Eight out of every 10 women in Morocco has been already subjected to at least one act of violence in their life. In the 12 months preceding the survey done in 2019, 57 percent of females aged 15 to 74 years were victims of violence in the country. Furthermore, women between the ages of 15 and 19 years were the most affected (71 percent), followed by those aged 25 to 29 years (68 percent). Overall, single and divorced women constitute the most vulnerable social group compared to widows and married women.
Close to half (47.5 percent) of the Moroccan female population aged between 15 and 74 years were subjected to psychological violence in the 12 months preceding the survey done in 2019. Considering 13.4 million individuals integrate this population group, approximately 6.4 million Moroccan women suffered psychological abuse. This was the predominant form of violence committed against women in the country. Physical violence affected 12.9 percent of females, while electronic violence reached 13.8 percent.
