    Description

This study includes the federal graduation rate for all NCAA member institutions who participated in Division I or Division II sports. It also describes the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for all Division I institutions and the Academic Success Rate (ASR) of all Division II institutions. The rates included in this study are based on championship sport student-athletes who first began their full-time postsecondary education in academic years 1995-96 through 2008-09.Each cohort was tracked for 6 years for college completion. For example, the graduation status for the latest cohort (2008-09 cohort) was tracked through the spring of 2014. At their core, all three measures are based on a comparison of the number of students who entered a college or university in a given year and the number of those who graduated within six years of their initial enrollment, though each measure has a slightly different cohort definition. Federal graduation rates are based on the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System Graduation Rates (IPEDS-GRS) which is defined as a six-year proportion of those student-athletes who graduated versus those who entered an institution on institutional aid. Federal graduation rates are included for both an institution's student-athletes and its general student body. In addition to the student-athlete data in the graduation-rates data, the Division I Graduation Success Rate (GSR) accounts for student-athletes who transfer into an institution while discounting student-athletes who separate from the institution and would have been academically eligible to compete had they returned. The definition of the Division II Academic Success Rate (ASR) cohort is identical to that of the GSR with the exception that it also includes freshmen who did not receive athletics aid, but did participate in athletics. Description

Abstract (en): The Recent College Graduates (RCG) survey estimates the potential supply of newly qualified teachers in the United States and explores the immediate post-degree employment and education experiences of individuals obtaining bachelor's or master's degrees from American colleges and universities. The RCG survey, which focuses heavily, but not exclusively, on those graduates qualified to teach at the elementary and secondary levels, is designed to meet the following objectives: (1) to determine how many graduates become eligible or qualified to teach for the first time and how many are employed as teachers in the year following graduation, by teaching field, (2) to examine the relationships among courses taken, student achievement, and occupational outcomes, and (3) to monitor unemployment rates and average salaries of graduates by field of study. The RCG survey collects information on education and employment of all graduates (date of graduation, field of study, whether newly qualified to teach, further enrollment, financial aid, employment status, and teacher employment characteristics) as well as standard demographic characteristics such as earnings, age, marital status, sex, and race/ethnicity. ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection: Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.. Students within one year of attaining a bachelor's or a master's degree from an American college or university. A two-stage stratified sampling approach was employed. The first stage consisted of drawing a sample of bachelor's and master's degree-granting institutions from Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS)/Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) completions files. Institutions were stratified by control (public or private), by region, and by the proportion of degrees awarded in the field of education (over or under a specified number). Within each of these strata, institutions were selected according to size (size being measured by the sum of bachelor's and master's degrees awarded that year). The second stage consisted of the selection of a core sample of graduates (bachelor's and master's degree recipients) who received their degrees from the sampled institutions during the 1976-1977 academic year. Sampling rates of graduates differed by major field of study. The institution sample consisted of 300 institutions of which 30 were Historically Black Colleges (HBCs). The graduate sample was stratified by degree received and major field of study (vocational education, special education, other education, and noneducation). Data are representative at the national level. 2001-01-05 SAS and SPSS data definition statements have been created for this collection. Description

The NCES locale framework classifies all territory in the U.S. into four types of areas -- City, Suburban, Town, and Rural. Each area is divided into three subtypes based on population size (in the case of City and Suburban assignments) and proximity to urban areas (in the case of Town and Rural assignments). The classifications PDF File (318 KB) rely on standard urban and rural designations defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, and each type of locale is either urban or rural in its entirety. The NCES locales can be fully collapsed into a basic urban/rural dichotomy, or expanded into a more detailed collection of twelve distinct categories. NCES provides a locale assignment for each institution in its administrative data collections (Common Core of Data (CCD), Integrated Post-secondary Education Data Set (IPEDS), and the Private School Survey (PSS)), and locale assignments are included as an indicator in most NCES school-based sample surveys.

    Description

This is a diachronic corpus of mission statements, philosophy statements, and purpose statements for community colleges in North Carolina and Florida. Texts date from the mid-1960s to 2020. Texts are indexed to IPEDS unit id. Texts for some years are missing. "OTM" means other than mission (which is typically a statement of purpose but may include statement of goals). Data were retrieved from archived catalogs and archived websites (e.g., Wayback Machine). The highest level of heading was used. For example, if a college published a statement of mission and a statement of purpose, the statement with the most prominent (typically the first) heading was used.
