    Description

The research objective is how much influence the work environment and work culture together have on the work performance of employees at the Secretariat of the Human Resources Development Agency, Ministry of Home Affairs. The purpose of this study is to determine and examine the magnitude of the influence of the work environment and work culture jointly on employee performance at the Secretariat of the Human Resources Development Agency, Ministry of Home Affairs. The research method uses a survey with a quantitative approach that is correlational with the sampling technique used based on the sampling table developed by Isaac and Michael. In this study, the number of samples was 58 respondents. The variables studied were work environment (X1) and work culture (X2) as independent variables, while employee performance was the dependent variable (Y). Based on the results of the research that has been done, namely: 1) Based on the results of hypothesis testing the effect of work environment variables on employee performance at the Secretariat of the Human Resources Development Agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has a strong and significant positive influence, this is indicated by the correlation coefficient value of 0.695 and the coefficient of determination of r2 = 0.483 or 48.3%, this means that 48.3% employee performance is determined by the work environment, the remaining 51.7% is determined by other factors. Furthermore, for the significance test, the t-count value is 7.233 and the t-table value is 2.000. This means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted because t-count (7.233) > t-table (2.000). 2) Based on the results of hypothesis testing the effect of work culture variables on employee performance at the Secretariat of the Human Resources Development Agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has a strong and significant positive influence, this is indicated by the correlation coefficient value of 0.697 and the coefficient of determination of r2 = 0.486 or 48.6%, this means that 48.6% employee performance is determined by work culture, the remaining 51.4% is determined by other factors. Furthermore, for the significance test, the t-count value is 7.276 and the t-table value is 2.000. This means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted because t-count (7.276) > t-table (2.000). 3) To test the double correlation hypothesis of work environment and work culture variables together on employee performance at the Secretariat of the Human Resources Development Agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs, it turns out to have a strong and significant positive influence with a correlation coefficient of 0.739 and a coefficient of determination of r2 = 0.546, this means that together employee performance of 54.6% is determined by the work environment and work culture, the remaining 45.4% is determined by other factors. Furthermore, for the significance test, the F-count value was 33.133 and the F-table value was 3.17. This means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted because of F-count (33.133) > F-table (3.17).

    Description

ABSTRACT This article offers a review of John Dunning’s contribution to international business (IB) research, so as to assess the impact of Dunning and of the Eclectic paradigm on this discipline. The contribution of Dunning and of the Eclectic paradigm - usually referred to as OLI - are a core reference to current international business research, namely for studying location decisions, foreign investment, entry modes and internationalization, and for the multinational enterprise theory. First, we review the conceptual foundations of Dunning’s academic contribution. Second, methodologically, we carry out a bibliometric study of articles published in 14 respected academic business magazines over a period of 31 years, between 1980 and 2010. A sample of 697 published articles that refer to Dunning’s work supports the analysis of citations and co-citations matrixes and of relevant themes, allowing us to verify the influence of Dunning’s work on the international business and Management disciplines. This study allowed us to identify the network of connections between Dunning’s Eclectic paradigm and a variety of international business theories, concepts and authors, as well as with the main subjects studied in the discipline. We observed the connections to the transaction costs theory, resource-based view, industrial organization and evolutionary theory. This study also contributes to scholars’ better understanding of the development of the discipline and of the structure of knowledge within connections between theories and authors. Through their contributions, scholars such as John Dunning leave their imprint on the way in which disciplines and knowledge evolve. Dunning’s work, in the Eclectic paradigm, systematized three conditions that guide the internationalization of companies - and is now a reference for entrepreneurial activities, scholars and research.

    Description

National cultures and cultural differences provide a crucial component of the international business (IB) research context. We conducted a bibliometric study of articles published in seven leading IB journals over a period of three decades to analyze how national culture has been impacting IB research. Co-citation mappings permit us to identify the ties binding works dealing with culture and cultural issues in IB. We identify two main clusters of research, each comprising two sub-clusters, with Hofstede’s (1980) work delineating much of the conceptual and empirical approach to culture-related studies. One main cluster entails works on the conceptualization of culture and its dimensions and the other cluster focuses on cultural distance. This conceptual framework captures the extant IB research incorporating culture-related concepts and influences.

Rachmad, Yoesoep Edhie. 2020. Mentorship and Networking: Crucial Factors for Millennial Entrepreneurial Success. International Journal of Business Mentoring, Volume 11, No 3. https://doi.org/10.17605/osf.io/gu8cz

In the 2020 study "Mentorship and Networking: Crucial Factors for Millennial Entrepreneurial Success," published in the "International Journal of Business Mentoring," Volume 11, Issue 3, Yoesoep Edhie Rachmad explores the profound impact of mentorship and networking on the success trajectories of millennial entrepreneurs. This research examines how these elements contribute to business development, problem-solving, and opportunity identification within the unique context of millennial-driven startups. Background: Situated within the broader framework of entrepreneurial support systems, the study underscores the importance of mentorship and robust professional networks as vital tools for navigating the complex landscape of modern entrepreneurship. It highlights the tendency of millennials to leverage social and professional connections in innovative ways to advance their business goals. Definition and Basic Concepts: Mentorship is defined as a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person, particularly in a professional or business context. Networking is described as the process of interacting with others to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts; particularly vital in entrepreneurship for resource exchange, collaboration opportunities, and new venture support. Phenomenon: The driving phenomenon behind the research is the increasing reliance on social capital and networks in the business world, coupled with the millennial generation's distinct approach to integrating technology and social media in building these networks. This generation's preference for collaborative and cross-disciplinary approaches to business challenges underscores the relevance of mentorship and networking. Problem Formulation: The main challenge addressed by the research is understanding how mentorship and networking specifically contribute to the success of millennial entrepreneurs. The study seeks to delineate the mechanisms through which these networks and relationships impact business growth, sustainability, and innovation. Research Objectives: The objectives include analyzing the roles of mentorship and networking in supporting millennial entrepreneurs, identifying the benefits and potential challenges associated with these factors, and providing actionable insights on optimizing these relationships for business success. Qualitative Research Methodology: Employing a qualitative approach, the methodology features in-depth interviews with successful millennial entrepreneurs who attribute part of their success to strong mentorship and effective networking. Case studies of businesses that exemplify successful integration of these elements are also included, offering practical examples of how mentorship and networking can be leveraged. Criteria and Respondent Selection: Respondents were selected based on their active engagement in mentorship programs, either as mentors or mentees, and their reported success in utilizing professional networks to enhance their entrepreneurial endeavors. Description

Abstract for Journal of Teaching in International Business, forthcoming. To function in the global business world, managers must have global business knowledge, complemented by the skills and attitudes to deal with different cultural patterns. Business schools thus face the challenge of developing the global business literacy of their students. It is still not clear what factors determine the development of dimensions of global business literacy and what role country differences play. This study compares the global business literacy of 505 business students in four Central European countries and 157 in the U.S.A. Besides testing country differences, it applies regression analysis to determine whether these differences can be explained by variations in the course of study, language training, and other characteristics. The Central European students score higher in self-efficacy and international business knowledge compared to Americans, which differences can be explained by factors such as international course work, study abroad participation, foreign language competence, and interactions with foreigners. However, there are no significant differences in willingness to learn and American students are better in relationship development. It appears that while most dimensions of global business literacy can be developed universally, some dimensions require culture-specific approaches.
