Lancaster County's Fire Rescue consists of 18 volunteer fire departments and one career department, with policies and procedures implemented by the County Council appointed 19 member Fire Commission. The size and scope of the county necessitate the continued reliance on a predominant volunteer force. The career staff facilitates the training, record keeping, vehicle maintenance, state, and national incident reporting and serves as a liaison between the Fire Commission and County Government. The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division is responsible for patrolling 549 square miles and providing services and protection for the estimated 110,000 residents within the county 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. The Deputies of the Patrol Division are the most visible representatives of the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office as they patrol an estimated 85,000 miles each month. Sheriff Patrols are divided into 3 districts that separate the county. District 1 includes the northern area of the county (Indian Land/Van Wyck). District 2 is comprised of the Lancaster area. District 3 includes the southern end area of the county (Kershaw and Heath Springs). The 3 districts are divided into patrol zones. This map shows patrol zone City D-2.
The function of the Voter Registration Department is to facilitate voter registration, properly maintain voter registration records, conduct fair and impartial elections in accordance with state and federal law, and protect the integrity of the election process.The “voting or polling precincts” are areas created by the State legislature for convenient localization of polling places and which administers and counts votes therein as a local unit in all elections.. Fire planning zones represent the area served by each of the 16 Lincoln Fire & Rescue stations and rural fire districts in Lancaster County. These are the "first due" areas for the engine companies at each station, in other words the area into which each engine is ordinarily the preferred first responder. These data are maintained by Lincoln Fire & Rescue, and updated periodically to account for annexations and/or boundary changes.
