    Description

This data set was developed to provide geologic map GIS of the Coeur d'Alene 1:100,000 quadrangle for use in future spatial analysis by a variety of users. These data can be printed in a variety of ways to display various geologic features or used for digital analysis and modeling. This database is not meant to be used or displayed at any scale larger than 1:100,000 (e.g. 1:62,500 or 1:24,000).

The digital geologic map of the Coeur d'Alene 1:100,000 quadrangle was compiled from preliminary digital datasets [Athol, Coeur d'Alene, Kellogg, Kingston, Lakeview, Lane, and Spirit Lake 15-minute quadrangles] prepared by the Idaho Geological Survey from A. B. Griggs (unpublished field maps), supplemented by Griggs (1973) and by digital data from Bookstrom and others (1999) and Derkey and others (1996). The digital geologic map database can be queried in many ways to produce a variety of derivative geologic maps.

This GIS consists of two major Arc/Info data sets: one line and polygon file (cda100k) containing geologic contacts and structures (lines) and geologic map rock units (polygons), and one point file (cda100kp) containing structural data.

    Description

The data release for geologic maps of Ravalli Group and other Mesoproterozoic Belt Supergroup strata in northern Idaho and northwestern Montana is a digital, Geologic Map Schema (GeMS)-compliant version of maps published in U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Open-File Report 2001-438 (Boleneus and others, 2001). The new digital data include attribute tables and geospatial features (points, lines, and polygons) in the format that meets GeMS requirements. This data release presents the geologic maps as shown on the plates and captured in geospatial data for the published maps. The database represents the geology for the 2.7 million acre, geologically complex study area in eleven plates at a publication scale of 1:48,000, and two plates at a publication scale of 1:12,000. The maps cover primarily Sanders, Shoshone, Kootenai, and Lincoln Counties, but also include minor parts of Benewah and Bonner Counties. Geologic mapping was undertaken between 1979 and 1984 by ASARCO Inc. as part of the ...

    Description

The surficial geology, wetlands, and deepwater habitats of the Coeur d' Alene River Valley, Idaho were mapped by Arthur A. Bookstrom and Stephen E. Box (1996-1998) onto 1:24,000 scale topographic base maps (stable-base greenline mylars) for input into an Arc/Info geographic information system (GIS).

    Description

This metadata describes thirteen different geo-referenced tif images. Hand colored geological mapped data of the area in Sanders and Lincoln counties, Montana and Kootenai, Bonner, Benewah, and Shoshone counties, Idaho were converted to digital format (TIFF). These data were donated to US Geological Survey by the mineral industry. The area lies in the western part of the Belt Basin and contains metasedimentary rocks of Middle Proterozoic age. The area mainly contains rocks of the Prichard, Burke, Revett, St. Regis, Wallace, Empire and Spokane formations. The source maps were scanned on an Ideal FSC 6010 36" width color pass through scanner at 200 ppi as 8 bit indexed color or in two instances at the 24 bit color level. Images were registered and rectified to provided neatline coverages in Universal Transverse Mercator zone 11 projection using ArcView Image Analysis Extension, version 1.1. The source maps were non-published Asarco company maps representing different geographical areas. TIFF image names and their corresponding descriptions belonging to the Cabinet Mountains Reconnaissance program include: >PL1R -Geologic map, Lincoln Co., MT, >PL2R - Geology and section location of southwestern Lincoln County, >PL3AR - plate 3a, >PL3BR - plate 3b -Geologic map Sanders Co., MT and Shoshone Co., >PL4R - 1981 Cabinet Mountains Reconn. The following image name belongs to the Troy West Project: >TROYR - Troy Mine Area, Lincoln Co., MT.
