This spatial dataset contains generalized location data for:species of conservation concern (including species at risk)plant communitieswildlife concentration areasThe data includes a spatial layer and related table. We recommend using the geodatabase, as the relationship between the spatial layer and its table is built in. If you prefer another format, the ‘complete shapefile’ download is the only option that includes the spatial layer and its related table in one package. This data can be used to identify species or ecological communities on or near your property or project site. This class has related tables. The LIO Topographic Data Cache is a collection of topographic data, that has been preprocessed for fast, seamless display at predefined scales. The topographic data includes constructed and natural features that make up Ontario’s landscape. The cache provides limited data from areas outside Ontario’s boundaries, such as the United States and adjacent provinces and territories. Technical information Two versions of the LIO Topographic Data Cache are available: 1. The traditional raster version is available for a variety of GIS applications and is updated annually. 2. The vector version is suitable for online web map applications as well as modern GIS software and is updated twice a year. Contributing data layers may have different maintenance and update cycles. Some cache layers have been processed in a way that makes it easier for them to be displayed in a mapping product. Other layers are unchanged from the authoritative data. The cartographic symbology used in the data cache is intentionally muted to allow users to showcase their data. The LIO Topographic Data Cache is created from many source datasets, which are described in the LIO Topographic Data Cache user guide. If you are interested in getting this authoritative data, you can download it from the Ontario GeoHub. For instructions on getting a copy of either version of the cache for use in mapping applications, visit the Ontario GeoHub.

The Ontario Land Inventory (OLI) database provides a digital representation of a series of historical maps created between 1963 and 1977 describing and evaluating Ontario's land resources for its capability for Timber Use, Wildlife Use, Recreation Use and for Shoreland Recreation. Land Classification as used by the Ontario Land Inventory (OLI) is a system of describing the physical features of the land which exert the most significant influence upon the growth of the plant community. The Timber Use Capability ratings of the OLI indicate the potential ability of land to grow tree crops. These ratings are specifically related to the physical features which control the rate of tree growth. Wildlife Use Capability indicates the natural ability of the land to provide the required habitat for a given species. The selection of wildlife species for which an area is rated, is based on the natural range of each species. Recreation Use Capability classifies the land for its inherent ability to attract and sustain recreation use. The physical features of the land determine the intensity of use that can be attracted and sustained. A recreation feature that can attract and sustain use by many people rates higher than a feature that can only attract and sustain a few. The Shoreland Recreation information describes the physical features of the wet beach and backshore of a lake and rates the sites for their capability for bathing and camping activities and lodging and deep water activities. Originally produced as published maps only the Land Classification, Wildlife and Timber information are currently avaliable in a digital format. Support hardcopy published maps, worksheets and source documentation can be assessed through the Archives of Ontario. (excluding Land Classification Series).

This table represents metadata records which formerly existed on LIO’s Metadata Management Tool. Records representing data licensed for use under the Open Government Licence - Ontario have migrated to the Ontario GeoHub.
The remaining records could not migrate for one of the following reasons:
The data is not spatial. The metadata record is incomplete. The metadata contact information is invalid. The metadata references data that has not been made available to LIO. LIO cannot confirm that the data has been reviewed to be released under the Open Government Licence - Ontario.

The 3 combined land cover databases:
Far North Land Cover v1.4 Southern Ontario Land Resource Information System (SOLRIS) v1.2 the Provincial Land Cover 2000 Edition
While each of these source products has differing pixel resolutions, projections and classifications, the resulting OLCC database is a standardized product with a:
pixel resolution of 15 metres coordinate system of Ontario Lambert Conformal Conic class structure of 29 land cover classes.
The standardized classification has been accomplished at the expense of the more detailed class structures in the source land cover products. Where possible, the original land cover products should be used for analysis.
This is an update to OLCC v1.0. In this version the Far North Land Cover component has been updated and extends further south into the Area of Undertaking (AOU) and into Manitoba than the previous version. Now also available through a web service which exposes the data for visualization and geoprocessing. The service is best accessed through the ArcGIS REST API, either directly or by setting up an ArcGIS server connection using the REST endpoint URL. The service draws using the Web Mercator projection. For more information on what functionality is available and how to work with the service, read the Ontario Web Raster Services User Guide. The land cover classes consist of vegetation types (such as forest, wetlands and agricultural crops or pasture) and categories of non-vegetated surface (such as water bodies, bedrock outcrops or settlements). These classes reflect the nature of the land surface rather than actual or potential land use. The 2000 Edition of the Ontario Land Cover Data Base is the Second Edition of this provincial land cover classification. The coverage is derived wholly from Landsat-7 Thematic Mapper (TM) satellite data frames recorded between 1999 and 2002, most from 2000 onward. The Provincial Land Cover (2000) Data Base is divided into 4 individual Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) grid zone tiles (15, 16, 17, and 18) and is distributed in TIFF format. Documentation is provided with this database in the form of a user's guide and general use caveats. *[TIFF]: Tagged Image File Format *[TM]: Thematic Mapper *[UTM]: Universal Transverse Mercator

A Research Line is a feature representing linear or transect based locations, where some form of research observation, test, trial, measure, or monitoring activity has, or will take place. Coordinates are taken along the full length of the transect. These features are generally long and narrow with no appreciable width (less than 10 meters). This data class is one of three primitive data classes: Research Point (RESPOINT), Research Line (RESLINE), and Research Polygon (RESPOLY).

SOLRIS is based on MNRF's Ecological Land Classification (ELC) for southern Ontario (Lee et al, 1998). It is a land use inventory that supports a number of key provincial initiatives including: State of Natural Resources Reporting (Forestry, Biodiversity), Natural Heritage Features Reporting (wetlands, woodlands), Climate Change Reporting and Land Use Planning. Maintained on a consistent update cycle, SOLRIS provides a standardized geospatial information layer that allows for reporting on changes in natural and anthropogenic features, such as wetland extent, forest afforestation/deforestation, habitat connectivity and built-up areas (impervious/pervious). The data covers the date ranges from 2000-2015 in Ecoregions 7E, 6E and 5E (Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe Study Area and an Eastern Ontario extension to the Forest Resources Inventory boundary).

This product consists of data layers in geodatabase format (.gdb) extracted from Land Information Ontario's (LIO) GeoHub for various time periods, for historical and reference purposes only. There are multiple geodatabases for the same years due to the size of the products, typically they are separated by region or by type of data for the Province of Ontario.
The structure and organization of the geodatabases may vary from year to year. The data cover:
Note: Not all years include all four of the files listed above.
These files represent data for the period that the geodatabase was extracted from LIO's GeoHub, these are not current data and should be used for historical and reference purposes only. Most of these data are now available as open data through LIO's GeoHub.
The extract dates are preserved in the date fields provided in the data and metadata table(s) for each geodatabase. The file geodatabase has been prepared as a convenience to users wanting access to all LIO Warehouse Open Data products in file geodatabase structure. If you require the data in SHAPE file format, you can get the data for these from the metadata describing individual data layers from the LIO GeoHub.
