The global HNB (Heat-Not-Burn) cartridge market is experiencing robust growth, driven by the increasing preference for reduced-risk tobacco products and stringent regulations on conventional cigarettes. While precise market sizing data is unavailable, considering a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) and referencing publicly available financial reports from major players like Philip Morris International (PMI) and Japan Tobacco (JT), a reasonable estimation places the 2025 market value at approximately $5 billion. This substantial figure reflects significant investment in product development, marketing, and expansion into new markets by key industry players. The market is segmented by application (wholesale, retail) and type (slurry, paper-making, others), with the slurry method currently dominating due to its efficiency and widespread adoption. Growth is further fueled by technological advancements in cartridge design leading to improved taste and user experience, alongside aggressive marketing campaigns targeting both existing smokers and younger demographics. Geographic expansion into emerging markets across Asia-Pacific and Middle East & Africa presents substantial untapped potential, although regulatory hurdles and varying consumer preferences pose challenges. The competitive landscape is marked by both established tobacco giants and innovative emerging companies like Smoore and Shenzhen First Union Technology, resulting in a dynamic and rapidly evolving market. Despite the positive growth trajectory, several restraints exist. These include concerns regarding the long-term health effects of HNB products, increasing taxation and regulatory scrutiny across different regions, and the intense competition among established and new market entrants. Furthermore, the environmental impact of cartridge disposal remains a crucial concern, likely necessitating innovation in sustainable materials and recycling initiatives. Despite these challenges, the overall forecast for the HNB cartridge market remains bullish, projecting a substantial rise throughout the forecast period (2025-2033) as the industry continues to adapt and refine its offerings to meet evolving consumer demands and regulatory landscapes. The market's growth hinges on effectively addressing consumer concerns and innovating towards a more sustainable future.

BackgroundSarcopenia is defined as a low skeletal muscle volume. Recent studies have reported that sarcopenia is associated with a poor prognosis in various cancers. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the correlation between the psoas muscle volume and recurrence-free survival in patients with localized clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).MethodsA total of 316 male patients with localized ccRCC who underwent radical nephrectomy at Yokohama City University Hospital (Yokohama, JAPAN) and Kanagawa Cancer Center (Yokohama, JAPAN) between 2002 and 2018 were enrolled in this study. The psoas muscle index (PMI) was calculated by normalizing the psoas muscle area on the contralateral side of the tumor on axial CT, which was calculated at the level of L4 (mm2) divided by the square of the body height (m2). We divided patients into two groups based on the median PMI (409.64mm2/m2).ResultsThe lower PMI group showed poorer recurrence-free survival (RFS) than the higher PMI group (p = 0.030). Regarding 5-year RFS, a lower PMI was a significant predictor of recurrence (p = 0.022, hazard ratio (HR): 2.306) and a multivariate analysis revealed that a lower PMI (4 cm (p = 0.044, HR: 2.341), and pathological stage >2 (p
