NREL has assembled a list of U.S. retail electricity tariffs and their associated demand charge rates for the Commercial and Industrial sectors. The data was obtained from the Utility Rate Database. Keep the following information in mind when interpreting the data: (1) These data were interpreted and transcribed manually from utility tariff sheets, which are often complex. It is a certainty that these data contain errors, and therefore should only be used as a reference. Actual utility tariff sheets should be consulted if an action requires this type of data. (2) These data only contains tariffs that were entered into the Utility Rate Database. Since not all tariffs are designed in a format that can be entered into the Database, this list is incomplete - it does not contain all tariffs in the United States. (3) These data may have changed since this list was developed (4) Many of the underlying tariffs have additional restrictions or requirements that are not represented here. For example, they may only be available to the agricultural sector or closed to new customers. (5) If there are multiple demand charge elements in a given tariff, the maximum demand charge is the sum of each of the elements at any point in time. Where tiers were present, the highest rate tier was assumed. The value is a maximum for the year, and may be significantly different from demand charge rates at other times in the year. This dataset is the current 2024 Harmonized Tariff Schedule plus all revisions for the current year. It provides the applicable tariff rates and statistical categories for all merchandise imported into the United States; it is based on the international Harmonized System, the global system of nomenclature that is used to describe most world trade in goods.
This dataset shows active grain (corn, soybeans, wheat, and sorghum) rail tariff rates to the Mexico border for a number of U.S. locations, border crossings, car types, and shipment sizes for BNSF, Union Pacific, and Kansas City Southern (KCS). These rates are Rule 11 rates, where a through rate from a U.S. origin to a Mexico destination is divided into a rate from a U.S. origin to the border and a rate from the border to a Mexico destination. The U.S. railroads began reporting only Rule 11 rates to the border in January 2022 following the implementation of a VAT tax on the Mexican portion of the rail shipment. This dataset only contains rates on the U.S. to-the-border portion of the shipment.
The rates are collected from the BNSF, UP, and KCS websites. The railroads do not update the tariffs on defined interval, but do typically have at least one update a year before that commodity's harvest season. The tariff rates are joined to fuel surcharges that are updated monthly. A row in the dataset represents the active tariff rate for that shipment type (route, size, etc.) and the fuel surcharge for that railroad in a particular month. In the case where a tariff rate is changed mid-month, the row is an average of any rates that were active during that month.
Fuel surcharges are published by the railroads on a monthly, per-mile basis and are collected separately from the tariff documents (See USDA's fuel surcharge data at https://agtransport.usda.gov/d/f883-g4tq). To compute a per car fuel surcharge, the U.S. origin to the border rail route distance is approximated using the Department of Transportation's National Rail Network Lines (NARL) dataset and a shortest-path computation.
KCS is now CPKC, but KCS rates are still reported separately at https://web.kcsouthern.com/AgricultureTariff/Default.aspx.
The dataset is intended to capture most of the published tariffs for corn, soybean, and wheat shipments to Mexico. However, some routes and tariff updates may not be included.

The uncertainty stemming from fluctuating trade policies causes companies to hesitate in committing to large-scale investments in cybersecurity. However, tariffs can also stimulate domestic manufacturing and software development, potentially reducing dependency on foreign suppliers and enhancing economic resilience. Over time, this shift could lead to increased innovation and job creation within local markets, balancing out short-term economic strains.
The FTA Tariff Rates API provides data about each country with whom the United States has a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). When the U.S. enters into an FTA with a foreign government, it negotiates lower tariff rates with that government for a wide variety of products. A tariff is a tax that a company must pay a foreign country when shipping a product to that country. Typically the FTA tariffs rates decline over several years.
Quarterly sub-regional statistics show the number of installations and total installed capacity by technology type in England, Scotland and Wales at the end the latest quarter that have been confirmed on the Central Feed-in Tariff Register.
Following the closure of the Feed-in-Tariff scheme in March 2019, the release published in January 2020 will be the final release of this publication.

Weekly barge rates in future months for downbound freight originating from seven locations along the Mississippi River System. This dataset shows rates for transactions three months in the future.
The U.S. Inland Waterway System utilizes a percent-of-tariff system to establish barge freight rates. The tariffs were originally from the Bulk Grain and Grain Products Freight Tariff No. 7, which were issued by the Waterways Freight Bureau (WFB) of the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC). In 1976, the United States Department of Justice entered into an agreement with the ICC and made Tariff No. 7 no longer applicable. Today, the WFB no longer exists, and the ICC has become the Surface Transportation Board, which does not have jurisdiction over barge rates on the inland waterways. However, the barge industry continues to use the tariffs as benchmarks for rate units.
Each city on the river has its own benchmark, with the northern most cities having the highest benchmarks. They are as follows: Twin Cities = 619; Mid-Mississippi = 532; St. Louis = 399; Illinois = 464; Cincinnati = 469; Lower Ohio = 446; and Cairo-Memphis = 314.
To calculate the rate in dollars per ton, multiply the percent of tariff rate by the 1976 benchmark and divide by 100: (Rate * 1976 tariff benchmark rate per ton)/100. As an example, a 271 percent tariff for a St. Louis grain barge would equal 271 percent of the St. Louis benchmark rate of $3.99, or $10.81 per ton.
