    Description

    description: USGS Imagery Only is a tile cache base map of orthoimagery in The National Map visible to the 1:18,000 scale. Orthoimagery data are typically high resolution images that combine the visual attributes of an aerial photograph with the spatial accuracy and reliability of a planimetric map. USGS digital orthoimage resolution may vary from 6 inches to 1 meter. In the former resolution, every pixel in an orthoimage covers a six inch square of the earth's surface, while in the latter resolution, one meter square is represented by each pixel. Blue Marble: Next Generation source is displayed at small to medium scales. However, the majority of the imagery service source is from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) for the conterminous United States. The data is 1-meter pixel resolution with "leaf-on". Collection of NAIP imagery is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency (FSA). In areas where NAIP data is not available, other imagery may be acquired through partnerships by the USGS. The National Map program is working on acquisition of high resolution orthoimagery (HRO) for Alaska and Hawaii. Most of the new Alaska imagery data will not be available in this service due to license restrictions. The National Map viewer allows free downloads of public domain, 1-meter resolution orthoimagery in JPEG 2000 (jp2) format for the conterminous United States, with many urban areas and other locations at 1-foot (or better) resolution also in JPEG 2000 (jp2) format.     The Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) system is a core EOSDIS component which provides a scalable, responsive, highly available, and community standards based set of imagery services. These services are designed with the goal of advancing user interactions with EOSDIS’ inter-disciplinary data through enhanced visual representation and discovery.The GIBS imagery archive includes approximately 1000 imagery products representing visualized science data from the NASA Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS). Each imagery product is generated at the native resolution of the source data to provide "full resolution" visualizations of a science parameter. GIBS works closely with the science teams to identify the appropriate data range and color mappings, where appropriate, to provide the best quality imagery to the Earth science community. Many GIBS imagery products are generated by the EOSDIS LANCE near real-time processing system resulting in imagery available in GIBS within 3.5 hours of observation. These products and others may also extend from present to the beginning of the satellite mission. In addition, GIBS makes available supporting imagery layers such as data/no-data, water masks, orbit tracks, and graticules to improve imagery usage.The GIBS team is actively engaging the NASA EOSDIS Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) to add more imagery products and to extend their coverage throughout the life of the mission. The remainder of this page provides a structured view of the layers currently available within GIBS grouped by science discipline and science observation.     Mosaics are published as ArcGIS image serviceswhich circumvent the need to download or order data. GEO-IDS image services are different from standard web services as they provide access to the raw imagery data. This enhances user experiences by allowing for user driven dynamic area of interest image display enhancement, raw data querying through tools such as the ArcPro information tool, full geospatial analysis, and automation through scripting tools such as ArcPy.Image services are best accessed through the ArcGIS REST APIand REST endpoints (URL's). You can copy the OPS ArcGIS REST API link below into a web browser to gain access to a directory containing all OPS image services. Individual services can be added into ArcPro for display and analysis by using Add Data -> Add Data From Path and copying one of the image service ArcGIS REST endpoint below into the resultant text box. They can also be accessed by setting up an ArcGIS server connectionin ESRI software using the ArcGIS Image Server REST endpoint/URL. Services can also be accessed in open-source software. For example, in QGIS you can right click on the type of service you want to add in the browser pane (e.g., ArcGIS REST Server, WCS, WMS/WMTS) and copy and paste the appropriate URL below into the resultant popup window.     The Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) system is a core EOSDIS component which provides a scalable, responsive, highly available, and community standards based set of imagery services. These services are designed with the goal of advancing user interactions with EOSDIS’ inter-disciplinary data through enhanced visual representation and discovery.The GIBS imagery archive includes approximately 1000 imagery products representing visualized science data from the NASA Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS). Each imagery product is generated at the native resolution of the source data to provide "full resolution" visualizations of a science parameter. GIBS works closely with the science teams to identify the appropriate data range and color mappings, where appropriate, to provide the best quality imagery to the Earth science community. Many GIBS imagery products are generated by the EOSDIS LANCE near real-time processing system resulting in imagery available in GIBS within 3.5 hours of observation. These products and others may also extend from present to the beginning of the satellite mission. In addition, GIBS makes available supporting imagery layers such as data/no-data, water masks, orbit tracks, and graticules to improve imagery usage.The GIBS team is actively engaging the NASA EOSDIS Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) to add more imagery products and to extend their coverage throughout the life of the mission. The remainder of this page provides a structured view of the layers currently available within GIBS grouped by science discipline and science observation.
