    Description

This table has been discontinued due to a shift in the base year. The output indicator on construction reflects the volume development of the value added (basic prices) in the sector construction according to the Standard Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities 2008 (SIC 41, 42 and 43). Monthly figures of construction are made consistent with figures of quarterly accounts when these are available. Monthly figures are also corrected for price changes. When the last month of a quarter is published, the second estimate of quarterly accounts figures of the national accounts are not yet available. Therefore, figures of value added of construction in the table can differ from value added figures of national accounts. Subjects: Volume changes, compared to the same period of the previous year and volume index figures, base year 2015=100. Data available from January 2005 up and until December 2023. Changes as of 01 May 2024: The figures of December 2023 have been added and the figures of October 2023 up to and including November 2023 could have been adjusted and this table has been discontinued. Changes as of 18 July 2023: The yearly national accounts updates have been carried out and the figures of January 2020 up to and including April 2023 have been adjusted. The figures of May 2023 could been added. From now on the figures of 2020 are final. Status of the figures: Data from 2005 up to and including 2020 are final. Data from 2021 onwards are provisional. Since this table has been discontinued, the data will not be finalized. Changes as of 16 March 2021: The figures of January 2021 have been added and the figures of October up to and including December 2020 have been adjusted. From now on, we send the calendar and seasonally adjusted figures to Eurostat. The link to the relevant table can be found in section 3. Statistics Netherlands has carried out a revision of the national accounts in June of 2018. New statistical sources and estimation methods have been used during the revision. This table provides the data after revision. For further information see section 3. When are new figures released? No longer applicable. This table is succeeded by "Construction; value added, index 2021=100 and changes". See Section 3.

This table presents information about the developments in domestic turnover of the construction industry (SIC 2008 section F). The results are expressed in terms of indices with base year 2021 and by the percentual change of a period compared to the same period of the previous year. The data can be divided by a number of branches according to Statistics Netherlands' Standard Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities 2008 (SIC 2008) and by two size classes.

    Data available from January 2005.

Status of the figures: The figures of January until May 2025 are provisional and the figures from the preceding periods are definite.

Changes as of July 17, 2025: Figures of May 2025 have been added, the figures of April 2025 may have been adjusted.

When will new figures be published? Statistics Netherlands usually publishes the first results six to eight weeks after the end of the reporting period. Figures may be adjusted up to 75 days after the quarter as additional response becomes available. After this, the provisional figures will not be changed until they are made definitive. Five months after the reporting year, all delayed response is used to compile the definitive figures for all months in the reporting year. It is after this that the figures change from provisional to definitive.

Once the definitive figures have been published, Statistics Netherlands only adjusts them if significant corrections are necessary.

    Description

The production price index (PPI) for construction materials and components in the United States decreased slightly in 2024. Up until 2020, construction prices had been rising fairly steadily. However, in the years after that construction producer prices have been very unstable. Production price index A PPI of *** in 2022, indicates that the real-world price has risen by *** percent in comparison to the base year - 1982 in this case. Similarly, under the same baseline, the PPI for construction machinery and equipment has also risen steadily until 2018. Like all prices, there are regional differences within the United States. The PPI acts as a measurement for the average changes in prices that domestic producers receive for their output. In the United States, the PPI is one of the oldest continuous statistical datasets published by the government. Common construction materials Some building materials are essential to construction work, and the decision on which to use is important for the life and the endurance of the building. Materials such as cement, steel, and sand are essential to many construction projects. The production of cement is tightly linked to the demand that comes from the construction industry. The durability and potency of steel gives it an advantage over wood and concrete, providing buildings with a higher resistance but a cheaper price tag. Sand is commonly used in buildings, but it is especially common in roads that require stones of various grades and granulation.

    Description

This table contains figures on turnover and production developments in trade and services. The figures can be broken down by branch according to the Standard Business Classification (SBI 2008) of Statistics Netherlands. The development is shown as a percentage change compared to a previous period and by means of indices with the base year 2021 as the base year.

Turnover and production developments are published in two forms. First of all, as year-on-year developments in which growth is expressed relative to the same period in the previous year. These figures are presented uncorrected and calendar-corrected. The second form concerns period-on-period developments: month-on-month or quarter-on-quarter. Period-on-period developments are possible by applying seasonal adjustment.

At present, this table contains only seasonally and calendar-adjusted data relating to the monthly figures for the retail sector. For the other branches, the uncorrected monthly series only run back to January 2021, making corrections more difficult. The lack of sufficient historical data makes it difficult to identify consistent patterns and trends, which is crucial for accurate corrections. Some data may not be representative of all seasonal influences that occur over a longer period of time, which may lead to less reliable or even incorrect corrections. As the uncorrected monthly series become longer, more reliable corrections can be made. In spring 2025, the table will therefore be expanded to include seasonally and calendar-adjusted figures for the other branches, with retroactive effect from January 2021.

Data available from: January 2000 for branches within SBI 47 retail and the first quarter of 2005 for all other branches.

Status of figures: The 2024 figures are provisional, the remaining figures are final.

The figures for a calendar year shall become final not later than six months after the end of that calendar year. Due to fulfilled response, the figures can still change until then and the status of ‘provisional’ is maintained.

Changes as of 1 November 2024: Figures of the branches corresponding to SBI sections G, H, I, J, L, M, N and S have been added. These are figures for the period September for the retail sector and August for the other sectors. Figures for the third quarter of 2024 may have been revised.

In order to bring the results of these index series into line with current events, a so-called basic shift is carried out once every five years. In 2024, the publication of this table switched from the reference year 2015 to 2021 (2021=100) and the weighting factors were updated and based on the year 2021.

In this table, the data of 9 separate tables are combined. These tables can be found further down in this table explanatory note under ‘3. Links to relevant tables and articles’.

When will there be new figures? For monthly statistics, CBS publishes as a rule on the first working day of the third month after the end of the reporting month, figures for the retail sector are published on the first working day of the second month after the end of the reporting month. After publication of final results, CBS will only adjust the results if major adjustments and/or corrections are necessary.

    Description

The industrial production index shows the output and activity of the industry sector. It measures changes in the volume of output on a monthly basis. Data are compiled according to the Statistical classification of economic activities in the European Community, (NACE Rev. 2, Eurostat). Industrial production is compiled as a "fixed base year Laspeyres type volume-index". The current base year is 2021 (Index 2021 = 100). The index is presented in calendar and seasonally adjusted form. Growth rates with respect to the previous month (M/M-1) are calculated from calendar and seasonally adjusted figures while growth rates with respect to the same month of the previous year (M/M-12) are calculated from calendar adjusted figures.

    Description

This table contains figures on the volume development of value added at basic prices in the construction industry. According to the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC 2008) by Statistics Netherlands (CBS), the construction industry falls under SIC 41-43. The development is presented as a percentage change compared to the same period in the previous year and is represented using index numbers with 2021 as the base year. Data available from: January 2005. Status of the figures: The data is consistently aligned with the value added figures from quarterly accounts as soon as they become available. However, when the last month of a quarter is published, regular quarterly estimates from national accounts are not yet available. As a result, the value added figures for the construction industry in this table may differ from the value added figures reported by national accounts. The series is finalized up to 2020 and provisional from 2021 onward. For quarterly figures, it involves aligning with the results of both the first (‘flash’) estimate of the quarterly accounts, which is published 6 weeks after the end of a reporting quarter, and the second (‘regular’) estimate, which is published approximately 3 months after the end of a reporting quarter. Adjustments are made when a new monthly figure is added to the series. Changes as of 16-05-2025 The figures of March 2025 have been added. The figures of the most recent 4 months present in the data may have been modified. Changes as of 9-12-2024: A dimension for the branches is added and calendar- and seasonal adjusted figures are added. When will new figures be available? New figures are typically published approximately seven weeks after the end of the reporting period.

    Description

This table presents information about developments in domestic turnover of the construction industry (SIC 2008 section F). The data can be divided by a number of branches according to Statistics Netherlands' Standard Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities 2008 (SIC 2008) and by two size classes. The results are expressed in terms of indices with base year 2015. Changes on the same period in the previous year are also published. Data available from: January 2005. Status of the figures: The figures of 2023 are provisional and the figures from the preceding periods are definite. Changes as of November 16, 2023: Figures of September 2023 and the third quarter have been added. The figures of July and August 2023 may have been adjusted. When will new figures be published? Statistics Netherlands usually publishes the first results six to eight weeks after the reporting period. Up to 75 days after the quarter, figures may be adjusted as increased response becomes available. After that the figures will not be changed. Five months after the reporting year, all late response is used to compile the definite figures, for all months in the reporting year. Until that point, figures are provisional. After that, figures are definite. Once definite figures have been published, Statistics Netherlands only adjusts them if significant corrections are necessary.

    Description

The output price index of newly built dwellings, 2015=100, shows cost developments of residential buildings. These series is based on all types of dwellings. Building costs are the costs paid to the building contractor, and thus include general costs, profit and risk, but exclude the costs of building land and project developers and brokers. The data are received from the municipal administrations (the number of building licences granted).

Data available from: 1st quarter 2012 to 4th quarter 2023

Status of the figures: The data for 2023 is provisional. Since this table has been discontinued, the data is no longer finalized.

Changes as of November 11th 2024: This table has been discontinued. This table is followed by New dwellings; output price indices building costs 2021=100. See paragraph 3.

The index number series in this table use 2015 as the reference year (2015=100). To ensure that the results of the index series are more in line with current events, a so-called base shift is implemented once every five years. Due to the implementation of FRIBS (Framework Regulation Integrating Business Statistics) in 2021, this time the base shift is postponed by one year to 2021=100. The subsequent base shift will return to a regular year, namely 2025=100. Upon the publication of the reporting period of the 1st quarter of 2024, such a base shift will occur, and the reference year will be switched to 2021 (2021=100). The index series with the reference 2021=100 will be published in new StatLine tables. This table will be discontinued from that moment and will no longer be updated. However, it will remain available in the archive. The new tables for 2021=100 will commence with the reporting period of the 1st quarter of 2018.
