From 1994 onwards The consumer price index, which takes into account price trends of all goods and services, forms the basis of another index: the health index. This health index has been calculated since January 1994 (introduced by the Royal Decree of 24 December 1993). The value of this index is determined by removing a number of products from the consumer price index product basket, in particular alcoholic beverages (bought in a shop or consumed in a bar), tobacco products and motor fuels except for LPG. What is the purpose of the health index? The health index is used for the indexation of housing rents. The health index is defined in the Law of 23 April 2015 on employment promotion (Belgian Official Journal of 27 April 2015). The smoothed health index, also called smoothed index (the average value of the health indexes of the last 4 months) is used as a basis for the indexation of retirement pensions, social security benefits and some salaries and wages. Public wages and social benefits are indexed as soon as the smoothed index reaches a given value, called the central index. The smoothed index is also called moving average. In order to perform a 2% index jump (laid down in the Law of 23 April 2015 on employment promotion), the smoothed health index has been temporarily blocked at its value of March 2015 (100.66). The smoothed health index was then reduced by 2% from April 2015. When the reduced smoothed health index (also called the reference index) had increased again by 2% or in other words when it had exceeded the value of 100.66, the index was no longer blocked. It occurred in April 2016. Since April 2016 the smoothed health index is calculated in the same manner as the reference index and therefore corresponds to the arithmetical mean of the health indexes of the last 4 months multiplied by a factor of 0.98. The Health Index is an Experimental Statistic to measure a broad definition of health, in a way that can be tracked over time and compared between different areas. These data are the provisional results of the Health Index for upper-tier local authorities in England, 2015 to 2018, to illustrate the type of analysis the Health Index can enable.

Luxembourg, Sweden, and Switzerland lead the health sub-index in the Global Retirement Index in 2024, with scores of 93, 92, and 91 percent, respectively. Norway, Ireland, and Japan all follow behind. Switzerland tops the Retirement Index, an index that measures the quality and security for pensioners.

The Community Health and Equity Index was developed by Raimi + Associates to compare health conditions, vulnerabilities, and cumulative burdens across the City of Los Angeles. The Index standardizes demographic, socio-economic, health conditions, land use, transportation, food environment, crime, and pollution burden variables, and then averages them together, yielding a score on a scale of 0-100. Lower values indicate better community health.Variables used in the index include: Hardship Index, Life Expectancy, Health Variables (Heart Disease Mortality, Emergency Department Visits for Heart Attacks, Respiratory Disease Mortality, Diabetes Mortality, Stroke Mortality, Childhood Obesity, Percentage of Low Birth Weight Infants, Number of Emergency Department Visits for Asthma for Under 17 and 18+ age groups), Walkability Index, Complete Communities Index (amenities and establishments serving the community), Transportation Index, Modified Retail Food Environment Index, Crime Rate (Violent Crimes, Property Crimes), and Pollution Burden (Pollution Exposure, Environmental Effects).Variables were assigned weights and averaged together. The Case Mix Index (CMI) is the average relative DRG weight of a hospital’s inpatient discharges, calculated by summing the Medicare Severity-Diagnosis Related Group (MS-DRG) weight for each discharge and dividing the total by the number of discharges. The CMI reflects the diversity, clinical complexity, and resource needs of all the patients in the hospital. A higher CMI indicates a more complex and resource-intensive case load. Although the MS-DRG weights, provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), were designed for the Medicare population, they are applied here to all discharges regardless of payer. Note: It is not meaningful to add the CMI values together.

The Vegetation Health Index (VHI) illustrates the severity of drought based on the vegetation health and the influence of temperature on plant conditions. The VHI is a composite index and the elementary indicator used to compute the seasonal drought indicators in ASIS: Agricultural Stress Index (ASI), Drought Intensity and Weighted Mean Vegetation Health Index (Mean VHI).If the index is below 40, different levels of vegetation stress, losses of crop and pasture production might be expected; if the index is above 60 (favorable condition) plentiful production might be expected. VHI is very useful for an advanced prediction of crop losses.

The California Healthy Places Index 3.0 data file was acquired on 04/25/22 from the Public Health Institute on behalf of the Public Health Alliance of Southern California.According to the Public Health Institute, "The HPI tool evaluates the relationship between 23 identified key drivers of health and life expectancy at birth -- which can vary dramatically by neighborhood. Based on that analysis, it produces a score ranking from 1 to 99 that shows the relative impact of conditions in a selected area compared to all other such places in the state." This table contains data on the modified retail food environment index for California, its regions, counties, cities, towns, and census tracts. An adequate, nutritious diet is a necessity at all stages of life. Pregnant women and their developing babies, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults depend on adequate nutrition for optimum development and maintenance of health and functioning. Nutrition also plays a significant role in causing or preventing a number of illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease, some cancers, obesity, type-2 diabetes, and anemia. Peoples’ food choices and their likelihood of being overweight or obese are also influenced by their food environment: the foods available in their neighborhoods including stores, restaurants, schools, and worksites. The modified retail food environment index table is part of a series of indicators in the Healthy Communities Data and Indicators Project (HCI) of the Office of Health Equity. The goal of HCI is to enhance public health by providing data, a standardized set of statistical measures, and tools that a broad array of sectors can use for planning healthy communities and evaluating the impact of plans, projects, policy, and environmental changes on community health. The creation of healthy social, economic, and physical environments that promote healthy behaviors and healthy outcomes requires coordination and collaboration across multiple sectors, including transportation, housing, education, agriculture and others. Statistical metrics, or indicators, are needed to help local, regional, and state public health and partner agencies assess community environments and plan for healthy communities that optimize public health.
