This table represents metadata records which formerly existed on LIO’s Metadata Management Tool. Records representing data licensed for use under the Open Government Licence - Ontario have migrated to the Ontario GeoHub.
The remaining records could not migrate for one of the following reasons:
The data is not spatial. The metadata record is incomplete. The metadata contact information is invalid. The metadata references data that has not been made available to LIO. LIO cannot confirm that the data has been reviewed to be released under the Open Government Licence - Ontario.

The LIO Topographic Data Cache is a collection of topographic data, that has been preprocessed for fast, seamless display at predefined scales. The topographic data includes constructed and natural features that make up Ontario’s landscape. The cache provides limited data from areas outside Ontario’s boundaries, such as the United States and adjacent provinces and territories. Technical information Two versions of the LIO Topographic Data Cache are available: 1. The traditional raster version is available for a variety of GIS applications and is updated annually. 2. The vector version is suitable for online web map applications as well as modern GIS software and is updated twice a year. Contributing data layers may have different maintenance and update cycles. Some cache layers have been processed in a way that makes it easier for them to be displayed in a mapping product. Other layers are unchanged from the authoritative data. The cartographic symbology used in the data cache is intentionally muted to allow users to showcase their data. The LIO Topographic Data Cache is created from many source datasets, which are described in the LIO Topographic Data Cache user guide. If you are interested in getting this authoritative data, you can download it from the Ontario GeoHub. For instructions on getting a copy of either version of the cache for use in mapping applications, visit the Ontario GeoHub.

The 3 combined land cover databases:
Far North Land Cover v1.4 Southern Ontario Land Resource Information System (SOLRIS) v1.2 the Provincial Land Cover 2000 Edition
While each of these source products has differing pixel resolutions, projections and classifications, the resulting OLCC database is a standardized product with a:
pixel resolution of 15 metres coordinate system of Ontario Lambert Conformal Conic class structure of 29 land cover classes.
The standardized classification has been accomplished at the expense of the more detailed class structures in the source land cover products. Where possible, the original land cover products should be used for analysis.
This is an update to OLCC v1.0. In this version the Far North Land Cover component has been updated and extends further south into the Area of Undertaking (AOU) and into Manitoba than the previous version. Now also available through a web service which exposes the data for visualization and geoprocessing. The service is best accessed through the ArcGIS REST API, either directly or by setting up an ArcGIS server connection using the REST endpoint URL. The service draws using the Web Mercator projection. For more information on what functionality is available and how to work with the service, read the Ontario Web Raster Services User Guide. The land cover classes consist of vegetation types (such as forest, wetlands and agricultural crops or pasture) and categories of non-vegetated surface (such as water bodies, bedrock outcrops or settlements).
These classes reflect the nature of the land surface rather than actual or potential land use. The 2000 Edition of the Ontario Land Cover Data Base is the Second Edition of this provincial land cover classification. The coverage is derived wholly from Landsat-7 Thematic Mapper (TM) satellite data frames recorded between 1999 and 2002, most from 2000 onward.
The Provincial Land Cover (2000) Data Base is divided into 4 individual Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) grid zone tiles (15, 16, 17, and 18) and is distributed in TIFF format. Documentation is provided with this database in the form of a user's guide and general use caveats.

A Research Line is a feature representing linear or transect based locations, where some form of research observation, test, trial, measure, or monitoring activity has, or will take place. Coordinates are taken along the full length of the transect. These features are generally long and narrow with no appreciable width (less than 10 meters). This data class is one of three primitive data classes: Research Point (RESPOINT), Research Line (RESLINE), and Research Polygon (RESPOLY).

Site Regions and Site Districts of Ontario represent an early Ecological Land Classification (ELC) system originally developed by Angus Hills. This dataset was revised by the ELC Working Group in 2000 to better reflect new information and new technology.
The Site Regions of Ontario was used for descriptive, planning, and resource management purposes. This upper level in its hierarchy was most useful for provincial and regional roll-ups of data and for strategic planning.
Site Districts of Ontario is a more detailed lower (finer-scale) level of the hierarchy, and was more useful for detailed resource management prescriptions and other local and site planning applications. This layer is designed to be used as a spatial selection tool and as a background layer suitable for overlay and or intersection with numerous scales or current hydrologic data.

Zoom in on the map above and click your area of interest or use the Tile Index linked below to determine which package(s) you require for download. The Digital Elevation Models (DEM) are 2-m resolution raster elevation products that were generated from the Ontario Classified Point Cloud (Imagery-Derived) data. The point clouds were created via a pixel-autocorrelation process from the stereo aerial photography of the Land Information Ontario (LIO) imagery program. It is important to note that the DEM does not represent a full ‘bare-earth’ elevation surface. There are areas where there are very few points classified as Ground and interpolation has occurred across the resulting voids. Points classified as Ground have not been assessed for accuracy to determine if they represent true ground features. Some features are still raised above ground surface, such as larger buildings, larger forest stands and other raised features.
For more detailed information about this dataset, refer to the associated User Guide.
Now also available through a web service which exposes the data for visualization, geoprocessing and limited download.
The service is best accessed through the ArcGIS REST API, either directly or by setting up an ArcGIS server connection using the REST endpoint URL. The service draws using the Web Mercator projection.
