    Introducing the Indeed Job Postings Index

    Hiring Lab's Job Postings Tracker is being re-released as the Indeed Job Postings Index. By Chris Glynn

    Indeed Hiring Lab is re-releasing our Job Postings Tracker as the Indeed Job Postings Index, a daily measure of labor market activity that is updated and will continue to be released weekly. Covering seven national markets in the US, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia, the Indeed Job Postings Index meets one of Hiring Lab’s primary goals: produce high quality and high frequency labor market metrics using Indeed’s proprietary data.

    The primary difference between the Indeed Job Postings Index and the legacy Job Postings Tracker is the level. The Indeed Job Postings Index is set to 100 on February 1, 2020, and this effectively provides a uniform level shift of 100 to the existing Job Postings Tracker across all time points.The Job Postings Tracker measured the percent change in postings from February 1st, 2020. For example, if the Job Postings Tracker were 40%, the corresponding Indeed Job Postings Index on the same date would be 140. Additionally, we are now including year-over-year and month-over-month percent changes in the Indeed Job Postings Index as part of our data portal on hiringlab.org/data and on our GitHub page. Month-over-month changes are calculated as 28 day (4 week) differences to control for day of week.

    As Covid-19 fades from the global labor market discussion, moving to an index better reflects current economic conditions. The Indeed Job Postings Index allows us to compare job postings more naturally across flexible date ranges as opposed to comparing to the pre-pandemic baseline. It also places Indeed’s job postings metric in a broader class of macroeconomic indexes such as the Case Shiller Index that measures house price appreciation and the Consumer Price Index that measures inflation.

    Data Schema Each market covered by a Hiring Lab economist has a folder in this repo. Each folder contains the following files:

    aggregate_job_postings_{country_code}.csv This file contains the % change in seasonally-adjusted postings since February 1, 2020 for total job postings and new jobs postings (on Indeed for 7 days or fewer) for that market, as well as non-seasonally adjusted postings since February 1, 2020 for total job postings.

    job_postings_by_sector_{country_code}.csv This file contains the % change in seasonally-adjusted postings since February 1, 2020 for occupational sectors for that market. We do not share sectoral data for Ireland.

    For certain markets, we also share subnational job postings trends. In the United States, we provide:

    metro_job_postings_us.csv This file contains the % change in seasonally-adjusted postings since February 1, 2020 for total job postings in US metropolitan areas with a population of at least 500,000 people.

    state_job_postings_us.csv This file contains the % change in seasonally-adjusted postings since February 1, 2020 for total job postings in the US states and the District of Columbia.

    provincial_postings_ca.csv This file contains the % change in seasonally-adjusted postings since February 1, 2020 for total job postings in each Canadian provinces. In the United Kingdom, we provide:

                  After several cryptic posts published by the account, World Record Egg revealed itself to be a part of a mental health campaign aimed at the pressures of social media use.

                  As of April 2024, the official Instagram account @instagram had the most followers of any account on the platform, with 672 million followers. Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo (@cristiano) was the most followed individual with 628 million followers, while Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) was the most followed woman on the platform with 429 million. Additionally, Inter Miami CF striker Lionel Messi (@leomessi) had a total of 502 million. Celebrities such as The Rock, Kylie Jenner, and Ariana Grande all had over 380 million followers each.

                  In the United States, the leading content category of Instagram influencers was lifestyle, with 15.25 percent of influencers creating lifestyle content in 2021.     This indicator reports on the SSC Enterprise IT security services that are part of the SSC service catalogue. This indicator is an aggregation of myKEY, Secure Remote Access and External Credential Management. These services best represent CITS’ ability to secure IT infrastructure. Calculation / formula: Numerator: Total time (# hours, minutes, and seconds) the infrastructure security services are available (i.e. Up-Time) in assessment period (day, week, month, and year) multiplied by the number of services, and multiplied by the number of applicable customer departments. Denominator: Total time (# hours, minutes and seconds) in assessment period (day, week, month, and year) multiplied by the number of services, and multiplied by the number of applicable customer departments. Trend should be interpreted such that a higher % represents progress toward target. Once target has been reach, additional % represents excellence. The % of availability, exclude the maintenance windows. For example: If there were a 1-day outage of an IS Service (e.g. myKey), the Up-Time would be: 24 hrs/day x30 days/month x1 service x 40 customers = 28800 hours (per month), which is the Numerator The Total time for the reporting period (in this case, monthly) is: 24 hrs/day x31 days/month x1 service x 40 customers = 29760 hours, which is the Denominator.     This data series represents the volumetric soil moisture (percent saturated soil) for the surface layer (<5 cm). The data is created daily and is averaged for the ISO standard week and month. The datais produced from passive microwave satellite data collected by the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite and converted to soil moisture using version 5.51 of the SMOS soil moisture processor. The data are produced by the European Space Agency and obtained under a Category 1 proposal for Level 2 soil moisture data. The data are gridded to a resolution of 0.25 degrees.     The methodology used to count COVID-19 deaths has changed to exclude deaths not caused by COVID. This impacts data captured in the columns “Deaths”, “Deaths_Data_Cleaning” and “newly_reported_deaths” starting with data for March 11, 2022. A new column has been added to the file “Deaths_New_Methodology” which represents the methodological change.

    The method used to count COVID-19 deaths has changed, effective December 1, 2022. Prior to December 1, 2022, deaths were counted based on the date the death was updated in the public health unit’s system. Going forward, deaths are counted on the date they occurred.

    On November 30, 2023 the count of COVID-19 deaths was updated to include missing historical deaths from January 15, 2020 to March 31, 2023. A small number of COVID deaths (less than 20) do not have recorded death date and will be excluded from this file.

    CCM is a dynamic disease reporting system which allows ongoing update to data previously entered. As a result, data extracted from CCM represents a snapshot at the time of extraction and may differ from previous or subsequent results. Public Health Units continually clean up COVID-19 data, correcting for missing or overcounted cases and deaths. These corrections can result in data spikes and current totals being different from previously reported cases and deaths. Observed trends over time should be interpreted with caution for the most recent period due to reporting and/or data entry lags.

    Description

    Data collected between 2005 to 2007, 3% of sample collected in 2005, 51% in 2006 and 46% in 2007. This dataset contains a compilation of data collected from different sources. VOG 06/ VOG 08 (Value of Goods) : The data is derived from the information collected in the 2006 Ontario Commercial Vehicle Survey. This survey is a roadside intercept survey of truck drivers, which collects information about the trip, commodity and the vehicle. The survey primarily captures intercity trucking activity and under-represents truck flows in urban areas. The value of goods provided in this table is derived from the Commercial Vehicle Survey, but factored up to represent the overall trucking activity on the network segment for 2006 and 2008. **AADTT 2006 and ****AADTT** 2008: The data is derived from the Ministry of Transportation's (MTO) inventory of annual traffic data for the Provincial Highways. The commercial volumes are first calculated using the AADT and the Commercial Percentage values for each traffic segment. These values are then adjusted to remove variations between segments caused by fluctuations in AADT. The volume given for each direction is one-half of the total value. MTO does not maintain volume by direction. For freeway segments with core/collector configuration, the total volume is divided into four equal portions and assigned to each stream. **Hourly Truck Volumes ( WD00-23 and WN00-23): ** These fields contain estimates of average hourly volumes for a typical weekday and weekend day. The estimates are based on observed hourly distribution at more than 100 directional Commercial Vehicle Survey sites across the province, AADTT and other information.     Every day, schools, child care centres and licensed home child care agencies report to the Ministry of Education on children, students and staff that have positive cases of COVID-19. If there is a discrepancy between numbers reported here and those reported publicly by a Public Health Unit, please consider the number reported by the Public Health Unit to be the most up-to-date. Schools and school boards report when a school is closed to the Ministry of Education. Data is current as of 2:00 pm the previous day. This dataset is subject to change.     EvasteriasPisasterSurvey_Table_2_Fig_1_data

    Long term Evasterias and Pisaster population data in Burrard Inlet, British Columbia, Canada. Percent of maximum abundance (denoted as “percent_max”) for each species and proportion of each species within the sea star community (denoted as “prop_sp”), during winter surveys from 2008 to 2017. Each survey’s percent of maximum abundance was calculated using the maximum abundance recorded for that site during our surveys from 2008 to 2017. Data are split into “pre” and “post” estimated time of outbreak of wasting disease, n = 9 surveys for years before wasting and n = 40 surveys for years after wasting. Surveys are from 5 sites, and estimates of area surveyed at each site are provided. Salinity is opportunistically reported.

    Breakdown of disease progression in Evasterias and Pisaster over 28 days, in terms of number of asymptomatic (“num_healthy”) and the number of surviving individuals remaining in a tank “(num_alive”), after experimental exposure to conspecifics with signs of SSWD. “Day” indicates the duration of experiment and “tank” indicates the replicate tanks of initially uninfected sea stars. “Census_sick” and “census_dead” indicates a binary assignment of 0 or 1, where 0 denotes more than half the population of 5 sea stars is healthy/alive and 1 denotes more than half the population is sick/dead. See supplement S1.2 for more details on the methods of the experiments.

    Mean percent change in wet weight (grams) across competition treatments, from all three experiment rounds. Competition treatments are labeled by the number of sea stars held in a tank, and of what species. Evasterias is abbreviated with “Eva” and Pisaster is abbreviated with “Pi”. The interspecific treatment for Evasterias response was “Eva (2 Eva + 2 Pi)” and for Pisaster response was “Pi (2 Eva + 2 Pi)”. Each treatment was replicated three times per experiment (denoted as “tank” number), with the exception of experiment three, where the interspecific treatment was replicated four times, for a total of 9 replications and 10 replications respectively across all three experiments. Sample size varied per treatment as some sea stars developed signs of SSWD and thus were removed and replaced with uninfected sea stars. Replacement sea star weights were not included in the data set or growth analysis. For more details on the methods see supplement section S1.3.

Please review the daily epidemiologic summaries for information on variables, methodology, and technical considerations. ##Cumulative Deaths The methodology used to count COVID-19 deaths has changed to exclude deaths not caused by COVID. This impacts data captured in the columns “Deaths”, “Deaths_Data_Cleaning” and “newly_reported_deaths” starting with data for March 11, 2022. A new column has been added to the file “Deaths_New_Methodology” which represents the methodological change. The method used to count COVID-19 deaths has changed, effective December 1, 2022. Prior to December 1, 2022, deaths were counted based on the date the death was updated in the public health unit’s system. Going forward, deaths are counted on the date they occurred. On November 30, 2023 the count of COVID-19 deaths was updated to include missing historical deaths from January 15, 2020 to March 31, 2023. A small number of COVID deaths (less than 20) do not have recorded death date and will be excluded from this file. CCM is a dynamic disease reporting system which allows ongoing update to data previously entered. As a result, data extracted from CCM represents a snapshot at the time of extraction and may differ from previous or subsequent results. Public Health Units continually clean up COVID-19 data, correcting for missing or overcounted cases and deaths. These corrections can result in data spikes and current totals being different from previously reported cases and deaths.
