The Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) provides a right of access to documents held by Australian Government agencies and ministers. Sometimes a charge may apply to an FOI request, and review mechanisms allow people to appeal decisions on an FOI request if they disagree.\r \r The data below shows the number of requests received since 1982-83 and the amount of charges notified and collected. This data is sourced from data provided to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) and previous FOI annual reports prepared each year from 1983 onwards. The 1982-83 data covers only seven months (December 1982 to June 1983), and the data about requests for personal information compared to other requests has only been collected from 2000-01 onwards.\r \r Agencies and ministers are also required to provide to the OAIC quarterly and annual statistical returns on FOI activity, review numbers and estimated costs. The returns data since 2011-12 is available here in CSV format and in a summary Excel spreadsheet. \r \r In these files a column identified by either 'P' or 'personal' refers to FOI requests for predominantly personal information in relation to the criteria in row 1 above that heading. Similarly the adjacent column to the right identified by 'O' or 'other’ refers to all other FOI requests for that particular criteria. The column immediately adjacent, to the right of 'O' headed by 'T', contains the total of the 'P' and 'O' columns. \r \r The Excel is optimised for readability and contains additional processing (such as applying a salary multiplier to agency estimated staff time data). Finally, the original survey questions for each year are included: each of the columns in the CSVs can be linked to a survey question asked that year.

This paper evaluates a method of generating a unique dataset that has been underused—a Freedom of Information (FOI) request. The UK’s FOI Act came into force in 2005, allowing the public to make requests of publicly held data. We set out to understand the determinants of the quality responses to FOI requests. We also explain how requests can be made and provide suggestions to construct effective data-driven requests. We applied for data on hate crime from all police forces and on uptake of maternity leave from all universities. We find that observable characteristics of the local area, police force and universities neither determine whether the request was fulfilled, nor the speed of response, suggesting that the data from these FOI requests are representative of the institutions from which they were requested.

The Freedom of Information Act 1982 provides a right of access to documents held by agencies and ministers. Sometimes a charge may apply to an FOI request, and review mechanisms allow people to appeal decisions on an FOI request if they disagree.
The data below shows the number of requests received from 1982 to 2016 and the amount of charges notified and collected. This data is sourced from previous FOI annual reports prepared each year from 1983 onwards. Please note that the 1982-83 data covers only seven months (December 1982 to June 1983), and the data about requests for personal information compared to other requests has only been collected from 2000-01 onwards.
Agencies and ministers are also required to provide quarterly and annual ‘statistical returns’ on FOI activity, review numbers and estimated costs. The returns data from 2011-12 to 2015-16 is also available in CSV format below. In the statistical returns CSVs, ‘personal request’ refers to an FOI request for a document containing personal information and ‘other request’ to an FOI request for any other document.
There are also Microsoft Excel versions of the statistical returns optimised for readability and containing additional processing (such as applying a salary multiplier to agency estimated staff time data). Finally, the original survey questions for each year are included: each of the columns in the CSVs can be linked to a survey question asked that year.

I am seeking access to several fields included in that system: 1. the request text (if this is not available, a summary of the request) 2. the date it was received 3. the date it was completed 4. whether access was granted in full or in part, and 5. how many pages were released? I am only seeking access to general records requests, not personal record requests.

The FOIA Management System has approximately 110 FHWA Headquarters and Field users, and is also used by FMCSA, PHMSA, OST, FTA, OIG, and NHTSA, with separate reimbursable agreements in place for each Operating Administration.

Since 1967, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) has provided the public the right to request access to records from any federal agency. It is often described as the law that keeps citizens in the know about their government. Federal agencies are required to disclose any information requested under the FOIA unless it falls under one of nine exemptions which protect interests such as personal privacy, national security, and law enforcement. As Congress, the President, and the Supreme Court have all recognized, the Act is a vital part of our democracy.
A FOIA request can be made for any agency record. You can also specify the format in which you wish to receive the records (for example, printed or electronic form). The Act does not require agencies to create new records or to conduct research, analyze data, or answer questions when responding to requests. Each federal agency handles its own records in response to requests. There are currently one hundred agencies subject to the FOIA with several hundred offices that process FOIA requests.
Annual Freedom of Information Act Reports are submitted to Congress and published by FOIA.gov to promote agency accountability for the administration of the Act.

These are requests for particular government dataset to be made public (and ideally open). The requests are made by anyone, using a form at data.gov.uk. Only 'public' data requests are included in the data published here. Confidential requests can also be made, e.g. for commercial confidentiality. There are two versions of the data: * v1 - missing a couple of fields. Live data (always up to date). * v2 - contains all the public fields. Produced nightly. System fields: nid, url, created, updated. Requester fields: title submitted_by data_themes status description suggested_use suggested_use_detail benefits_overview. Government response: publisher dataset_link field_review_notes. Policy for requests: * a "data request" is a request for government to publish a dataset that is not yet published on data.gov.uk. Requests associated with specific datasets already on data.gov.uk should instead be made in a comment on the particular dataset page. * only central government and its agencies are available in these requests. For others organizations, contact them directly and consider making an FOI request. * your personal data should not be requested with this method - contact the relevant organization directly. each request will be directed to the relevant department by the Cabinet Office team. (These have been shown on the form since late 2015, and before that the policy varied) Data requests on file date back to September 2012.

TwitterThere is a requirement that public authorities, like Ofsted, must publish updated versions of datasets which are disclosed as a result of Freedom of Information requests.
Some information which is requested is exempt from disclosure to the public under the Freedom of Information Act; it is therefore not appropriate for this information to be made available. Examples of information which it is not appropriate to make available includes the locations of women’s refuges, some military bases and all children’s homes and the personal data of providers and staff. Ofsted also considers that the names and addresses of registered childminders are their personal data which it is not appropriate to make publicly available unless those individuals have given their explicit consent to do so. This information has therefore not been included in the datasets.
Data for both childcare and childminders are included in the excel file.
