    Description

These data were created as part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office for Coastal Management's efforts to create an online mapping viewer called the Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer. It depicts potential sea level rise and its associated impacts on the nation's coastal areas. The purpose of the mapping viewer is to provide coastal managers and scientists with a preliminary look at sea level rise and coastal flooding impacts. The viewer is a screening-level tool that uses nationally consistent data sets and analyses. Data and maps provided can be used at several scales to help gauge trends and prioritize actions for different scenarios. The Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer may be accessed at: https://coast.noaa.gov/slr. This metadata record describes the Maryland, West digital elevation model (DEM), which is a part of a series of DEMs produced for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office for Coastal Management's Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer described above. This DEM includes the best available lidar known to exist at the time of DEM creation that met project specifications. This DEM includes data for Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Howard, and Prince George's Counties and Baltimore City. The DEM was produced from the following lidar data sets: 1. 2011 Anne Arundel County, MD Lidar 2. 2015 Sandy Supplemental MD/PA QL2 Lidar (Baltimore City) 3. 2015 Baltimore County, MD Lidar 4. 2011 Calvert County, MD Lidar 5. 2011 Howard County, MD Lidar 6. 2014 USGS Hurricane Sandy Supplemental for National Capital Region (NCR) The DEM is referenced vertically to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88, Geoid12B) with vertical units of meters and horizontally to the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). The resolution of the DEM is approximately 3 meters.

    Description

This EnviroAtlas dataset demonstrates the effect of changes in pollution concentration on local populations in 1648 block groups in Baltimore, Maryland. The US EPA's Environmental Benefits Mapping and Analysis Program (BenMAP) was used to estimate the incidence of adverse health effects (i.e., mortality and morbidity) and associated monetary value that result from changes in pollution concentrations for Baltimore city, and Baltimore, Anne Arundel, and Howard Counties Maryland. Incidence and value estimates for the block groups are calculated using i-Tree models (www.itreetools.org), local weather data, pollution data, and U.S. Census derived population data. This dataset was produced by the USDA Forest Service with support from The Davey Tree Expert Company to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. EnviroAtlas (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas) allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the contiguous United States. The dataset is available as downloadable data (https://edg.epa.gov/data/Public/ORD/EnviroAtlas) or as an EnviroAtlas map service. Additional descriptive information about each attribute in this dataset can be found in its associated EnviroAtlas Fact Sheet (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas/enviroatlas-fact-sheets).

This is the 2020 vintage of the 2020 TIGER/Line county boundary. It includes Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Carroll County, Harford County, Howard County, and Queen Anne's County. Note this boundary is a new vintage of the TIGER file but is otherwise identical the the Census 2010 county boundary.Date: 1/21/2021 Update: Update: Irregular. While Census boundaries are updated every 10 years, the Census Bureau makes annual corrections to the geographies as needed. These updates are usually minor and BMC reviews them every few years.Source: Census TIGER/Line. The purpose of the mapping viewer is to provide coastal managers and scientists with a preliminary look at sea level rise (slr) and coastal flooding impacts. The viewer is a screening-level tool that uses nationally consistent data sets and analyses. Data and maps provided can be used at several scales to help gauge trends and prioritize actions for different scenarios. The Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer may be accessed at: http://www.coast.noaa.gov/slr This digital elevation model (DEM) is a part of a series of DEMs produced for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office for Coastal Management's Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer described above. The DEM created for this project was developed using the NOAA National Weather Service's Weather Forecast Office (WFO) boundaries. This DEM includes the best available lidar data known to exist at the time of DEM creation that met project specifications, for Maryland, west of the Chesapeake Bay. This DEM falls in the Baltimore/Washington (LWX) WFO. The DEM covers the following Maryland counties: Baltimore City (portion), Howard (portion), Anne Arundel, Charles, and St. Mary's. This DEM does not include the counties that are also in the LWX WFO of Baltimore, Calvert, and Harford. This is because the lidar data for these counties are licensed and unavailable for distribution to the general public. As such, the extent of this DEM is different than that of the DEM used by the NOAA Office for Coastal Management in creating the inundation data seen in the Sea Level Rise and Coastal Impacts Viewer (www.coast.noaa.gov/slr/viewer). This DEM is derived from multiple lidar datasets furnished by NOAA, the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). A list of lidar data sources can be found in the Process Lineage. Hydrographic breaklines were delineated using lidar intensity imagery generated from the lidar. The DEM is hydro flattened such that water elevations are less than or equal to 0 meters. The DEM is referenced vertically to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) with vertical units of meters and horizontally to the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). The resolution of the DEM is approximately 10 meters.
