The Capital Planning Platform is a new resource for collaborative planning, powered by open data and open source technology.The New York City Department of City Planning pioneered open data with Bytes of the Big Apple a decade ago. With the creation of the DCP"s Capital Planning Division in 2014, we envisioned a new civic technology resource: the Capital Planning Platform - a place for planners to access the maps, data, and analytics that they need to plan for public investments in neighborhoods and collaborate with one another. The NYC Facilities Explorer (beta) is a first step in building this vision. Over the months and years to come, we plan to add more map layers, new and improved datasets, and new analysis tools to this mapping platform to help automate a broad array of planning analyses and make the capital planning process more efficient, coordinated, and strategic across the public and private sectors in New York City.The Capital Planning Platform complements other data and maps that DCP produces. Publication Date: APR 2018. A vector polygon GIS file of all city and town boundaries in New York State. The file was originally a compilation of U.S. Geological Survey 1:100,000-scale digital vector files and NYS Department of Transportation 1:24,000-scale and 1:75,000-scale digital vector files. Boundaries were revised to 1:24,000-scale positional accuracy and selectively updated based on municipal boundary reviews, court decisions and NYS Department of State Local Law filings for annexations, dissolutions, and incorporations. Currently, boundary changes are made based on NYS Department of State Local Law filings (http://locallaws.dos.ny.gov/). Additional updates and corrections are made as needed in partnership with municipalities. A 6-in resolution 8-class land cover dataset derived from the 2017 Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data capture. This dataset was developed as part of an updated urban tree canopy assessment and therefore represents a ''top-down" mapping perspective in which tree canopy overhanging features is assigned to the tree canopy class. The eight land cover classes mapped were: (1) Tree Canopy, (2) Grass\Shrubs, (3) Bare Soil, (4) Water, (5) Buildings, (6) Roads, (7) Other Impervious, and (8) Railroads. The primary sources used to derive this land cover layer were 2017 LiDAR (1-ft post spacing) and 2016 4-band orthoimagery (0.5-ft resolution). This map answers the question "What is the most common, or predominant, education level for people in this area?" The map shows predominant educational attainment in each census tract. Darker colors indicate a greater gap between the predominant group and the next largest group.The U.S. Census Bureau asks citizens to indicate how far they went in formal education. The database includes seven different columns, each representing a count of population by that education level. A simple routine in compares the seven columns of information, and finds which one has the highest value, writing that to a string field. Each tract's transparency is set by a transparency field added to the data.Predominance maps can be created in ArcGIS Online by adding two fields, calculating their values, and setting up the renderer based on those two fields. The Geographic Information Gateway (Gateway) is a state-of-the-art website providing public access to data, real-time information, interactive tools, and expert knowledge relevant to the Office of Planning and Development’s activities throughout New York State. Interactive map viewers enable users to easily download, visualize, and explore geographic data. A Latest Conditions page provides access to real-time information across the State, such as water quality, tide levels, and beach conditions. Also included on this site are illustrated stories, which highlight case studies, showcase community success stories, and demonstrate how the Office uses available geographic information to improve planning and decision-making. The Gateway’s suite of information and tools serves as a valuable resource for New York communities, an educational resource for schools and universities, and a guide for the responsible development of the State’s resources.

The Department of City Planning aggregates information about 30,000+ facilities and program sites that are owned, operated, funded, licensed, or certified by a City, State, or Federal agency in the City of New York into a central database called the City Planning Facilities Database (FacDB). These facilities generally help to shape quality of life in the city’s neighborhoods, and this dataset is the basis for a series of planning activities. This public data resource allows all New Yorkers to understand the breadth of government resources in their neighborhoods. The data is also complemented with a new interactive web map that enables users to easily filter the data for their needs. Users are strongly encouraged to read the database documentation, particularly with regard to analytical limitations.

The data represent web-scraping of hyperlinks from a selection of environmental stewardship organizations that were identified in the 2017 NYC Stewardship Mapping and Assessment Project (STEW-MAP) (USDA 2017). There are two data sets: 1) the original scrape containing all hyperlinks within the websites and associated attribute values (see "README" file); 2) a cleaned and reduced dataset formatted for network analysis. For dataset 1: Organizations were selected from from the 2017 NYC Stewardship Mapping and Assessment Project (STEW-MAP) (USDA 2017), a publicly available, spatial data set about environmental stewardship organizations working in New York City, USA (N = 719). To create a smaller and more manageable sample to analyze, all organizations that intersected (i.e., worked entirely within or overlapped) the NYC borough of Staten Island were selected for a geographically bounded sample. Only organizations with working websites and that the web scraper could access were retained for the study (n = 78). The websites were scraped between 09 and 17 June 2020 to a maximum search depth of ten using the snaWeb package (version 1.0.1, Stockton 2020) in the R computational language environment (R Core Team 2020). A dataset representing the shorelines of tidally influenced areas of New York City. This dataset is derived from the 2017 Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data capture. In most areas, LiDAR was captured during low tide (defined here as a range between Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) and MLLW + 30% of the mean tide range). All bathymetric LiDAR and most near-infrared (NIR) LiDAR was captured during low tide. Flights flown over NIR LiDAR shoreline areas that are largely made up of sea walls and riprap were not flown during low tide. Tidal gauges used to determine low tide: Kings Point, Bergen West, Sandy Hook, and The Battery. See dataset attributes for which areas are tidally-coordinated.

Note: The files can be downloaded from the Attachments section below. Please note that the total size is 180GB, so the download may take some time depending on your system’s capabilities and configuration. Topographic and bathymetric LiDAR data was collected for New York City in 2017. Topographic data was collected for the entire city, plus an additional 100 meter buffer, using a Leica ALS80 sensor equipped to capture at least 8 pulse/m2. Dates of capture for topographic data were between 05/03/2017 and 05/17/2017 during 50% leaf-off conditions. Bathymetric data was collected in select areas of the city (where bathymetric data capture was expected) using a Riegl VQ-880-G sensor equipped to capture approximately 15 pulses/m2 (1.5 Secchi depths). Dates of capture for bathymetric were between 07/04/2017 - 07/26/2017. LiDAR data was tidally-coordinated and captured between mean lower low water (+30% of mean tide) ranges. The horizontal datum for all datasets is NAD83, the vertical datum is NAVD88, Geoid 12B, and the data is projected in New York State Plane - Long Island. Units are in US Survey Feet. This map shows the median household income in New York City, by Census Tracts. The data comes from Esri's ArcGIS Online data enrichment using the Living Atlas Census Tract Analysis layer. The vintage of the data is 2015.

The New York Times is releasing a series of data files with cumulative counts of coronavirus cases in the United States, at the state and county level, over time. We are compiling this time series data from state and local governments and health departments in an attempt to provide a complete record of the ongoing outbreak.

Since late January, The Times has tracked cases of coronavirus in real time as they were identified after testing. Because of the widespread shortage of testing, however, the data is necessarily limited in the picture it presents of the outbreak.

We have used this data to power our maps and reporting tracking the outbreak, and it is now being made available to the public in response to requests from researchers, scientists and government officials who would like access to the data to better understand the outbreak.

The data begins with the first reported coronavirus case in Washington State on Jan. 21, 2020. We will publish regular updates to the data in this repository.

A 6-in resolution tree canopy change (2010 - 2017) dataset derived from the 2017 Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data capture. This dataset represents a "top-down" mapping perspective and all tree polygons are classed as: (1) No Change, (2) Gain, (3) Loss. No change indicates that this portion of the canopy has undergone no modifications during the time period. Gain indicates that new tree canopy has appeared during the time period. Loss indicates that this portion of the tree canopy was removed during the time period. This feature service has two layers: 1) NYS Tax Parcels Public, and 2) NYS Tax Parcels Public Footprint which contains polygons representing counties for which tax parcel polygons are available in the NYS Tax Parcels Public layer. County footprint polygons display when zoomed out beyond 1:37,050-scale. Tax parcel polygons display when zoomed in below 1:37,051-scale. The NYS Tax Parcels Public layer contains 2024 parcel data only for NY State counties which gave NYS ITS Geospatial Services permission to share this data with the public. Work to obtain parcel data from additional counties, as well as permission to share the data, is ongoing. To date, 36 counties have provided Geospatial Services permission to share their parcel data with the public. Parcel data for counties which do not allow Geospatial Services to redistribute their data must be obtained directly from those counties. Geospatial Services' goal is to eventually include parcel data for all counties in New York State. Parcel geometry was incorporated as received from County Real Property Departments. No attempt was made to edge-match parcels along adjacent counties. This EnviroAtlas dataset shows the boundary of the New York, NY EnviroAtlas Community. It represents the outside edge of all the block groups included in the EnviroAtlas community. This dataset was produced by the US EPA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. EnviroAtlas (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas) allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the contiguous United States. This data set features a hyperlink to the New York State Department of Transportation’s (NYSDOT) Traffic Data (TD) Viewer web page, which includes a link to the Traffic Data interactive map. The Traffic Data Viewer is a geospatially based Geographic Information System (GIS) application for displaying data contained in the roadway inventory database. The interactive map has five viewable data categories or ‘layers’. The five layers include: Average Daily Traffic (ADT); Continuous Counts; Short Counts; Bridges; and Grade Crossings throughout New York State.
