GENERAL NOTES : The Territorial Population and Employment Data Matrix (TPEDM) is compiled by the Planning Department and updated regularly to tie in with the updated population projections of the Population Census. It provides estimated data on territorial distributions of population and employment in the future years for use as reference materials by government departments and stakeholders involved in the planning of developments and services. The 2021-based TPEDM was completed in 2024 by adopting the Census and Statistics Department's projections of territorial population released in August 2023 as the control totals. It includes the population and employment estimates for the base year (i.e. 2021) and the projections for two future years (i.e. 2026 and 2031). The population and employment data is presented in 18 District Council Districts and 5 Sub-regions as shown on Map 1 and Map 2. TPEDM was compiled using different assumptions regarding future territorial population, employment structure, economic growth as well as the planned and latest known development proposals of relevant Government departments, quasi-government bodies and the private sector. The assumptions on future development may be subject to change after the compilation. SPECIAL NOTES : Population Coverage The population of 2021-based TPEDM refers to land-based Hong Kong Resident Population (HKRP). HKRP comprises “Usual Residents” and “Mobile Residents”, and foreign domestic helpers are included. (a) “Usual Residents” refer to two categories of people: (i) Hong Kong Permanent Residents who have stayed in Hong Kong for at least 3 months during the 6 months before or for at least 3 months during the 6 months after the reference time-point, regardless of whether they are in Hong Kong or not at the reference time-point; and (ii) Hong Kong Non-permanent Residents who are in Hong Kong at the reference time-point. (b) For those Hong Kong Permanent Residents who are not “Usual Residents”, they are classified as “Mobile Residents” if they have stayed in Hong Kong for at least 1 month but less than 3 months during the 6 months before or for at least 1 month but less than 3 months during the 6 months after the reference time-point, regardless of whether they are in Hong Kong or not at the reference time-point. Geographical distribution of population is generally made on the basis of place of residence. Accordingly, population of a particular area is made up of persons who live there. Employment Coverage Employment refers to the total number of full or part time jobs with establishments in Hong Kong. Positions taken up by working proprietors, self-employed, temporary employees as well as foreign domestic helpers are included. Jobs with establishments outside Hong Kong are excluded. Employment is measured by the number of jobs held. Thus, a person holding more than one job will be counted separately. On the other hand, job vacancies are excluded. Geographical distribution of employment is generally made on the basis of place of jobs. Accordingly, employment of a particular area is made up of number of jobs there. Geographical Demarcation Systems This version of 2021-based TPEDM presents estimates and projections of population and employment distribution at two levels of a geographical demarcation system, namely District Council District (DCD) and Sub-region. District Council District (DCD)[1] At the DCD level, the data are grouped and presented in respect of 18 DCDs boundaries (see Map 1) to facilitate population and employment data extraction for land use and public facilities planning in District Council level. [1] The Loop Area is currently not included in a DCD, its figures are included in Yuen Long District. Sub-region The whole territory of Hong Kong can also be divided into five Sub-regions (see Map 2), namely Metro Area, Northwest New Territories (NWNT), Northeast New Territories (NENT), Southeast New Territories (SENT) and Southwest New Territories (SWNT). The multiple file formats are available for dataset download in API. DISCLAIMER Many detailed working assumptions are involved in compiling the 2021-based TPEDM, changes to which may yield very different results. Although the Planning Department has endeavoured to adopt the best assumptions and data sources available at the time of producing the 2021-based TPEDM, persons making reference to the data therein should decide on the applicability of the data to any specific purpose or use. Abstract

The 2021 NPHC is tthe first census conducted under the federal structure of Nepal. The main census enumeration was originally scheduled to take place over 15 days- from June 8 to 22, 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the enumeration was postponed for five months. Once the impact of the pandemic subsided, the enumeration was carried out according to a new work plan for a 15 dya period from November 11 to 25, 2021.

This report contains statistical tables at the national, provincial, district and municipal levels, derived from the topics covered in the census questionaires. The work of the analyzing the data in detail is still in progress. The report provides insights into the different aspects of the census operation, including its procedure, concepts, methodology, quality control, logistics, communication, data processing, challenges faced, and other management aspects.

This census slightly differs from the previous censuses mainly due to the following activities: i. three modes of data collection (CAPI, PAPI and e-census); ii. a full count of all questions instead of sampling for certain questions, as was done in the previous two censuses, iii. collaboration with Ministry of Health and Population to ascertain the likely maternal mortality cases reported in the census by skilled health personnel; iv. data processing within its premises; v. recuitment of fresh youths as supervisor and enumerators; and vi. using school teachers as master trainers, especially for the local level training of enumerators.

The objectives of the 2021 Population Census were:

a) to develop a set of benchmark data for different purposes. b) to provide distribution of population by demographic, social and economic characteristics. c) to provide data for small administrative areas of the country on population and housing characteristics. d) to provide reliable frames for different types of sample surveys. e) to provide many demographic indicators like birth rates, death rates and migration rates. f) to project population for the coming years.

The total population of Nepal, as of the census day (25 November 2021) is 29,164,578, of which the number of males is 14,253,551 (48.87 %) and the number of females is 14,911,027 (51.13 %). Accordingly, the sex ratio is 95.59 males per 100 females. Annual average population growth rate is 0.92 percent in 2021.

In this census three main questionnaires were developed for data collection. The first was the Listing Form deveoped mainly for capturing the basic household informatioin in each Enumeration area of the whole country. For the first time, the NPHC, 2021 brougt a Community Questionnaire aiming at capturing the socio-economic and demographic characteristics of the Wards (the lowest administrative division under Rural/Urban Municipalities). The Community Questionnaire contains 6 Chapters. The information derived from community questionnaire is expected to validate (cross checks) certain information collected from main questionnaire.

It is noteworty that the digital version of questionnare was applied in collecting data within the selected municipalities of Kathmandu Valley. Enumerators mobilized in Kathmandu Valley were well trained to use tablets. Besides, online mode of data collection was adpoted for all the Nepalese Diplomatic Agencies located abroad.

Cleaning operations

For the concistency of data required logics were set in the data entry programme. For the processing and analysis of data SPSS and STATA programme were employed.

The data present the selection of Census topics and breakdowns of the 2021 EU population and housing census, as defined by Regulation (EC) 763/2008 and its three implementing regulations for the 2021 round of censuses: Regulation (EU) 2017/543; Regulation (EU) 2017/712 and Regulation (EU) 2017/881.

The 2021 data presented in the tables for European Union Member States (27) and EFTA countries (4) are taken from a broader collection of data composed of 119 hypercubes (organized into 41 groups) mandated by Annex I to the Regulation (EU) 2017/712. These hypercubes provide a highly detailed dataset, aligning with the key census features of individual enumeration, simultaneity, universality, availability of small-area data, and defined periodicity. This structure allows detailed cross-tabulation of demographic, socioeconomic, and housing characteristics across various geographic levels (National, NUTS 1, NUTS 2 and NUTS 3).

The census data presented here adhere to the same definitions, technical specifications, and breakdowns as the detailed hypercubes, which can be accessed via the Eurostat Census Hub.

The data tables are structured based on a 2021 Census Hub data topic design, where each table represents a multidimensional breakdown of census data.

The 2021 Census data offer a statistical overview of population, households, families, and dwellings. Datasets are organized around three core areas:

1.Population Characteristics:

Comprehensive demographic details, including sex, age, marital status, and family structures.

Socioeconomic indicators such as education, employment, occupation, and activity status.

Migration-related characteristics, covering citizenship, country of birth, year of arrival, and previous residence. Geographical breakdowns are offered at NUTS 2 in 23 tables and NUTS 3 levels in 12 tables.

2.Families and Households:

Household composition and family structures.

Features family nucleus size, tenure status, and household composition and size.

These tables are primarily provided for NUTS 3 geographical regions in the 3 tables.

3.Dwellings:

Dwelling characteristics, including ownership status, building types, occupancy, and construction periods among others.

Geographical detail, with data split between NUTS 2 in one table and NUTS 3 in 4 tables.

The statistical data are supplemented by national metadata files that facilitate interpretation of the numerical data, including country-specific definitions, information on the data sources and on methodological issues.

Census 2021 data outlining the occupation of the last main job of those who were not employed on census day. This data is at the four-digit level of the Standard Occupational Classification.

Census 2021 occupation data for people aged 16 years and older and in employment, by age and sex, is part of The occupations and industries most dependent on older and younger workers: March 2021, a release of results from the 2021 Census for England and Wales. Figures may differ slightly in future releases because of the impact of removing rounding and applying further statistical processes.

Some shorthand may be used in this workbook. Individual estimates suppressed with "[c]" relate to statistics based on a small number of respondents (< 10). Such values have been suppressed on quality grounds and to maintain confidentiality.

Armed forces personnel and defence employees are included in the census and recorded as usually resident using the standard definitions. The instructions given to personnel on how to respond to the census mean that this group cannot be reliably identified in census data on industry and occupation. Information on the size and characteristics of the UK armed forces population is produced by the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

Census 2021 data of the industry of people’s last main job who were not employed on census day. This dataset is at the division level of the Standard Industrial Classification.

This dataset provides Census 2021 estimates that classify usual residents in England and Wales by distance travelled to work and by age. The estimates are as at Census Day, 21 March 2021.

Estimates for single year of age between ages 90 and 100+ are less reliable than other ages. Estimation and adjustment at these ages was based on the age range 90+ rather than five-year age bands. Read more about this quality notice.

Area type

Census 2021 statistics are published for a number of different geographies. These can be large, for example the whole of England, or small, for example an output area (OA), the lowest level of geography for which statistics are produced.

For higher levels of geography, more detailed statistics can be produced. When a lower level of geography is used, such as output areas (which have a minimum of 100 persons), the statistics produced have less detail. This is to protect the confidentiality of people and ensure that individuals or their characteristics cannot be identified.

Lower tier local authorities

Lower tier local authorities provide a range of local services. There are 309 lower tier local authorities in England made up of 181 non-metropolitan districts, 59 unitary authorities, 36 metropolitan districts and 33 London boroughs (including City of London). In Wales there are 22 local authorities made up of 22 unitary authorities.

Census 2021 statistics are published for the whole of England and Wales. However, data is available by:

Distance travelled to work

The distance, in kilometres, between a person's residential postcode and their workplace postcode measured in a straight line. A distance travelled of 0.1km indicates that the workplace postcode is the same as the residential postcode. Distances over 1200km are treated as invalid, and an imputed or estimated value is added.

“Work mainly at or from home” is made up of those that ticked either the "Mainly work at or from home" box for the address of workplace question, or the “Work mainly at or from home” box for the method of travel to work question.

Distance is calculated as the straight line distance between the enumeration postcode and the workplace postcode.

Combine this variable with “Economic activity status” to identify those in employment at the time of the census.

Age

A person’s age on Census Day, 21 March 2021 in England and Wales. Infants aged under 1 year are classified as 0 years of age.

Labour force status refers to whether a person was employed, unemployed or not in the labour force during the reference period. Not in the labour force refers to persons who were neither employed nor unemployed during the reference period. This includes persons who, during the reference period were either unable to work or unavailable for work. It also includes persons who were without work and who had neither actively looked for work in the past four weeks nor had a job to start within four weeks of the reference period.

Employment status refers to the employment status of a person during the period of Sunday, May 2 to Saturday, May 8, 2021. An employed person is one who did any work at all at a job or business, that is, paid work in the context of an employer-employee relationship, or self-employment. This category excludes persons not at work because they were on layoff or between casual jobs, and those who did not then have a job (even if they had a job to start at a future date). While an unemployed person is one who was without paid work or without self-employment work and was available for work. An unemployed person either: had actively looked for paid work in the past four weeks; was on temporary lay-off and expected to return to his or her job; or had definite arrangements to start a new job in four weeks or less.

Labour force participation rate refers to the total labour force in that group, expressed as a percentage of the total population in that group.

Industry refers to the general nature of the business carried out in the establishment where the person worked. The industry data are produced according to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).

Occupation refers to the kind of work performed in a job, a job being all the tasks carried out by a particular worker to complete their duties. An occupation is a set of jobs that are sufficiently similar in work performed. The occupation data are produced according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021.

This is a one-time load of Statistics Canada federal census data from 2021 applied to the Communities, Wards, and City geographical boundaries current as of 2022 (so they will likely not match the current year's boundaries).
