    Description

This dataset contains two tables: creative_stats and removed_creative_stats. The creative_stats table contains information about advertisers that served ads in the European Economic Area or Turkey: their legal name, verification status, disclosed name, and location. It also includes ad specific information: impression ranges per region (including aggregate impressions for the European Economic Area), first shown and last shown dates, which criteria were used in audience selection, the format of the ad, the ad topic and whether the ad is funded by Google Ad Grants program. A link to the ad in the Google Ads Transparency Center is also provided. The removed_creative_stats table contains information about ads that served in the European Economic Area that Google removed: where and why they were removed and per-region information on when they served. The removed_creative_stats table also contains a link to the Google Ads Transparency Center for the removed ad. Data for both tables updates periodically and may be delayed from what appears on the Google Ads Transparency Center website. Description

    Context

I wanted to combine some interests of mine so I started to create this dataset of the job ads published in the Glasgow Herald newspaper (available on Google Newspapers). I believe this dataset, when completed, will provide some insight into the 19th century's business world. What kind of work was worth advertising in newspapers, which sectors were popular, what were employers' preferences on gender and age?

    Content

So far, only some of the job ads from 1851 January are listed. The goal is to list the first 100 job ads per month, 2 months per year (January and July), and 1 year per decade (1851 and 1861, and so on).

I screenshot Google Newspaper scans and then use the Tesseract OCR engine to get the text. I clean the messy text and then categorize the job ads.

    Acknowledgements

I want to thank my college instructors for the encouragement and the advice they provided.

    Problems

My approach has many problems and I need help to make this dataset better. Since they had limited space and budget, the job ads are way shorter than the current trends of bloated job listings. This creates a need for interpretations.

For the Age for example, should I interpret words like "Young man, young boy, youth" as a specification of age? If so, what ages do they refer to?

The Sex category is harder for someone like me whose first language isn't English. If the job ad doesn't specify gender ("a person wanted") but gendered pronouns, should I list them as "NotSpecified" or as "Male/Female"? What about job titles with "man" in them, do they refer to gender or are they just default names that aren't gender-specific?

I also need suggestions for Education and Experience categories too; what should I consider as a requirement? Lastly, I may need suggestions for additional categories.
