    Description

    Child Protective Investigations (CPI) is authorized to investigate abuse and neglect allegedly committed by a person responsible for a child's care, custody or welfare and to protect abused and neglected children from further harm. This authorization is derived from the U.S. Social Securities Act, Texas Family Code, Human Resources Code, Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, Indian Child Welfare Act and the Adam Walsh Act. CPI conducts either a traditional investigation or Alternative Response (AR). Both require CPI to assess safety and take needed actions to protect a child and assess the risk of future abuse or neglect in the foreseeable future. AR, however, allows for a more flexible, family engaging approach on lower priority cases involving alleged victims who are age 6 or older. AR differs from traditional investigations in that there is no substantiation of allegations, no entry of perpetrators into the Central Registry (a repository for reports of child abuse and neglect), and there a heightened focus on guiding the family to plan for safety in a way that works for them and therefore sustains the safety. Completed investigations only include those cases conducted as a traditional investigation that were not administratively closed or merged into another stage. An investigation can only be administratively closed if all allegations have a disposition of administrative closure. A completed investigation can include more than one alleged victim. Completed investigations do not include any Alternative Response cases. A description of Alternative Response and how it differs from a traditional investigation is in the glossary. FOOTNOTES An investigation represents a report of abuse or neglect and can involve multiple children. The data on completed investigations does not include investigative stages that were administratively closed or merged into another investigation.     The DFD Fire Investigation Division (FID) is tasked with investigating all intentional (arson) and accidental fires to determine the origin, cause, and circumstances of fires within the city. Fire investigations serve not only to document the circumstances associated with fires, but also contribute to development and implementation of fire prevention strategies and programs. Fire investigations are conducted according to the City of Detroit Fire Prevention and Protection Code (Detroit City Code Chapter 18), the State of Michigan Fire Prevention Code (Act 207 of 1941), and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) Standards 921 (Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations) and 1033 (Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator).Each row in the dataset represents a fire investigation, and includes data about investigation status, when and where the fire occurred, when the investigation started, the primary cause (‘determination’) of the fire, and civilian injuries and fatalities associated with the fire. Fire Investigation records can be linked to Fire Incident records using the fire incident number. Note that if DFD was not called to the fire under investigation (about 2-3% of investigations), a fire incident number is not included in the investigation record. This occurs if, for example, DPD rather than DFD is dispatched because a fire that was extinguished is reported. The Fire Investigations dataset is updated daily and includes records from 2019 to the present.

    Description

    The One Health approach unites efforts across human-animal-environment interfaces against shared threats like zoonotic diseases. T-Racing is a Shiny web application, that supports epidemiological investigations and helps contain livestock-related disease spread, aligning with multidisciplinary principles to safeguard public health. The application uses Temporal Network Analysis techniques to address the dynamic nature of animal trade, facilitating backward and forward tracing strategies. T-Racing leverages web services to retrieve data from multiple sources simultaneously and in near real-time through the plumber package and is distributed using Shinyproxy. T-Racing manages and analyze extensive and diverse datasets within the same environment, including animal movement data, disease outbreak data, and genomic data, all obtained from Italian National databases. In this work, we show T-Racing’s capabilities by simulating epidemiological investigations of brucellosis and tuberculosis outbreaks that occurred in non–endemic areas of Italy. To further highlight its capabilities, an interactive demo of T-Racing is available, showcasing its potential and features. This tool supports epidemiological investigations by adopting a data-driven approach, guiding users through the analysis via an iterative process while leveraging their expertise. Therefore, it enables faster data analysis, improves understanding of disease transmission patterns, and facilitates prompt and targeted interventions.

    Description

    Europe's Lost Frontiers Project successfully identified the earliest contact between mainland Europe and Great Britain based on a large-scale programme of sub-surface mapping and coring in the region known as Doggerland, located off the east coast of Britain. Recent sub-surface mapping off the west coast of Britain now affords us the opportunity to determine the earliest contact between mainland Europe/Britain and Ireland. The evidence for early Mesolithic and Neolithic contacts between Ireland and Britain along the Atlantic province is strong. Therefore any earlier contact is also strong in these areas based on the known palaeolandscape. To provide a context for the earliest contacts in Ireland there is a need to explore the palaeo-coastlines, based on previous sub-surface mapping. The extent of the palaeo-coastlines off the present day Irish coast is limited, therefore we must look to the adjacent palaeo-coastlines that are appropriate for further study. The available land and supporting data are best off the west coast of Britain. Specifically, our sub-surface mapping and data from the palaeo-coastlines has identified a number of key locations which we intend to core. The project will reconstruct and simulate the palaeo-environments of the Irish Sea using ancient DNA extracted directly from sediment cores and explore the palaeolandscapes of Ireland and identify incipient signals indicating early contact and development. This survey, led by IT Sligo on board the Marine Institute's Celtic Voyager, took place in November 2017 in the Irish Sea. The survey objectives were : Obtain 16 Cores from Liverpool Bay Obtain 4 Cores from Cardigan Bay Obtain high-precision geophysical data at each of the 21 Core locations However, not all objectives were achieved as no vibrocoring took place due to bed weather conditions. The main purpose of the survey was to reconstruct and simulate the palaeo-environments of the Irish Sea using ancient DNA extracted directly from the sediment cores.

    Description

    The Fast Plasma Instrument (FPI) usually Operates in Fast Survey (FS) Mode in the MMS Region Of Interest (ROI) for the current Mission Phase. Data are taken at Burst (30/150 ms for DES/DIS) Resolution are aggregated onboard and made available at Survey (4.5 s) Resolution in this Mode. This Product contains Phase Space Distribution Maps of Results from surveying the High Resolution Observations during each 4.5 s Period. In particular, the (highest possible Quality at the Time of Release) corrected/converted "Fast Survey Sky Map" Distributions are reported with Time Stamps and other Annotation characterizing the State of the Instrument System at the indicated Time.

    BackgroundContact tracing, to identify source cases with untreated tuberculosis (TB), is rarely performed in high disease burden settings when the index case is a young child with TB. As TB is strongly associated with HIV infection in these settings, we used source case investigation to determine the prevalence of undiagnosed TB and HIV in the caregivers and household contacts of hospitalised young children diagnosed with TB in South Africa.MethodsCaregivers and household contacts of 576 young children (age ≤7 years) with TB diagnosed between May 2010 and August 2012 were screened for TB and HIV. The primary outcome was the detection of laboratory-confirmed, newly-diagnosed TB disease and/or HIV-infection in close contacts.ResultsOf 576 caregivers, 301 (52·3%) self-reported HIV-positivity. Newly-diagnosed HIV infection was detected in 63 (22·9%) of the remaining 275 caregivers who self-reported an unknown or negative HIV status. Screening identified 133 (23·1%) caregivers eligible for immediate anti-retroviral therapy (ART). Newly-diagnosed TB disease was detected in 23 (4·0%) caregivers. In non-caregiver household contacts (n = 1341), the prevalence of newly-diagnosed HIV infection and TB disease was 10·0% and 3·2% respectively. On average, screening contacts of every nine children with TB resulted in the identification of one case of newly-diagnosed TB disease, three cases of newly diagnosed HIV-infection, and three HIV-infected persons eligible for ART.ConclusionIn high burden countries, source case investigation yields high rates of previously undiagnosed HIV and TB infection in the close contacts of hospitalised young children diagnosed with TB. Furthermore, integrated screening identifies many individuals who are eligible for immediate ART. Similar studies, with costing analyses, should be undertaken in other high burden settings–integrated source case investigation for TB and HIV should be routinely undertaken if our findings are confirmed.

Description

Child Protective Investigations (CPI) is authorized to investigate abuse and neglect allegedly committed by a person responsible for a child's care, custody or welfare and to protect abused and neglected children from further harm. This authorization is derived from the U.S. Social Securities Act, Texas Family Code, Human Resources Code, Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, Indian Child Welfare Act and the Adam Walsh Act. CPI conducts either a traditional investigation or Alternative Response (AR). Both require CPI to assess safety and take needed actions to protect a child and assess the risk of future abuse or neglect in the foreseeable future. AR, however, allows for a more flexible, family engaging approach on lower priority cases involving alleged victims who are age 6 or older. AR differs from traditional investigations in that there is no substantiation of allegations, no entry of perpetrators into the Central Registry (a repository for reports of child abuse and neglect), and there a heightened focus on guiding the family to plan for safety in a way that works for them and therefore sustains the safety. Completed investigations only include those cases conducted as a traditional investigation that were not administratively closed or merged into another stage. An investigation can only be administratively closed if all allegations have a disposition of administrative closure. A completed investigation can include more than one alleged victim. Completed investigations do not include any Alternative Response cases. A description of Alternative Response and how it differs from a traditional investigation is in the glossary. FOOTNOTES An investigation represents a report of abuse or neglect and can involve multiple children. The data on completed investigations does not include investigative stages that were administratively closed or merged into another investigation.
