The Community Health and Equity Index was developed by Raimi + Associates to compare health conditions, vulnerabilities, and cumulative burdens across the City of Los Angeles. The Index standardizes demographic, socio-economic, health conditions, land use, transportation, food environment, crime, and pollution burden variables, and then averages them together, yielding a score on a scale of 0-100. Lower values indicate better community health.Variables used in the index include: Hardship Index, Life Expectancy, Health Variables (Heart Disease Mortality, Emergency Department Visits for Heart Attacks, Respiratory Disease Mortality, Diabetes Mortality, Stroke Mortality, Childhood Obesity, Percentage of Low Birth Weight Infants, Number of Emergency Department Visits for Asthma for Under 17 and 18+ age groups), Walkability Index, Complete Communities Index (amenities and establishments serving the community), Transportation Index, Modified Retail Food Environment Index, Crime Rate (Violent Crimes, Property Crimes), and Pollution Burden (Pollution Exposure, Environmental Effects).Variables were assigned weights and averaged together. In 2023, around ***** crimes per 100,000 inhabitants have been reported in Taiwan. The crime rate in Taiwan increased from ***** incidents per 100,000 people in the previous year. Crime in Taiwan Over the last decade, the crime rate in Taiwan dropped significantly from ***** reported incidents per 100,000 inhabitants in 2008 to only ***** in 2013. In the following years, that downtrend weakened, but figures generally kept on decreasing. Compared to other countries, these numbers are in a medium range. Reported crimes per inhabitants in the United States, for example, were more than double that of Taiwan, although the crime rates in different states in the United States varied considerably. On the contrary, the crime rate in Singapore was only half as high as in Taiwan. However, it should be kept in mind that the definition of crime, the willingness to report crimes, and accounting measures may vary in different countries. Most common crimes in Taiwan Considering different types of crimes committed in Taiwan, excluding offenses against public safety, the most common crimes were drug and theft related. In contrast, the number of cases of murder and manslaughter were relatively low and comparable to other Asia Pacific countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. This is also due to the crime-clearing rate in Taiwan having improved considerably over the years and reached **** percent in 2023.

The purpose of this pilot project was to determine if preliminary investigation report (PIR) data filed by patrol officers could be collected via laptop computers to allow the direct input of the data into the Los Angeles Police Department Crime and Arrest Database without adversely affecting the personnel taking or using the reports. This data collection addresses the following questions: (1) Did officers and supervisors prefer the automated reporting system (ARS) or the handwritten version of the PIR? (2) Did the ARS affect the job satisfaction or morale of officers and supervisors? (3) Did the ARS reduce the amount of time that patrol officers, supervisors, and clerks spent on paperwork? (4) Did the ARS affect the accuracy of information contained in the PIRs? (5) Did detectives and prosecuting attorneys find the ARS a more reliable source than handwritten PIRs? Officers and supervisors in two divisions of the Los Angeles Police Department, Wilshire and Hollywood, participated as control and experimental groups. The control group continued using handwritten ("existing") PIRs while the experimental group used the automated PIRs (ARS). The General Information Questionnaire collected information on each officer's rank, assignment, watch, gender, age, years with the Los Angeles Police Department, education, job morale, job demands, self-esteem, computer anxiety, and relationship with supervisor and other officers. The Job Performance Rating Form gathered data on work efforts, depth of job knowledge, work quality, oral and written skills, and capacity to learn. The Time Study Sheets collected data on investigation time, writing and editing time, travel time, approval and correction time, review time, errors by type, and data input time for both the handwritten and automated forms. The Evaluation of the Existing Form and the Evaluation of the Automated Form both queried respondents on ease of use, system satisfaction, and productivity loss. The ARS Use Questionnaire asked about ease of use, typing skills, computer skills, comfort with the system, satisfaction with training, and preference for the system. The Hollywood Detective Division ARS Use Questionnaire surveyed detectives on the system's ease of use, task improvement, support for continued use, and preference for the system. The PIR Content Evaluation Form collected data on quality of officers' observations, organization and writing skills, physical evidence, statements of victims, witnesses, and suspects, and offense classification. The Caplan Role Conflict and Role Ambiguity subscales were used in the design of the questionnaires.
In 2024, there were approximately 39 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in the country, a slight decrease compared to the previous year. However, the 2023 homicide rate was the highest the South American country has seen since at least 2014.
In 2023, the number of crimes committed in Singapore for every 100,000 individuals was 1,188. This was a ten-year high, and mostly due to the increase in scams and cybercrimes cases. Low crime rates in Singapore Singapore has a reputation for being one of the safest cities in the world. Violent crime in Singapore is rare – as of 2021, such crimes accounted for nine per 100 thousand population. One reason for this could be the harsh penalties for offenders, as well as a strict ban on weapons for those not in law enforcement. Singapore still carries out capital punishment for crimes such as murder and the illegal possession of firearms carry the death penalty. Increase in commercial crime The most common type of crime committed in Singapore were commercial crimes, especially scams. As Singaporeans carry out more aspects of everyday life online, so too are criminals looking to take advantage of unsuspecting victims. In 2021, scams involving e-commerce transactions were the most common of such crimes. These typically involve the fraudulent sale of products on C2C commercial sites, which are harder to track. Such scams, however, usually involve smaller amounts of money, unlike investment scams. These involve targeting individuals and tricking them into wiring large sums of money for supposed financial investments. In 2021, individuals in Singapore who fell victim to such scams were cheated out of around 191 million Singapore dollars.
The four Nordic countries Sweden, Iceland, Norway, and Denmark are between the five countries with the highest rate of reported sexual violence in Europe in 2022. More than 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants were reported in Sweden. Please note that reporting varies from country to country, and the willingness of victims to come forward can vary across regions and cultures, therefore a comparison between the countries should be taken with caution.
