Geoscape G-NAF is the geocoded address database for Australian businesses and governments. It’s the trusted source of geocoded address data for Australia with over 50 million contributed addresses distilled into 15.4 million G-NAF addresses. It is built and maintained by Geoscape Australia using independently examined and validated government data.
From 22 August 2022, Geoscape Australia is making G-NAF available in an additional simplified table format. G-NAF Core makes accessing geocoded addresses easier by utilising less technical effort.
G-NAF Core will be updated on a quarterly basis along with G-NAF.

With more than 15 million Australian physical address record, G-NAF is one of the most ubiquitous and powerful spatial datasets. The records include geocodes, which are latitude and longitude map coordinates. G-NAF does not contain personal information or details relating to individuals.
Updated versions of G-NAF are published on a quarterly basis. Previous versions are available here
Users have the option to download datasets with feature coordinates referencing either GDA94 or GDA2020 datums.
Changes in the November 2025 release
Nationally, the November 2025 update of G-NAF shows an increase of 32,773 addresses overall (0.21%). The total number of addresses in G-NAF now stands at 15,827,416 of which 14,983,358 or 94.67% are principal.
There is one new locality for the November 2025 Release of G-NAF, the locality of Southwark in South Australia.

G-NAF is a complex and large dataset (approximately 5GB unpacked), consisting of multiple tables that will need to be joined prior to use. Data fields requiring description are detailed below.
MAPPED LOCATION: Contains the address, city, state and latitude/longitude coordinates of the facility. In instances where the facility address is a range, the lower number (the value in the “Street Number From” column) is used. For example, for the range address 1000-1005 S Wabash Ave, the Mapped Location would be 1000 S Wabash Ave. The latitude/longitude coordinate is determined through the Chicago Open Data Portal’s geocoding process. Addresses that fail to geocode are assigned the coordinates 41.88415000022252°, -87.63241000012124°.This coordinate is located approximately just south of the intersection of W Randolph and N LaSalle.
COMPLAINTS: A ‘Y’ indicates that one or more records exist in the CDPH Environmental Complaints dataset.
NESHAPS & DEMOLITON NOTICES: A ‘Y’ indicates that one or more records exist in the CDPH Asbestos and Demolition Notification dataset.

TwitterAddress Lookup Service is a web service providing lookup function on Hong Kong address records in both Chinese and English aggregated from various Government Bureaux/Departments. This web service allows data consumers to look up address records in machine-readable format (XML or JSON) using address element information. It aims to facilitate development of applications with the need to capture Hong Kong address information more efficiently and accurately. The Address Lookup Service provides formatted addresses of the premises in Hong Kong, including private and public housing estates, commercial and industrial buildings, government buildings and offices, markets and shopping centers; and common facilities such as recreation and sports centres. Some addresses provided are representing a complex of buildings, such as schools or universities. Most of the addresses in Address Lookup Service are available in 2-Dimensional format which typically includes up to street name, building number and building name. 3-Dimensional formatted addresses, such as addresses include flat number and floor number, they are only available for public housing estates. For more details, please refer the Data Dictionary. This service also includes unofficial descriptions of buildings which are long established addresses in rural areas of the New Territories and are generally accepted by the public. The choice of name for a building is a matter for the owner, and at present there is no controlling legislation. The inclusion of a building name in this service confers no proprietary right to it or any part of it.

The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Face refers to the areal (polygon) topological primitives that make up MTDB. A face is bounded by one or more edges; its boundary includes only the edges that separate it from other faces, not any interior edges contained within the area of the face. The Topological Faces Shapefile contains the attributes of each topological primitive face. Each face has a unique topological face identifier (TFID) value. Each face in the shapefile includes the key geographic area codes for all geographic areas for which the Census Bureau tabulates data for both the 2020 Census and the annual estimates and surveys. The geometries of each of these geographic areas can then be built by dissolving the face geometries on the appropriate key geographic area codes in the Topological Faces Shapefile.

Use of the G-NAF downloaded from data.gov.au is subject to the End User Licence Agreement (EULA)
The EULA terms are based on the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0). However, an important restriction relating to the use of the open G-NAF for the sending of mail has been added.
The open G-NAF data must not be used for the generation of an address or the compilation of an address for the sending of mail unless the user has verified that each address to be used for the sending of mail is capable of receiving mail by reference to a secondary source of information. Further information on this use restriction is available here.
End users must only use the data in ways that are consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles issued under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

G-NAF is a complex and large dataset (approximately 5GB unpacked), consisting of multiple tables that will need to be joined prior to use. The dataset is primarily designed for application developers and large-scale spatial integration. Users are advised to read the technical documentation, including product change notices and the individual product descriptions before downloading and using the product. A quick reference guide on unpacking the G-NAF is also available.
