    The FMCG category includes products such as food, beverages, toiletries, and alcohol. It is therefore not surprising that FMCG products represent a large part of state economies. For example, the food market alone is expected to reach ***** billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2023, and the revenue of the non-alcoholic beverages market to **** billion U.S. dollars.

    Household spending

    The revenues of individual FMCG markets consist of household expenditures and others. Households spend the most on food of all products falling under the FMCG category. Over the period observed from 2008 to 2022, household spending on food in Czechia has risen and reached nearly *** billion koruna in 2022. Among other personal expenses, Czech households spent a significant amount on alcoholic beverages, which amounted to almost *** billion koruna in 2022. Other crucial spending areas included the clothing market and the personal care products market.

    Growing prices

    Given the rising prices of many FMCG products, we can only expect increased household spending. The food market prices, including non-alcoholic beverages, increased by **** percent in 2022. Addictive substances such as alcoholic beverages and tobacco saw an even more radical price increase, reaching **** percent. Clothing and footwear sector was also hit by the rising inflation, causing price increases amounting to nearly ** percent. This high inflation starting in 2022 was caused by the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and the related economic crisis.

    In 2022, total private consumer spending per German household was around 2,850 euros. This sum was made up of various types of costs, of which the largest share was taken up by housing, energy, and home maintenance. Other large spending groups included food and transport. To spend or not to spend On average, the graph at hand is a representation of the life of German consumers, and the financial decisions which must be made in terms of spending. Individual consumer goods recorded varying levels of expenditure over the years. For example, German consumers spent more on clothing and shoes after the COVID-19 pandemic than before. Food spending has also increased annually in recent years. While shoppers may not necessarily be buying more food than usual, higher food prices since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022 are a contributing factor. Many are taking a second look at their spending plans and budgets. Money worries Living costs have taken the hit among the German population, some of whom have already faced previous financial challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic. Not only more expensive grocery runs, but also climbing energy prices had the potential to stretch German household spending to a critical point. However, monthly inflation figures have been decreasing again since the end of 2022 and have come back to a normal level of around two percent.

    The global total consumer spending in was forecast to continuously increase between 2024 and 2029 by in total **** trillion U.S. dollars (+***** percent). After the ninth consecutive increasing year, the consumer spending is estimated to reach **** trillion U.S. dollars and therefore a new peak in 2029. Consumer spending here refers to the domestic demand of private households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs). Spending by corporations and the state is not included. The forecast has been adjusted for the expected impact of COVID-19.Consumer spending is the biggest component of the gross domestic product as computed on an expenditure basis in the context of national accounts. The other components in this approach are consumption expenditure of the state, gross domestic investment as well as the net exports of goods and services. Consumer spending is broken down according to the United Nations' Classification of Individual Consumption By Purpose (COICOP). As not all countries and regions report data in a harmonized way, all data shown here has been processed by Statista to allow the greatest level of comparability possible. The underlying input data are usually household budget surveys conducted by government agencies that track spending of selected households over a given period.The data is shown in nominal terms which means that monetary data is valued at prices of the respective year and has not been adjusted for inflation. For future years the price level has been projected as well. The data has been converted from local currencies to US$ using the average exchange rate of the respective year. For forecast years, the exchange rate has been projected as well.
