Since its formation, the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum and its partners have completed a substantial amount of work in an ongoing effort to reduce salinity concentrations and loads in the Colorado River. These efforts and related monitoring have generated a large volume of data and information. This U.S. Geological Survey data release includes geospatial datasets that provide information on salinity-related topics and research in the Colorado River Basin. The datasets include background information and study-specific information. River Reach Habitat Quality (RFC 2008)
This layer was digitized in 2015 for the HRS Board using data from the 2008 State of the Watershed Report. This layer shows the quality of habitat surveyed by Delia Malone on selected reaches in the Roaring Fork Watershed. This data is intended as a reference for future research and planning, site specific conditions may vary. Strahler Steam Order numbers are also given for each river reach.
River Watch Sites
This layer was digitized in 2015 for the HRS Board using data from the Roaring Fork Conservancy. The layer shows River Watch sites where the RFC and partner organizations monitor stream health indicators. Active sites are marked with an “x” in the popup. This layer identifies property boundaries in Pitkin County. The Parcel geometry is created by reading legal descriptions through Plats, Surveys, Deeds, and CAD drawing files. Although much discussed in the literature, maps showing the detailed outline of the Colorado Mineral Belt are lacking. Lovering and Goddard (1950) show the geology and mines associated with the "Front Range mineral belt" but do not indicate an outline on plates or figures. Tweto and Sims (1963) published the outline of the Colorado mineral belt as page-size illustrations, differing on each. Sims (unpublished data, 2001) attempted to refine the outline of the Colorado Mineral Belt by sketching on a paper copy of the 1:500,000-scale geologic map (Tweto, 1979), but was lacking additional data layers such as Proterozoic structures based on aeromagnetic data, mines and prospects, to query simultaneously. Based on detailed information on the location of the Tertiary intrusions and mineral deposits, and on the control provided by the Proterozoic structures, all superimposed using GIS, a new outline of the Colorado Mineral Belt is proposed. The goal of this catalog is to provide information to stakeholders, increase effective management of resources, and help establish protocols for future data collection.
This map is interactive so you can scroll over each point and view metadata about the gage. You can use the filters on the bar to the right of the map to search for specific agencies, types of gages, and whether they are currently operating or inactive. To access the links associated with gages, click on "view data" and copy link from table that is shown.
This catalog is not an exhaustive list of all gages. Some private organizations were not able to share gages that they operate and tribal communities that may operate gages were not contacted to respect the privacy of their local government operations and information.
This is an on-going project, additional updates will be made to this map as new gages are obtained and cataloged. We are currently working on collecting and adding data for California.

This map displays the Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF) for the next 72 hours across the contiguous United States. Data are updated hourly from the National Digital Forecast Database produced by the National Weather Service.The dataset includes incremental and cumulative precipitation data in 6-hour intervals. Updated December, 2024OVERALL RANGE: The probable range of White-tailed Ptarmigan in Colorado as determined from the following criteria: Areas greater than 10,800 feet in elevation; Colorado GAP vegetation types Mixed Tundra, Meadow Tundra, Prostrate Shrub Tundra, Bare Ground Tundra, Exposed Rock, Shrub Dominated Wetland/Riparian, and Graminoid/Forb Dominated Wetland. WINTER RANGE: Area utilized in winter most frequently where drainage basins at or above treeline and stream courses below treeline from 2,591 to 3,810 meters elevation (8,500 to 12,500 feet) where food (willow) and roosting sites (soft snow) are readily available. Winter range is typically defined from late October thru mid-April. The CPW Special Report Number 38, Wintering Areas and Winter Ecology of White-tailed Ptarmigan in Colorado published in 1976 was used as the base data for development of the ptarmigan winter range dataset.This information was derived from Colorado Parks and Wildlife field personnel. Data was captured by digitizing through a SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboard using topographic maps and NAIP imagery at various scales (Cowardin, M., M. Flenner. March 2003. Maximizing Mapping Resources. GeoWorld 16(3):32-35). These data are updated on a four year rotation with one of the four Colorado Parks and Wildlife Regions updated each year. These data are not updated on a statewide level annually.
