    Market Size
    Description

The Indonesian data center market is experiencing robust growth, driven by the burgeoning digital economy, increasing cloud adoption, and the government's push for digital transformation. The market's substantial size, coupled with a high CAGR (let's assume a conservative 15% based on regional trends), indicates significant investment opportunities. Key growth drivers include the expanding e-commerce sector, the rising demand for digital services in the BFSI and government sectors, and the need for improved digital infrastructure to support Indonesia's large and rapidly growing population. The Greater Jakarta area serves as the primary hotspot, but expansion into other regions is accelerating as demand diversifies. While the market is dominated by larger data centers, the emergence of smaller, edge data centers caters to localized needs and reduces latency. The colocation market is witnessing a shift towards hyperscale providers meeting the needs of large cloud operators. However, challenges such as infrastructural limitations in certain regions and regulatory hurdles can somewhat constrain rapid expansion. Segmentation by Tier type, colocation model, and end-user type offers further granularity in understanding market dynamics and potential investment areas. The presence of both international players and local companies indicates a competitive yet expanding landscape. The forecast period (2025-2033) suggests continued market expansion, with a focus on meeting the growing demand for high-capacity and resilient data center infrastructure. Further growth will likely be fueled by increasing government initiatives promoting digital infrastructure development and the ongoing expansion of 5G networks. Strategic partnerships between international and local companies will be crucial in navigating the Indonesian market's unique challenges and capitalizing on its significant growth potential. Specific market segments to watch include the hyperscale colocation market and data centers located outside of Greater Jakarta, both of which are poised for exponential growth in the coming years. The ongoing development and improvement of supporting infrastructure, such as power grids and fiber optic networks, will act as a significant catalyst for market expansion. Recent developments include: September 2022: The company commenced construction on a 23MW data center in Jakarta, Indonesia, marking the company’s third site in South East Asia as it capitalizes on the region’s rapid digital transformation in the wake of the global pandemic. The new facility will offer 3,430 cabinets and an IT load of 23MW and is designed to cater for the growing demand for high power density applications from cloud-driven hyperscale deployments, local and international network and financial service providers. It is expected to complete by Q4 2023.August 2022: PT Sigma Cipta Caraka (SCA), also known as telkomsigma, transfers its data centre business to PT Telkom Data Ekosistem (TDE), which is worth a total of IDR 2.01 trillion. The parent company PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (TLKM), claimed that this transfer of the data centre business line is related to the business restructuring program held by Telkom Group.June 2022: The company announced the launch of BDx Indonesia, following the completion of a USD 300 million joint venture agreement with PT Indosat Tbk (Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison or IOH) and PT Aplikanusa Lintasarta, Big Data Exchange (BDx).. Description

In 2022, Indonesia's food security index score stood at 60.2 out of 100, ranking 63rd out of 113 countries. This indicated an increase from the previous year, but was a lower score compared to 2020. Several indicators, such as food availability, affordability, quality, and safety, contribute to measuring the level of food security in a country. Food estate program in Indonesia In 2024, the Indonesian government allocated over 114 trillion Indonesian rupiah as a budget for food security. The significant budget increase aims to enhance food availability, accessibility, and price stability, focusing particularly on the food estate program. President Joko Widodo launched this initiative to develop vast agricultural lands, primarily for rice production, in response to global food crises. Thousands of hectares of land areas have been proposed for the program development. However, concerns have recently emerged as some proposed areas have unclear locations and overlap with protected peatlands or existing forestry concessions. The role of rice in Indonesia’s food security As a staple for most Indonesians, rice is crucial in ensuring the country’s food security. However, despite being one of the world’s largest rice producers, Indonesia still depends heavily on imports to meet domestic demand, ranking as the third-largest rice importer globally. Due to a drop in rice supply, rice prices increased significantly in 2023, resulting in the highest inflation rate among other consumer commodities in the country. The food estate program is expected to contribute to achieving rice self-sufficiency and price stability in the long term.

    Description

As of 2021, it was estimated that to reach the 2030 climate goals according to the Paris Agreement target, Indonesia would need at least 281 billion U.S. dollars. Over 87 percent of these estimated financial supports will be used for the transformation of Indonesia’s energy and transportation sector. Indonesia’s climate targets Indonesia is one of the world’s largest greenhouse gas emitters. According to Indonesia’s latest Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document in July 2021, Indonesia has an emissions reduction target of 29 percent by 2030 compared to business as usual with its efforts, and 41 percent by 2030 with international assistance. As of September 2021, Sri Mulyani, Indonesia's Minister of Finance, stated that the country will require at least 4.52 quadrillion Indonesian rupiah to reach the 2030 NDC target. Climate finance in Indonesia To reach these targets, the Indonesian Government recently issued a Presidential Regulation on Carbon Pricing Instrument for NDC Achievement. From July 2022, Indonesia will implement a carbon tax of 30 Indonesian rupiah per kilogram of CO₂-equivalent (CO₂e), or 2.10 U.S. dollars per ton of CO₂e. In addition to its domestic efforts, Indonesia received 3.16 billion dollars from a range of nations and development agencies between 2017 and 2019 for its climate initiatives. However, the majority of the financial agreements for climate change mitigation in Indonesia were loans with terms, with only a small portion being grants.

Description

Population density per pixel at 100 metre resolution. WorldPop provides estimates of numbers of people residing in each 100x100m grid cell for every low and middle income country. Through ingegrating cencus, survey, satellite and GIS datasets in a flexible machine-learning framework, high resolution maps of population counts and densities for 2000-2020 are produced, along with accompanying metadata. DATASET: Alpha version 2010 and 2015 estimates of numbers of people per grid square, with national totals adjusted to match UN population division estimates (http://esa.un.org/wpp/) and remaining unadjusted. REGION: Africa SPATIAL RESOLUTION: 0.000833333 decimal degrees (approx 100m at the equator) PROJECTION: Geographic, WGS84 UNITS: Estimated persons per grid square MAPPING APPROACH: Land cover based, as described in: Linard, C., Gilbert, M., Snow, R.W., Noor, A.M. and Tatem, A.J., 2012, Population distribution, settlement patterns and accessibility across Africa in 2010, PLoS ONE, 7(2): e31743. FORMAT: Geotiff (zipped using 7-zip (open access tool): www.7-zip.org) FILENAMES: Example - AGO10adjv4.tif = Angola (AGO) population count map for 2010 (10) adjusted to match UN national estimates (adj), version 4 (v4). Population maps are updated to new versions when improved census or other input data become available. Indonesia data available from WorldPop here.
