For the International Passenger Survey 2023, additional variables have been included in the “QReg” dataset, as detailed in the linked document. The “Custom” dataset is the updated version of “QcontCust,” with changes also outlined in the linked document. The “QReg” dataset has been expanded to provide more variables for analysis. The “Custom” dataset has been updated with extra variables for enhanced analysis and updated variable names where necessary.
Latest edition information
For the second edition (June 2025),a revised QReg data file has been added to the study. The original QReg data file contained an error and should not be used.

TwitterVisit Britain publish data relating to international visitors to the UK. They produce the data in two formats - individual spreadsheets for each region that are updated annually, and a single spreadsheet for all regions, containing less detail but updated quarterly. Data shows London totals for nights, visits, and spend. Data broken down by age, purpose, duration, mode and country. This data is also available from Visit Britain website, including the latest quarterly data for other regions. All data taken from the International Passenger Survey (IPS). Some additional data on domestic tourism can be found on the Visit Britain website, and Visit England both overnight tourism and Day visits pages. Data on accomodation occupancy levels is also available from Visit England. An overview of all tourism data for London can be found in this GLAE report 'Tourism in London' Further information can be found on the London and Partners website. Comparisons of international tourist arrivals with other world cities are produced by Euromonitor and in Mastercard's Global Destination Cities Index of 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. This dataset is included in the Greater London Authority's Night Time Observatory. Click here to find out more.

TwitterThe Washington-Baltimore Regional Air Passenger Survey (RAPS) is designed as an at-gate lobby interview survey. Interviewers distribute survey questionnaires to departing air passengers in the gate holding areas for pre-selected flights, and then collect the filled out questionnaires as the passengers complete them or as the passengers are called to board their flight. The Regional Air Passenger Survey is conducted on a biennial basis at the region’s three major commercial airports: Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). These surveys provide data which are essential for the airport system planning and master planning processes, which shed lights on passengers' airport choice and preference, trip purpose, modes of access, and their demographic characteristics. This dataset includes one of the survey elements, the Air Passenger Originations by Airport, which summarize the amount of passengers in each of the Airport Analysis Zone (AAZ) in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019. A total of 161 AAZs are represented. Trips originated in each AAZ is also categorized into home based and non-home based. This dataset is updated as additional survey data become available. To obtain a copy of the General Findings Report or Geographic Findings Report of the RAPS, please visit the following two websites:Washington-Baltimore Regional Air Passenger Survey - General Findings ReportWashington-Baltimore Regional Air Passenger Survey - Geographic Findings ReportFor more information on regional air systems-related data and survey findings, please visit TPB’s Continuous Airport System Planning Program (CASP) website.

The depositor recommends that only expert users who are very familiar with the coding and weighting structures use these data, as limited support is available. Some considerable understanding of the data is required before meaningful analyses can be made; care must be taken when performing time series operations as codes can vary from year to year and not all variables from one year's dataset are used in other years.
The data cover four subject areas, termed 'Airmiles', 'Alcohol', 'Qregtown' and 'Qcontact'. One file is produced each quarter per subject area, and the dataset updated quarterly. These files can be joined together using the variables YEAR, SERIAL, FLOW and QUARTER.
Weighting the IPS
ONS advise that the variable 'fweight' included in the 'Qcontact' dataset should be applied to get an overall weighted profile. This weight is set consistently overtime. Other weights are provided to analyse finer detail but no information is provided in the documentation. ONS are currently reviewing the documentation but in the meantime if users have any detailed weighting questions they should contact the ONS at socialsurveys@ons.gov.uk.
The original deposit of this dataset was made in August 2006, and contained data from the first quarter (January-March 2006). Subsequent editions were updated in conjunction with successive quarters of IPS, until the fourth edition (May 2007) which contained data from the fourth quarter (October-December 2006) and took into account Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) revised estimates of interlining at major UK airports, and new information on spending and numbers of visits from tourists using the Irish land border, an area not covered by the IPS sample. The CAA estimates were further revised for the fifth edition (October 2007), when data files for all four quarters of 2006 were updated. The revised CAA figures have shown much lower levels of interlining than previously estimated and so IPS estimates of visits to and from the UK have generally risen. The information on tourists using the Irish land border was also updated.
