    This data viewer provides access to a variety of geospatial data layers that can be used to help implement the Department of Interior's Integrated Rangeland Fire Management Strategy (IRFMS) which "sets forth enhanced policies and strategies for preventing suppressing rangeland fire and for restoring sagebrush landscapes impact by fire across the West".Multiple government agencies, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), US Geological Survey (USGS) and US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and partners are collectively contributing data layers to this viewer. These data are related to sagebrush ecosystems, fire and invasive species, and the Greater Sage-Grouse (GRSG).     In the United States, the federal government manages approximately 28% of the land in the United States. Most federal lands are west of the Mississippi River, where almost half of the land by area is managed by the federal government. Federal lands include 193 million acres managed by the US Forest Service in 154 National Forests and 20 National Grasslands, Bureau of Land Management lands that cover 247 million acres in Alaska and the Western United States, 150 million acres managed for wildlife conservation by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, 84 million acres of National Parks and other lands managed by the National Park Service, and over 30 million acres managed by the Department of Defense. The Bureau of Reclamation manages a much smaller land base than the other agencies included in this layer but plays a critical role in managing the country's water resources.     This polygon feature class shows the spatial extent and boundaries of Areas of Critical Environmental Concern that have become officially designated by the BLM. These polygon features were previously in a pre-designated status (i.e. being considered as areas to be eventually designated as official ACEC designated polygons). Once these polygon feature left the Pre-Designated phase (transitioned from a Considered to Designated status), they were removed from the ACEC Pre-designated polygon feature class and placed in this ACEC Designated polygon feature class. This dataset is a subset of the official national dataset, containing features and attributes intended for public release and has been optimized for online map service performance.     River Reach Habitat Quality (RFC 2008)

    This layer was digitized in 2015 for the HRS Board using data from the 2008 State of the Watershed Report. This layer shows the quality of habitat surveyed by Delia Malone on selected reaches in the Roaring Fork Watershed. This data is intended as a reference for future research and planning, site specific conditions may vary. Strahler Steam Order numbers are also given for each river reach.

    River Watch Sites

    This layer was digitized in 2015 for the HRS Board using data from the Roaring Fork Conservancy. The layer shows River Watch sites where the RFC and partner organizations monitor stream health indicators. Active sites are marked with an “x” in the popup. To access the data please visit http://cpw.state.co.us/aboutus/Pages/RW-DataSheets.aspx and search for the river and monitoring site of interest. For more information about the program and additional summery data please contact the RFC www.roaringfork.org

    Surface Water Realtime (USGS, CDSS)

    This layer shows realtime telemetry gauges maintained by the United States Geological Survey and the Colorado Decision Support System. Click on the icon and then click on “more info” to link to the gauge website. This layer can be used to monitor stream flows and diversion tunnel flows (cfs).     Parcel Boundary (Pitkin County GIS 2015)

    This layer identifies property boundaries in Pitkin County. The Parcel geometry is created by reading legal descriptions through Plats, Surveys, Deeds, and CAD drawing files. Approximately 15% of land in Pitkin County is privately held, which is represented in this layer. Federal lands are shown in the Forest Lands layer.     Description

    This data set depicts federal lands having restrictions on access or activities -- that is, lands mangaed by the National Park Service, Defense Department, or Energy Department -- in western North America. The data set was created by reformatting and merging state- and province-based ownership data layers originally acquired from diverse sources (including state GAP programs, USBLM state offices and other sources). For each original dataset 3 additional fields, "Pub_Pvt", "CA_OWN", and "SOURCE" were added and populated based on the specific ownership information contained in the source data. The original coverages were then merged based on the "CA_OWN" field. Finally, NPS, DOD, and DOE lands were selected out of the ownership layer. All work was completed in AcMap 8.3. This product and all source data are available online from SAGEMAP: http://sagemap.wr.usgs.gov.

    Description

    The Surface Management Agency (SMA) Geographic Information System (GIS) dataset depicts Federal land for the United States and classifies this land by its active Federal surface managing agency. The SMA feature class covers the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa and the Virgin Islands. A Federal SMA agency refers to a Federal agency with administrative jurisdiction over the surface of Federal lands. Jurisdiction over the land is defined when the land is either: Withdrawn by some administrative or legislative action, or Acquired or Exchanged by a Federal Agency. This layer is a dynamic assembly of spatial data layers maintained at various federal and local government offices. The GIS data contained in this dataset represents the polygon features that show the boundaries for Surface Management Agency and the surface extent of each Federal agency’s surface administrative jurisdiction. SMA data depicts current withdrawn areas for a particular agency and (when appropriate) includes land that was acquired or exchanged and is located outside of a withdrawal area for that agency. The SMA data do not illustrate land status ownership pattern boundaries or contain land ownership attribute details. The SMA Withdrawals feature class covers the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa and the Virgin Islands. A Federal SMA Withdrawal is defined by formal actions that set aside, withhold, or reserve Federal land by statute or administrative order for public purposes. A withdrawal creates a title encumbrance on the land. Withdrawals must accomplish one or more of the following: A. Transfer total or partial jurisdiction of Federal land between Federal agencies. B. Close (segregate) Federal land to operation of all or some of the public land laws and/or mineral laws. C. Dedicate Federal land to a specific public purpose. There are four major categories of formal withdrawals: (1) Administrative, (2) Presidential Proclamations, (3) Congressional, and (4) Federal Power Act (FPA) or Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Withdrawals. These SMA Withdrawals will include the present total extent of withdrawn areas rather than all of the individual withdrawal actions that created them over time. A Federal SMA agency refers to a Federal agency with administrative jurisdiction over the surface of Federal lands. Jurisdiction over the land is defined when the land is either: Withdrawn by some administrative or legislative action, or Acquired or Exchanged by a Federal Agency. This layer is a dynamic assembly of spatial data layers maintained at various federal and local government offices. The GIS data contained in this dataset represents the polygon features that show the boundaries for Surface Management Agency and the surface extent of each Federal agency’s surface administrative jurisdiction. SMA data depicts current withdrawn areas for a particular agency and (when appropriate) includes land that was acquired or exchanged and is located outside of a withdrawal area for that agency. The SMA data do not illustrate land status ownership pattern boundaries or contain land ownership attribute details.

    Description

    Feature Class for the BLM Wilderness Study Areas and BLM Other Related Lands data covered by the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) Data Standard. In particular, this feature class includes the polygon features representing the spatial extent and boundaries of the BLM National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) Wilderness Study Areas. A Wilderness is a special place where the earth and its community of life are essentially undisturbed; they retain a primeval character, without permanent improvements and generally appear to have been affected primarily by the forces of nature. In 1964, Congress established the National Wilderness Preservation System and designated the first Wilderness Areas in passing the Wilderness Act. The uniquely American idea of wilderness has become an increasingly significant tool to ensure long-term protection of natural landscapes. Wilderness protects the habitat of numerous wildlife species and serves as a biodiversity bank for many species of plants and animals. Wilderness is also a source of clean water. The Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 directed the Bureau to inventory and study its roadless areas for wilderness characteristics. To be designated as a Wilderness Study Area, an area has to have the following characteristics: Size - roadless areas of at least 5,000 acres of public lands or of a manageable size; Naturalness - generally appears to have been affected primarily by the forces of nature; Opportunities - provides outstanding opportunities for solitude or primitive and unconfined types of recreation. In addition, Wilderness Study Areas often have special qualities such as ecological, geological, educational, historical, scientific and scenic values. BLM National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) Other Related Lands are lands not in Wilderness or Wilderness Study Areas that have been determined to have wilderness character through inventory or land use planning. These lands fall into one of two categories. The first category are lands with "wilderness value and characteristics". These are inventoried areas not in Wilderness or Wilderness Study Areas that have been determined to meet the size, naturalness, and the outstanding solitude and/or the outstanding primitive and unconfined recreation criteria. The second category are "wilderness characteristic protection areas". These are former lands with "wilderness value and characteristics" where a plan decision has been made to protect them. This dataset is a subset of the official national dataset, containing features and attributes intended for public release and has been optimized for online map service performance.

    In support of new permitting workflows associated with anticipated WellSTAR needs, the CalGEM GIS unit extended the existing BLM PLSS Township & Range grid to cover offshore areas with the 3-mile limit of California jurisdiction. The PLSS grid as currently used by CalGEM is a composite of a BLM download (the majority of the data), additions by the DPR, and polygons created by CalGEM to fill in missing areas (the Ranchos, and Offshore areas within the 3-mile limit of California jurisdiction).CalGEM is the Geologic Energy Management Division of the California Department of Conservation, formerly the Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources (as of January 1, 2020).Update Frequency: As Needed

The township, range and section boundaries were digitized at MnGeo (formerly the Land Management Information Center - LMIC) from the USGS 30' x 60' map series (1:100,000-scale). Quarter section and quarter-quarter section subdivisions were calculated using the section lines. They were not digitized from original plat book survey lines or from the meandered lines that surveyors laid out around water bodies. The existence of government lots within a quarter-quarter section is recorded in the data set; however, the government lot boundaries were not digitized. If a quarter-quarter section contains more than one government lot, the number of lots is recorded -- see Lineage, Section 2, for more detail.     Description

    The Visual Resource Inventory Classes Polygon is a component of the Visual Resources Inventory (VRI) and includes information needed for inventorying for visual values on BLM-managed public lands according to policy direction found in Manual 8400 and related Handbook 8410-1. Current policy requires that every acre of BLM land be inventoried for visual values and be assigned one of four VRI classes (Class I, II, III, or IV). Class I is reserved for those areas where a management decision has been made previously to maintain a natural landscape. This includes areas such as national wilderness areas, the wild section of national wild and scenic rivers, and other congressionally and administratively designated areas where decisions have been made to preserve a natural landscape. The inventory classes provide the basis for considering visual values in the resource management planning (RMP) process and constitute the current state of visual resource values as part of the affected environment sections of environmental analyses. Particularly, this data pertains Visual Resource National, State, District and Field Office leads and any group, program, or organization that is involved with surface disturbance activities or visually altering activities, including: Land Use Planners, Realty Specialists, Recreation Planners, Natural Resource Specialists, Landscape Architects, Cultural Resource Specialists, Fluid Minerals and Renewable Energy. This dataset is a subset of the official national dataset, containing features and attributes intended for public release and has been optimized for online map service performance. The Schema Workbook represents the official national dataset from which this dataset was derived.

This data viewer provides access to a variety of geospatial data layers that can be used to help implement the Department of Interior's Integrated Rangeland Fire Management Strategy (IRFMS) which "sets forth enhanced policies and strategies for preventing suppressing rangeland fire and for restoring sagebrush landscapes impact by fire across the West".Multiple government agencies, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), US Geological Survey (USGS) and US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and partners are collectively contributing data layers to this viewer.
