Data is updated on a weekly basis from assessor tax parcel information. Where there are several different owners on an individual parcel, multiple parcels polygons will exist since parcel to ownership is not a one to one relationship. The source for this layer is a web service (named "Parcels") hosted on the county's server and is updated daily. This layer is being used on the Jackson County Open Data site. The parcel lines reflected in this layer are for tax purposes only and may not reflect actual ground conditions. They are not a substitute for a professional land survey.

This data set is intended for use as a reference map layer for GIS maps and applications. Tax codes are used to calculate the assessor's taxing rate on a specific parcel based on the taxing districts that represent it. In GIS, this dataset is used to create Fire District boundaries, School District boundaries, and City Limits. These data are continually being updated by County Cartography.

Oregon Administrative Rule 150-308.215 contains the basic property class codes that the Assessor’s Office must use to classify property. Using ArcPRO, the repair geometry tool was used, followed by the feature to point tool. All centroids were created within the polygon's boundary even if the center of the irregular polygon was outside its boundary. The GIS linework and related attributions for the statewide parcel map are updated annually by the Department every August.
