    Description

This dataset presents data on health and disability available from the ABS Data by Region statistics. This release of Data by Region presents various data for 2011-2018 and Census of Population and Housing data for 2011 and 2016 and is based on the Statistical Area 4 (SA4) 2016 boundaries. The dataset includes information in the following specified areas of health and disability: Disability Estimates and Private Health. Data by Region contains a standard set of data for each region type, depending on the availability of statistics for particular geographies. Data are sourced from a wide variety of collections, both ABS and non-ABS. When analysing these statistics, care needs to be taken as time periods, definitions, methodologies, scope and coverage can differ across collections. Where available, data have been presented as a time series - to enable users to assess changes over time. However, when looked at on a period to period basis, some series may sometimes appear volatile. When analysing the data, users are encouraged to consider the longer term behaviour of the series, where this extra information is available. For more information please visit the Explanatory Notes. AURIN has made the following changes to the original data: Spatially enabled the original data with the ABS Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) SA4 2016 dataset. Some data values in Data by Region have been randomly adjusted or suppressed to avoid the release of confidential details. Where data was not available, not available for publication, nil or rounded to zero in the original data, it has been set to null. Columns and rows that did not contain any values in the original data have been removed.

    Description

Health expenditure occurs where money is spent on health goods and services. It occurs at different levels of government, as well as by non-government entities such as private health insurers and individuals.

In many cases, funds pass through a number of different entities before they are ultimately spent by providers (such as hospitals, general practices and pharmacies) on health goods and services.

The term ‘health expenditure’ in this context relates to all funds given to, or for, providers of health goods and services. It includes the funds provided by the Australian Government to the state and territory governments, as well as the funds provided by the state and territory governments to providers.

This data has been superseded, for more recent data on health expenditure, please the AIHW page on health expenditure.

    Description

This dataset presents the footprint of the percentage of adults who saw three or more health professionals for the same condition in the preceding 12 months. The data spans the years of 2014-2017 and is aggregated to 2015 Department of Health Primary Health Network (PHN) areas, based on the 2011 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS).

The data is sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 2016-17 Patient Experience Survey, collected between 1 July 2016 and 30 June 2017. It also includes data from previous Patient Experience Surveys conducted in 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16. The Patient Experience Survey is conducted annually by the ABS and collects information from a representative sample of the Australian population. The Patient Experience Survey is one of several components of the Multipurpose Household Survey, as a supplement to the monthly Labour Force Survey. The Patient Experience Survey collects data on persons aged 15 years and over, who are referred to as adults for this data collection.

For further information about this dataset, visit the data source:Australian Institute of Health and Welfare - Patient experiences in Australia Data Tables.

    Please note:

    • AURIN has spatially enabled the original data using the Department of Health - PHN Areas.

    • Percentages are calculated based on counts that have been randomly adjusted by the ABS to avoid the release of confidential data.

    • As an indication of the accuracy of estimates, 95% confidence intervals were produced. These were calculated by the ABS using standard error estimates of the proportion.

    • Some of the patient experience measures for 2016-17 have age-standardised rates presented. Age-standardised rates are hypothetical rates that would have been observed if the populations studied had the same age distribution as the standard population.

    • Crude rates are provided for all years. They should be used for understanding the patterns of actual service use or level of experience in a particular PHN.

    • The Patient Experience Survey excludes persons aged less than 15 years, persons living in non-private dwellings and the Indigenous Community Strata (encompassing discrete Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities).

    • Data for Northern Territory should be interpreted with caution as the Patient Experience Survey excluded the Indigenous Community Strata, which comprises around 25% of the estimated resident population of the Northern Territory living in private dwellings.

    • NP - Not available for publication. The estimate is considered to be unreliable. Values assigned to NP in the original data have been set to null.

    Description

The Trust in Digital Health project was conducted by the Centre for Social Research in Health, UNSW Sydney in collaboration with community organisations to assess views of digital health systems in Australia, particularly among communities affected by bloodborne viruses and sexually transmissible infections. We conducted a national, online survey of Australians’ attitudes to digital health in April–June 2020. The sample (N=2,240) was recruited from the general population and four priority populations affected by HIV and other sexually transmissible infections: gay and bisexual men, people living with HIV, sex workers, and trans and gender-diverse people. The deidentified dataset and syntax provided here were used for an analysis of factors associated with greater knowledge of My Health Record and the likelihood of opting out of the system. My Health Record is Australia’s national, digital, personal health record system. , The data were collected from a national, online, cross-sectional survey conducted in Australia in April–June 2020. The dataset has been deidentified and cleaned using Stata version 16.1 (College Station, TX)., Stata version 16.1 (College Station, TX) was used to create the dataset (a .dta file) and perform statistical analyses (in a .do syntax file).

    Description

This dataset presents the footprint of the percentage of adults who reported having a long-term health condition. The data spans the years of 2013-2017 and is aggregated to 2015 Department of Health Primary Health Network (PHN) areas, based on the 2011 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS). Please note: AURIN has spatially enabled the original data using the Department of Health - PHN Areas. Percentages are calculated based on counts that have been randomly adjusted by the ABS to avoid the release of confidential data. As an indication of the accuracy of estimates, 95% confidence intervals were produced. These were calculated by the ABS using standard error estimates of the proportion. Some of the patient experience measures for 2016-17 have age-standardised rates presented. Age-standardised rates are hypothetical rates that would have been observed if the populations studied had the same age distribution as the standard population. Crude rates are provided for all years. They should be used for understanding the patterns of actual service use or level of experience in a particular PHN. The Patient Experience Survey excludes persons aged less than 15 years, persons living in non-private dwellings and the Indigenous Community Strata (encompassing discrete Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities). Data for Northern Territory should be interpreted with caution as the Patient Experience Survey excluded the Indigenous Community Strata, which comprises around 25% of the estimated resident population of the Northern Territory living in private dwellings. NP - Not available for publication. The estimate is considered to be unreliable. Values assigned to NP in the original data have been set to null.

    Description

This dataset presents data on health and disability available from the ABS Data by Region statistics. This release of Data by Region presents various data for 2011-2018 and Census of Population and Housing data for 2011 and 2016 and is based on the Local Government Area (LGA) 2019 boundaries.
