In the United States, the federal government manages approximately 28% of the land in the United States. Most federal lands are west of the Mississippi River, where almost half of the land by area is managed by the federal government. Federal lands include 193 million acres managed by the US Forest Service in 154 National Forests and 20 National Grasslands, Bureau of Land Management lands that cover 247 million acres in Alaska and the Western United States, 150 million acres managed for wildlife conservation by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, 84 million acres of National Parks and other lands managed by the National Park Service, and over 30 million acres managed by the Department of Defense. This EnviroAtlas dataset shows the acres of land enrolled in the US Department of Agriculture (USDA)'s Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). The CRP is administered by the Farm Service Agency; farmers in the program receive annual payments and establishment cost share to remove environmentally sensitive land from crop production and instead plant perennial species that provide environmental benefits. This dataset was produced by the USDA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. EnviroAtlas (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas) allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the contiguous United States. The dataset is available as downloadable data (https://edg.epa.gov/data/Public/ORD/EnviroAtlas) or as an EnviroAtlas map service. This geospatial dataset depicts ownership patterns of forest land across Michigan, circa 2019. The data sources are listed below. The first seven sources of data supersede the final data source. The map was developed using available parcel polygons attributed with tax assessment data as of project initiation in early 2020, Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) data dated February 2020, and the Chesapeake Bay Program’s 2017/18 Land Use Land Cover data (2022 edition), subsequently referred to as “CBP LULC.” The map also incorporates land use datasets provided by county and municipal jurisdictions to the extent possible while maintaining standard statewide classification definitions and rules. The product was developed to be consistent with the 2018 National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) imagery and CBP LULC dataset. MDP’s draft updated land use classification scheme is available as a separate document. This product is a beta release for public use and further testing. Methods for developing subsequent releases beyond this 2018 baseline will be refined based on feedback from the user community. Urban Land Uses 11 Low-density residential - Detached single-family/duplex dwelling units, yards, and associated areas. The 2015 Level I Kansas Land Cover Patterns map represents Phase 1 of a two-phase database development. The map enhances the Cropland Data Layer to be comparable (thematic classes and spatial resolution (cell size) and generalization (or MMU)) to the 1990 and 2005 Kansas Land Cover Patterns map to provide opportunities to identify and examine how the Kansas landscape has changed over time. In Phase II cropland pixels will be extracted from the Level I map and mapped using 2015 MODIS NDVI time-series and compared to crop map results generated in the CDL. The most accurate crop type map will be used for the final Level III map product. Also in Phase II, grassland pixels will be extracted from the Level I map and cool- and warm-season grasslands will be mapped using 2015 Landsat TM and/or 2015 MODIS NDVI time-series.The map contains ten land use/land cover classes. The positional accuracy and spatial resolution of the map are appropriate for producing 1:50,000 scale maps. Farmland information was obtained from the Farmland Mapping & Monitoring Program (FMMP) in the Division of Land Resource Protection in the California Department of Conservation. Established in 1982, the FMMP is to provide consistent and impartial data and analysis of agricultural land use and land use changes throughout the State of California. The study area is in accordance to the soil survey developed by NRCS (National Resources Conservation Service) in the United States Department of Agriculture. Important Farmland Map is biennially updated based on a computer mapping system, aerial imagery, public review, and field interpretation. NOTES: This data was reviewed by local jurisdictions and reflects each jurisdiction's input received during the SCAG's 2020 RTP/SCS Local Input and Envisioning Process.The updated Farmland categories are contained in 'polygon_ty' field. AR5 shows types of land resources on a scale of 1:5000 in areas below the forest border. The data set is adapted to use on scales from 1:5000 to 1:20 000. AR5 is derived from the earlier fields in Economic Mapping. The division into land use types is based on criteria for vegetation, natural drainage and cultural impact. The dataset consists of the following properties that can be used to produce map layers with predefined presentation rules (sld files): area type (ARTYPE), land conditions (ARGRUNNF), wood species (ARTRESLAG), arable land (ARDYRKING), forest land (ARSKOGBON). Area less than two acres is usually not separated as a separate figure. Agricultural land is separated down to 0.5 acres. The requirement for location accuracy is two meters. Municipalities are responsible for continuous updating. NIBIO makes periodic updates every 4-7 years. Bone and Agriculture maps are only available as a WMS service.

AR50 is a nationwide dataset that shows the main types of land resources adapted to use on scales from 1:20 000 to 1:100 000. The data set consists of the following properties that can be used to produce map layers with predefined presentation rules (sld files): area type (ARTYPE), agriculture (ARJORD USE), tree species (ARTRESLAG), forest bondage (ARSKOGBON) and snauland (ARSKOGBON). AR50 is produced by generalising FKB-AR5 below the tree line and interpreting satellite imagery across the tree line. For classification of tree species, N50 forests have also been used without registered tree species where there is no AR5. Figures that are less than 15 acres do not appear on the map, but are merged with adjacent areas. AR50 is thus not suitable for spatial analyses or production of land-use statistics. The AR50 has been updated approximately every three years with the latest annual version of FKB-AR5. The production is fully automated and based on a complex rule-based production route for compiling the data sets. The latest version of the AR50 was published in May 2022 with data from AR5 and N50 from 31.12.2021, as well as new AR-FJELL2. The satellite images are from the period 2020 and 2022 (Sentinel 2 satellite). The production track was then rewritten with a new code. The code is adjusted to changes in the input data sets. The generalised figures will therefore differ slightly from previous versions. In addition, there is topological straightening including smoothing of the figures. Data is downloaded as county or municipal files. The first version of the AR50 year 2010 dataset was produced by AR5 and N50 as of 31.12.2010, and AR-FJELL with satellite imagery (IMAGE2000) from the period 1994 and 2006. It has since made annual version 2013 (AR5 and N50 as per 31.12.2013) and annual version 2016 (AR5 and N50 as of 31.12.2016). AR-FJELL has not been updated since 2010. The latest update of the first version of the AR50 has data from 31.12.2016.
Status: COMPLETED 2010. The data was converted from the most recent (2010) versions of the adopted plans, which can be found at https://cms3.tucsonaz.gov/planning/plans/ Supplemental Information: In March 2010, Pima Association of Governments (PAG), in cooperation with the City of Tucson (City), initiated the Planned Land Use Data Conversion Project. This 9-month effort involved evaluating mapped land use designations and selected spatially explicit policies for nearly 50 of the City's adopted neighborhood, area, and subregional plans and converting the information into a Geographic Information System (GIS) format. Further documentation for this file can be obtained from the City of Tucson Planning and Development Services Department or Pima Association of Governments Technical Services. A brief summary report was provided, as requested, to the City of Tucson which highlights some of the key issues found during the conversion process (e.g., lack of mapping and terminology consistency among plans). The feature class "Plan_boundaries" represents the boundaries of the adopted plans. The feature class "Plan_mapped_land_use" represents the land use designations as they are mapped in the adopted plans. Some information was gathered that is implicit based on the land use designation or zones (see field descriptions below). Since this information is not explicitly stated in the plans, it should only be viewed by City staff for general planning purposes. The feature class "Plan_selected_policies" represents the spatially explicit policies that were fairly straightforward to map. Since these policies are not represented in adopted maps, this feature class should only be viewed by City staff for general planning purposes only. 2010 - created by Jamison Brown, working as an independent contractor for Pima Association of Governments, created this file in 2010 by digitizing boundaries as depicted (i.e. for the mapped land use) or described in the plans (i.e. for the narrative policies). In most cases, this involved tracing based on parcel (paregion) or street center line (stnetall) feature classes. Snapping was used to provide line coincidence. For some map conversions, freehand sketches were drawn to mimick the freehand sketches in the adopted plan. AR250 is a comprehensive dataset that shows the country’s land resources in light of their suitability for agriculture and forestry. The data set is adapted for visualisation on scales from 1:100 000 to 1:300 000 (county and region level). the data set is made by generalising the AR5 area resource map below the tree line and interpreting satellite images above the tree line. In addition, N250 is used where there was neither AR5 nor suitable satellite imagery. Figures that are less than 100 acres are not displayed on the map, but are merged with adjacent areas. AR250 is thus not suitable for spatial analyses or production of land-use statistics. The dataset is updated once every three years with the last year’s version of FKB-AR5 (area resource map in scale 1:5000 in the database as of 31.12). The latest update has data from 31.12.2016.

Most federal lands are west of the Mississippi River, where almost half of the land by area is managed by the federal government.
