In 2023, the number of cleared cases for violations of the anti-prostitution law amounted to *** cases in the Japanese sex industry. The Japanese Prostitution Prevention Law was enacted in 1956 to prohibit sexual intercourse in exchange for payment. While prostitution is officially illegal in Japan, the domestic adult entertainment industry took advantage of legal loopholes to work around this ban by, for example, offering non-coital services or sexual acts not legally defined as "intercourse." Businesses falling under the category of adult entertainment include, among others, adult-only bathhouses, strip clubs, massage services, love hotels as well as video- and phone-based services.

Questions on family issues covered topics such as when divorce was the best course of action for those involved, the frequency that families dined together and performed household chores, the health of respondents' marriages, the roles of spouses within marriage, whether one or both spouses should change their surnames, the ideal number of children a couple should have, whether there was a sex preference for children, whether the respondents had pets and the benefits of pet ownership, where respondents would like to be buried, and whether in some cases, physical punishment of children by parents or teachers was acceptable. Questions on finances included items on the state of respondents' finances during the last few years, how their family's income compared to other Japanese families, how their family's income compared to that of Japanese families 15 years ago, whether the income tax rate was high, the amount of pension respondents would receive upon retirement, how respondents' families organized their finances, and the ease of improving one's standard of living in Japan. Political questions addressed whether the government should be responsible for the livelihood and medical care of the elderly, whether the government was usurping individual responsibilities, whether respondents would vote for a woman gubernatorial candidate, government spending, respondents' commitment and sense of belonging to the political process, and whether one of the government's duties was to reduce family income disparities. Also, respondents were asked to rate their political views on a scale from Conservative (1) to Progressive (5). In terms of health, information was solicited on the health of respondents and their spouses, whether a doctor should be able to painlessly end a patient's life if the patient's condition was terminal, whether respondents had signed organ donation cards, and the frequency of smoking, alcohol consumption, and sexual relations in the last 12 months. Quality of life questions addressed the frequency with which respondents read the newspaper, the average number of books respondents read per month, the average number of hours respondents watched television, whether respondents attended any job- or hobby-related classes, the amount of satisfaction respondents received from life, the frequency respondents went on trips lasting at least two days, and how often respondents participated in leisure activities like fishing, jogging, mahjong, etc. Respondents were asked to give their opinions concerning a married person having sexual relations with someone other than their spouse, sexual relations between two adults of the same sex, whether pornography leads to the breaking down of morals, whether the client, the teen, both, or neither party was responsible for teen prostitution, and whether pornography should be banned completely, not available to anyone under 18, or not be regulated at all. Information gathered on religion included whether respondents believed in life after death and whether they and/or their spouses followed a religion and the extent of their participation. Respondents were polled for information regarding their social status, whether it was desirable for three generations of family to share a home, whether men should learn to cook and care for themselves, the trustworthiness of most people, the general motivations of others, whether respondents were members of any groups like religious, trade, or social service organizations, and to what degree respondents utilized technology like computers, e-mail, and the Internet to perform daily life tasks. Description

The Study’s Subject: The German Statistical Office of the German Empire compiled a comparative representation of different countrie’s crime statistics. In this context the statistical office was faced with the problem of diverging methodologies and classifications of the countrie’s crime statistics data collections. After World War 1 the “International Statistic Institute (ISI)” and the “International Penal Law and Prison Commission” (IPPC) ) resumed their research activities in the fields of criminal statistics in international comparison. In this context the Statistical Office of the German Empire carried out an investigation of 33 european and non-european countries with the aim to work out a comparative compilation of various criminalstatistical classifications. Is was established that at the time of preparation a comparison of different classifications a comparable international data compilation could not be gathered due to significant differences between the classifications. Finally from the 33 countries it could be compiled time series on criminal statisics only for a small selection of countries. The reason for this situation was the lack of data material for many countries. Therefore, the development of crime could be presented in form of time series for the following countries: - Austria- England and Wales- France- German Empire- Sweden- Canada- Japan In terms of the crime statistical objective data on lawsuit processes (for example the number of criminal proceedings) has not been incorporated. Furthermore, no data on the military criminal justice are included in the data compilation. The following information, which was available in the statistics, has been taken from the statistics for the data compilation: Information on the persons, who has been accused or convicted: Number of persons totally, by gender, teenagers or adults.Information on the offences the persons were accused for: accused or convicted by groups of offences or single selected offences. The sentences imposed as results of lawsuit processes are not included in this data compilation. Description

The number of cleared cybercrime cases in Japan amounted to ****** in 2024. It has consistently increased in recent years. Most common type of cleared cybercrimes are frauds A breakdown of cleared cybercrime cases shows that fraud was the most common type of cleared cybercrime, followed by violations of the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds and violations of the law against child pornography. The latter continues to be a problem despite a revision of the legislation in 2014 following international concern about the sexual exploitation of children in Japan. Crimes involving financial damages repeatedly made the headlines in Japanese news outlets in recent years. The number of online banking frauds surged in 2023, which led to an increase in the amount of money lost through online banking frauds. Improving Japan’s cybersecurity strategy Preventing damages by cyberattacks has become more and more important as citizens and the economy increasingly rely on online networks and services. As Japan was elected host of the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2013 and the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CSTI) introduced the vision of an increasingly interconnected “Society 5.0” in 2016, there was a strong motivation to improve the country’s cybersecurity strategy. Among other things, Japan enacted the Basic Act on Cybersecurity and established the Cybersecurity Strategic Headquarters in 2014. In 2022, a new bureau featuring a special investigative team dedicated to cybercrimes was established at the National Police Agency. The bureau centralizes cybercrime-related tasks and features a special investigative team that handles threats such as attacks on local governments and critical infrastructure.
