    Description

ZCTAs are approximate area representations of U.S. Postal Service (USPS) 5-digit ZIP Code service areas that the Census Bureau creates using census blocks to present statistical data from censuses and surveys. The Census Bureau defines ZCTAs by allocating each block that contains addresses to a single ZIP Code tabulation area, usually to the ZCTA that reflects the most frequently occurring ZIP Code for the addresses within that block. Blocks that do not contain addresses but that are completely surrounded by a single ZIP Code tabulation area (enclaves) are assigned to the surrounding ZCTA; those surrounded by multiple ZCTAs will be added to a single ZCTA based on the longest shared border. The Census Bureau identifies ZCTAs using a 5-character code that represents the most frequently occurring USPS ZIP Code within that ZCTA. This code may contain leading zeros. Users should not use ZCTAs to identify the official USPS ZIP Code for mail delivery. The USPS makes periodic changes to ZIP Codes to support more efficient mail delivery. ZIP Codes that cover primarily nonresidential or post office box addresses may not have a corresponding ZCTA because the delineation process uses primarily residential addresses, resulting in a bias towards ZIP Codes used for city-style mail delivery.

    Description

U.S. ZIP Code Areas represents five-digit ZIP Code areas used by the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail more effectively. The first digit of a five-digit ZIP Code divides the United States into 10 large groups of states (or equivalent areas) numbered from 0 in the Northeast to 9 in the far West. Within these areas, each state is divided into an average of 10 smaller geographical areas, identified by the second and third digits. These digits, in conjunction with the first digit, represent a Sectional Center Facility (SCF) or a mail processing facility area. The fourth and fifth digits identify a post office, station, branch or local delivery area.

    Description

Tabular data representing library and library branch locations was downloaded from the Indiana State Library (https://www.in.gov/library/directory-of-indiana-libraries/pldirectory/). Two spreadsheets were downloaded from this site, PL-Mailing-Addresses.xls, and PL-Branch-Directory.xls. Each spreadsheet was separately geocoded by IGIO staff, and any unmatched addresses were manually placed. Both datasets were then combined using the "Merge" tool in ArcGIS Pro before publishing. Attributes include the library name, branch name (when applicable), full address (address, city, state, and ZIP code), street address, mailing address (when applicable), city, state, ZIP code, library director name, and date updated by the State Library. This layer's default symbology is the same symbol with a different size and color for libraries versus branches. Library locations are larger (12 pt size) and blue, and branches are smaller (10 pt size) and purple.

    Description

These boundaries represent U.S. Congress districts in Indiana, passed in October of 2021 after redistricting from the 2020 U.S. Census. Attributes for each district are current as of the 118th United States Congress and will be updated once the 119th United State Congress begins. The United States Congress is the legislature of the federal government of the United States. It is bicameral, composed of a lower body, the House of Representatives, and an upper body, the Senate. It meets in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Senators and representatives are chosen through direct election, though vacancies in the Senate may be filled by a governor's appointment. Congress has 535 voting members: 100 senators and 435 representatives. The U.S. vice president has a vote in the Senate only when senators are evenly divided. The House of Representatives has six non-voting members.

    Description

The Division of Water Ground Water Database has approximately 407,000 water well records, and of those, approximately 147,000 have been field located and have x, y (UTM) coordinates. Approximately 39,000 were located based on address geocoding. The remaining records have no utms and cannot be easily utilized in a GIS format. The purpose of this dataset was to include those wells with UTM coordinates and to approximate the UTM coordinates for the others based on the most precise of county, or Township, Range, Section, quarter sections (TRS) locations available from office locating, which is effectively the centroid of the smallest known section or quarter sections; thus, increasing the amount of data available for display and analysis in a GIS format. This dataset is combination of the located water well records and the water well records for which an estimated location was able to be determined using the methods described below. This leaves less than 15,000 records with no UTM's associated with them. This dataset and associated table has selected fields from the main digital water well database that are typically needed for most research. This file is a digital geospatial point feature class of both located water well records (which include UTM coordinates) and unlocated water well records. The estimated locations used for the unlocated wells were based on the polygon centroid values for the smallest indicated county, section, quarter, quarter-quarter, or quarter-quarter-quarter section (as indicated in the database) for over 221,000 water well records and for about 39,000 water well records the UTM's were obtained from address geocoding using the owners address, a generally more accurate method (see process steps below).
