Key information about Japan Exchange Rate against USD
The amount of Japanese yen that could be bought with USD kept increasing since September 2020. As of October 15, 2025, the exchange rate reached approximately 151.73 Japanese yen. The average (standardized) measure is based on the calculation of many observations throughout the period in question. It is therefore different from an annual measure at a point, which reflects concrete values as of the end of the year.
A graphic that displays the dollar performance against other currencies reveals that economic developments had mixed results on currency exchanges. The third quarter of 2023 marked a period of disinflation in the euro area, while China's projected growth was projected to go up. The United States economy was said to have a relatively strong performance in Q3 2023, although growing capital market interest rate and the resumption of student loan repayments might dampen this growth at the end of 2023. A relatively weak Japanese yen Q3 2023 saw pressure from investors towards Japanese authorities on how they would respond to the situation surrounding the Japanese yen. The USD/JPY rate was close to ***, whereas analysts suspected it should be around ** given the country's purchase power parity. The main reason for this disparity is said to be the differences in central bank interest rates between the United States, the euro area, and Japan. Any future aggressive changes from, especially the U.S. Fed might lower those differences. Financial markets responded somewhat disappoint when Japan did not announce major plans to tackle the situation. Potential rent decreases in 2024 Central bank rates peak in 2023, although it is expected that some of these will decline in early 2024. That said, analysts expect overall policies will remain restrictive. For example, the Bank of England's interest rate remained unchanged at **** percent in Q3 2023. It is believed the United Kingdom's central bank will ease its interest rate in 2024 but less than either the U.S. Fed or the European Central Bank. This should be a positive development for the pound compared to either the euro or the dollar.

The Japan shampoo market size was valued at USD 2.42 Billion in 2024. The industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.20% during the forecast period of 2025-2034 to reach a valuation of USD 3.65 Billion by 2034.
The growing trend towards personalised hair care solutions is gaining momentum in Japan. Consumers are seeking shampoos tailored to their specific hair types and concerns, such as dryness, dandruff, or color-treated hair. The strong preference for premium, functional, and aesthetically appealing products has bolstered the need for advanced research and development. In January 2023, a study from the Kaoâs Analytical Science Research Laboratories and Hair Care Products Research Laboratories showed that UV rays were closely related to frizzy hair occurring on the headâs outer layer.
Consumers are increasingly aware of the harmful effects of chemicals like parabens and sulfates in shampoos. This awareness has led to a surge in demand for natural and organic hair care products. In April 2024, Japanese confectionery firm Shinkinedoâs hair care portfolio, derived from upcycled chestnut skin, began its sales to 14 countries across the world through Amazon. Brands are also responding by launching products that emphasize natural ingredients and eco-friendly packaging. This shift aligns with the growing consumer preference for health-conscious and sustainable products.
The influence of Korean beauty (K-beauty) trends remains strong in Japan shampoo market, particularly in multi-step hair care routines and specialized treatments. In March 2025, e-commerce platform Qoo10 Japan announced plans of fostering 20 K-beauty brands valued at 100 billion yen as well 100 brands worth 10 billion yen via partnership with Koreaâs leading cosmetics firm Cosmax. Further, consumers are adopting hair care routines inspired by these trends, which emphasise multi-step processes and specialised products. Concurrently, Japanese consumers continue investing in premium shampoos that offer superior formulations and targeted benefits, emphasizing ingredients like rice bran oil and fermented extracts known for enhancing hair health.

This dataset contains news headlines relevant to key forex pairs: AUDUSD, EURCHF, EURUSD, GBPUSD, and USDJPY. The data was extracted from reputable platforms Forex Live and FXstreet over a period of 86 days, from January to May 2023. The dataset comprises 2,291 unique news headlines. Each headline includes an associated forex pair, timestamp, source, author, URL, and the corresponding article text. Data was collected using web scraping techniques executed via a custom service on a virtual machine. This service periodically retrieves the latest news for a specified forex pair (ticker) from each platform, parsing all available information. The collected data is then processed to extract details such as the article's timestamp, author, and URL. The URL is further used to retrieve the full text of each article. This data acquisition process repeats approximately every 15 minutes.
To ensure the reliability of the dataset, we manually annotated each headline for sentiment. Instead of solely focusing on the textual content, we ascertained sentiment based on the potential short-term impact of the headline on its corresponding forex pair. This method recognizes the currency market's acute sensitivity to economic news, which significantly influences many trading strategies. As such, this dataset could serve as an invaluable resource for fine-tuning sentiment analysis models in the financial realm.
We used three categories for annotation: 'positive', 'negative', and 'neutral', which correspond to bullish, bearish, and hold sentiments, respectively, for the forex pair linked to each headline. The following Table provides examples of annotated headlines along with brief explanations of the assigned sentiment.

AUDUSD

RBA Governor Loweâs Testimony High inflation is damaging and corrosive

Positive

Moreover, the dataset includes two columns with the predicted sentiment class and score as predicted by the FinBERT model. Specifically, the FinBERT model outputs a set of probabilities for each sentiment class (positive, negative, and neutral), representing the model's confidence in associating the input headline with each sentiment category. These probabilities are used to determine the predicted class and a sentiment score for each headline. The sentiment score is computed by subtracting the negative class probability from the positive one.

The annual expenditure of businesses on influencer marketing in Japan was projected to amount to ** billion Japanese yen in 2024. It was expected that the market would grow further and reach a value of more than *** billion yen by 2029. Advertising and social media in Japan Japan is home to a large advertising market, which is considered to be one of the most creative worldwide. In recent years, online advertising has become more and more important, while many traditional media increasingly struggle to generate advertising revenues. This shift from traditional to digital media was accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led people to spend more time inside their own homes and increased the demand for digital entertainment. Social media plays an increasingly important role for advertising not only because social media platforms offer an opportunity to connect with other people, but also because they are frequently used to look up information. Among social advertising expenditures, regular social networking services as well as video sharing platforms constitute the largest ad categories. Social media marketing Unlike advertising, which refers to the process of making a product or service known to potential customers, marketing usually involves further aspects that are directly related to the dissemination of advertisements, such as the research and analysis necessary for the design and creation of ads. Influencer marketing is part of the larger social media marketing market, which is expected to exhibit strong growth in the coming years. As a breakdown of this market shows, it consists of social media advertising, influencer marketing, support for the operation of social media accounts, expenses for analytics tools, as well as campaign planning and consulting. While analytics tools and campaign planning and consulting make up comparatively small shares of the market, they are indispensable aspects with regard to choosing the right platform and advertising strategy. Within the Japanese influencer market, YouTube, Instagram, X (previously known as Twitter), and Tiktok represent the major platforms.
The media content market in Japan was valued at 12.6 trillion Japanese yen in 2023. The market slightly increased compared to the previous year. Segments of the media content market The media content market consists of the three segments video-based, audio-based, and text-based content. A comparison of the segments shows that video-based content makes up the largest part of the market in Japan, followed by text-based content. Video-based content includes, among others, movies, game software, and terrestrial TV programs, while audio-based content mainly includes music and radio programs. Text-based content includes products like newspapers, comics, magazines, and books. According to a breakdown of the market by medium, terrestrial television TV programs are the largest medium in Japan. The media content market also includes the online media content market, which accounted for more than 48 percent of the media content market size in 2023. Advertising in Japan Japanâs media industry exists alongside a highly creative advertising industry. The total advertising expenditure in Japan amounts to several trillion yen on a yearly basis, making it one of the largest advertising markets worldwide. Within Japan, the internet is the largest advertising medium. After several years of strong growth, it passed the threshold of two trillion yen in 2019, overtaking television as the leading advertising medium for the first time during that year. While many traditional media face a long-term decline in advertising spending, the internet greatly contributed to the growth of the advertising market observed throughout most of the 2010s. Traditional media companies, such as radio and television broadcasters, increasingly manage to tap into the growing online advertising market by positioning themselves as carriers of online advertisements.
The user expenditure on online dating and matchmaking services in Japan was estimated at **** billion Japanese yen in 2023. The market exhibited a strong growth in 2020 and 2021, which was partly a result of the decrease in offline encounters during the COVID pandemic. It was expected that the market would continue to grow at a lower pace in the coming years and reach a size of ** billion yen by 2028.
Well-known services in Japan
Currently there are a high number of online dating and matchmaking services available in Japan. With the increasing adoption of smartphones, several dating and matchmaking apps emerged during the *****. Some of the more well-known apps include Pairs, which launched in 2012, Tapple, which was released in 2014, and With, which started in 2015. A ranking of the leading dating apps based on app revenue shows that Tinder, which entered the Japanese market in 2013, is the most successful foreign app in this area. Next to an increasing adoption, advertisements and appearances in various media also played a role in raising the awareness of such services in Japan.
Demographic factors
Japan has an increasing number of single-person households as well as an increasing share of people who remain unmarried by the age of 50, which indicates that there is a growing pool of potential customers for online dating and matchmaking apps. Since these services allow for a more convenient and time-effective way to find a partner, they can be especially attractive for people who lack time or feel that love life is bothersome. As survey data shows, these are some of the most common reasons why young singles are not proactive about their love life. Some services, such as Omiai, also cooperate with local municipalities in hosting matchmaking events and encouraging couples to move to rural areas, which can help in alleviating the depopulation of such areas.
The character business market in Japan was valued at 2.77 trillion Japanese yen in fiscal year 2024. Except for fiscal year 2020, during which the market was negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, it has grown steadily in recent years. The market size was expected to reach 2.85 trillion yen by fiscal year 2025. Merchandising and licensing The character business can be divided into merchandising and licensing. Merchandising comprises many different types of goods, such as toys, accessories, snacks, clothing, and stationery. Licensing, on the other hand, makes it possible for companies to use characters in other forms of representation, such as publications or advertisements. This also includes musical theater productions, which have become increasingly popular in Japan in recent years. The anime-related live entertainment market, for instance, which includes experiences such as live performances, events, exhibitions, musicals, and cafés, has shown strong growth since the mid-2010s, impeded only temporarily by the COVID-19 pandemic. Fictional characters in Japanese society There are many different types of fictional characters that enjoy popularity in Japan. While many originated in the media industry, such as anime, manga, and video game characters, others were created from the outset for marketing purposes. This includes company mascots, which can help to increase brand recognition. Famous Japanese company mascots include Peko-chan and Poko-chan of the confectionery manufacturer Fujiya, Gachapin and Mukku of Fuji TV, and Chiko-chan of the public broadcaster NHK. From 2010 to 2020, an annual contest called Yuru-chara Grand Prix offered local characters of prefectures and municipalities as well as mascots of companies and organizations the opportunity to compete against each other for public votes and recognition. One of the most famous local characters is Kumamon, the mascot of Kumamoto Prefecture and winner of the 2011 competition.
This dataset contains items listed and sold on Mercari Japanese website offering a unique glimpse into the world of e-commerce on the website.
