An academic journal or research journal is a periodical publication in which research articles relating to a particular academic discipline is published, according to Wikipedia. Currently, there are more than 25,000 peer-reviewed journals that are indexed in citation index databases such as Scopus and Web of Science. These indexes are ranked on the basis of various metrics such as CiteScore, H-index, etc. The metrics are calculated from yearly citation data of the journal. A lot of efforts are given to make a metric that reflects the journal's quality.
This is a comprehensive dataset on the academic journals coving their metadata information as well as citation, metrics, and ranking information. Detailed data on their subject area is also given in this dataset. The dataset is collected from the following indexing databases: - Scimago Journal Ranking - Scopus - Web of Science Master Journal List

We conducted a quantitative evaluation of 17 scientific journals published by the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), assessing four dimensions: editorial policies and management, content quality, internationalization, and digital visibility. Our analysis found that content quality represents the strongest aspect of the journals, with articles meeting international citation standards and demonstrating academic rigor. However, significant weaknesses were identified in editorial processes, ethical transparency, digital preservation, international participation, and website functionality. These deficiencies, largely dependent on institutional infrastructure and support, limit the journals’ visibility and inclusion in major indexing databases. The findings indicate that editorial improvement cannot rely solely on journal editors; advancing toward international indexing standards requires an integrated institutional strategy that strengthens editorial management and enhances the journals’ presence in recognized academic databases.

TwitterThis table shows the list of journals selected in the research entitled "Citation patterns, the Matilda effect and gender bias in communication & media Studies scientific output in Ibero-America (1980-2022)". This article analyses diachronically the role of women in the field of communication & media Studies in Ibero-America by studying the presence or absence of women in the bibliography of a selection of articles taken from 60 communication academic journals in nine countries (Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru) between 1980 and 2022. This study measures the degree of visibility of female scientists and their contribution and compares it statistically to that of their male counterparts by quantifying from a gender perspective the citation patterns of authors of the 484 scientific articles included in the study. The findings showed that the visibility of the female researchers-authors increased over time. Furthermore, an over-citation of publications by male researchers was also found. Last, in one of the periods analysed, in the years between 1996-2010, gender homophily was found, i.e. female researchers tended to cite more women than men during this period.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Increased frequency of retractions has recently been observed, and retractions are important events that deserve scientific investigation. This study aimed to characterize cases of retraction within general and internal medicine in a high-profile database, with interest in the country of origin of the article and the impact factor (IF) of the journal in which the retraction was made. DESIGN AND SETTING: This study consisted of reviewing retraction notes in the Thomson-Reuters Web of Knowledge (WoK) indexing database, within general and internal medicine. METHODS: The retractions were classified as plagiarism/duplication, error, fraud and authorship problems and then aggregated into two categories: "plagiarism/duplication" and "others." The countries of origin of the articles were dichotomized according to the median of the indicator "citations per paper" (CPP), and the IF was dichotomized according to its median within general and internal medicine, also obtained from the WoK database. These variables were analyzed using contingency tables according to CPP (high versus low), IF (high versus low) and period (1992-2002 versus 2003-2014). The relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were estimated for plagiarism/duplication. RESULTS: A total of 86 retraction notes were identified, and retraction reasons were found for 80 of them. The probability that plagiarism/duplication was the reason for retraction was more than three times higher for the low CPP group (RR: 3.4; 95% CI: [1.9-6.2]), and similar results were seen for the IF analysis. CONCLUSION: The study identified greater incidence of plagiarism/duplication among retractions from countries with lower scientific impact.

Citation metrics are widely used and misused. We have created a publicly available database of top-cited scientists that provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator (c-score). Separate data are shown for career-long and, separately, for single recent year impact. Metrics with and without self-citations and ratio of citations to citing papers are given. Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields according to the standard Science-Metrix classification. Field- and subfield-specific percentiles are also provided for all scientists with at least 5 papers. Career-long data are updated to end-of-2022 and single recent year data pertain to citations received during calendar year 2022. The selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the sub-field. This version (6) is based on the October 1, 2023 snapshot from Scopus, updated to end of citation year 2022. This work uses Scopus data provided by Elsevier through ICSR Lab (https://www.elsevier.com/icsr/icsrlab). Calculations were performed using all Scopus author profiles as of October 1, 2023. If an author is not on the list it is simply because the composite indicator value was not high enough to appear on the list. It does not mean that the author does not do good work.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT THE DATABASE HAS BEEN PUBLISHED IN AN ARCHIVAL FORM AND WILL NOT BE CHANGED. The published version reflects Scopus author profiles at the time of calculation. We thus advise authors to ensure that their Scopus profiles are accurate. REQUESTS FOR CORRECIONS OF THE SCOPUS DATA (INCLUDING CORRECTIONS IN AFFILIATIONS) SHOULD NOT BE SENT TO US. They should be sent directly to Scopus, preferably by use of the Scopus to ORCID feedback wizard (https://orcid.scopusfeedback.com/) so that the correct data can be used in any future annual updates of the citation indicator databases.
The c-score focuses on impact (citations) rather than productivity (number of publications) and it also incorporates information on co-authorship and author positions (single, first, last author). If you have additional questions, please read the 3 associated PLoS Biology papers that explain the development, validation and use of these metrics and databases. (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.1002501, https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.3000384 and https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.3000918).
Finally, we alert users that all citation metrics have limitations and their use should be tempered and judicious. For more reading, we refer to the Leiden manifesto: https://www.nature.com/articles/520429a

Abstract Indicators of scientific production are generally used in the evaluation of the academic community. As a quality parameter, the bibliographic databases are used for the selection of the most important scientific journals, a relevant role in the evaluation process. On the other hand, when the analysis is restricted to the indexed production, there is a risk of disqualifying production in journals that are not indexed. Qualis aims to address this issue by enabling areas to value non-indexed journals, even as they do not always consider the volume of articles published in these journals. This paper presents an exploratory analysis of the dispersion of the scientific production of 260,663 researchers with doctorate level registered in the Lattes Platform. For the determination of the national panorama, we considered all the full papers they published in scientific journals between 1998 and 2016. This panorama includes analyzes divided by the researchers’ knowledge areas, the publications’ countries, as well as the indexation of the publications in the different journals. Internationalization trends were observed, as well as the importance of national journals as vehicles for the publication of a significant part of the scientific production in some areas. Additionally, we observed the limitation of studies that do not consider scientific production in non-indexed journals, or studies restricted to Scopus and/or Web of Science databases that do not consider Scientific Electronic Library Online.
