    Description

TDEC is continuously striving to create better business practices through GIS and one way that we have found to provide information and answer some question is utilizing an interactive map. An interactive map is a display of geospatial data that allows you to manipulate and query the contents to get the information needed using a set of provided tools. Interactive maps are created using GIS software, and then distributed to users, usually over a computer network. The TDEC Land and Water interactive map will allow you to do simple tasks such as pan, zoom, measure and find a lat/long, while also giving you the capability of running simple queries to locate land and waters by name, entity, and number. With the ability to turn off and on back ground images such as aerial imagery (both black and white as well as color), we hope that you can find much utility in the tools provided.

    Description

Folium makes it easy to visualize data that’s been manipulated in Python on an interactive leaflet map. It enables both the binding of data to a map for choropleth visualizations as well as passing rich vector/raster/HTML visualizations as markers on the map. These files can be used to mark the state boundaries on the map of INDIA using folium library and the CSV also contains the state data and how to use it in our notebooks. I have used it in one of my kernels which can be viewed.

The library has a number of built-in tilesets from OpenStreetMap, Mapbox, and Stamen, and supports custom tilesets with Mapbox or Cloudmade API keys. folium supports both Image, Video, GeoJSON, and TopoJSON overlays. Due to extensible functionalities I find folium the best map plotting library in python. Do give it a try and use it in your kernels.

    Description

The 'Data and Resources' box to the right includes a link to an FTP site where data, and a data dictionary, can be downloaded that provide access to compiled data from the primary ground-sampling programs managed by the Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch (FAIB) as well as a link to and Interactive Mapping App. FAIB ground-sampling programs include the Permanent Sample Plots (PSPs) that provide long term growth and yield information to support development and testing of growth-and-yield models. Active PSPs are the only plot type protected from harvesting. The Provincial Change Monitoring Inventory (CMI), Provincial Young Stand Monitoring (YSM) and National Forest Inventory (NFI) programs monitor the changes in growth, mortality, and forest health from statistically valid populations. Vegetation Resource Inventory (VRI) plots are used to audit and verify key spatial inventory attributes estimated during photo interpretation. The 'Ground Plot Data FTP' link contains tree- and plot-level compiled mensurational attributes for each ground plot across a series of repeated measurements. Both the PSP and non-PSP compilation outputs include a Data Dictionary that describes all the tables and attributes found in the downloadable files. The 'psp' dataset includes both inactive and active Permanent Sample Plot (PSP) data. The 'non-psp' dataset includes CMI, YSM, NFI, and VRI plots. The CMI, YSM and NFI plots are all located on a grid and only GENERALIZED COORDINATES are provided for these plot types. All PSP and VRI plots include REAL COORDINATES. The Interactive Mapping App provides a spatial view of FAIB ground plots with custom filters to enable selection of areas, BEC zones, species, TSA or plot types of interest. Once plots of interest are selected or filtered, an ‘export data’ button is available to download a plot summary file with limited attributes.

    Description

These interactive energy equity indicators are designed to help identify opportunities to improve access to clean energy technologies for low-income customers and disadvantaged communities; increase clean energy investment in those communities; and improve community resilience to grid outages and extreme events. A summary report of these indicators will be updated each year to track progress on implementation of the recommendations put forth by the Energy Commission’s December 2016 Low-Income Barriers Study mandated by Senate Bill 350 (de León, Chapter547, Statutes of 2015), and monitor performance of state-administered clean energy programs in low-income and disadvantaged communities across the state.

Selected energy equity indicators are highlighted on the following California map. The base map highlights areas with median household income of $37,000 or less (60 percent of statewide median income for 2011-2015) and disadvantaged communities eligible for greenhouse gas reduction fund programs. The map also identifies tribal areas. Click to view data for low-income areas with low energy efficiency investments, low solar capacity per capita, or low clean vehicle rebate incentive investments. Additional data layers include high-density low-income areas and low-income areas that have many older buildings, as well as counties with high levels of asthma-related emergency room visit. This information can help identify opportunities for improving clean energy access, investment, and resilience in low-income and disadvantaged communities in California. Additional indicators are available by clicking on the Story Map or Tracking Progress Report links provided above.
