Parcels delineate the approximate boundaries of property ownership as described in Napa County deeds, filed maps, and other source documents. GIS parcel boundaries are maintained by the Information Technology Services GIS team. Assessor Parcel Maps are created and maintained by the Assessor Division Mapping Section. Each parcel has an Assessor Parcel Number (APN) that is its unique identifier. The APN is the link to various Napa County databases containing information such as owner name, situs address, property value, land use, zoning, flood data, and other related information. Data for this map service is sourced from the Napa County Parcels dataset which is updated nightly with any recent changes made by the mapping team. There may at times be a delay between when a document is recorded and when the new parcel boundary configuration and corresponding information is available in the online GIS parcel viewer. From 1850 to early 1900s assessor staff wrote the name of the property owner and the property value on map pages. They began using larger maps, called “tank maps” because of the large steel cabinet they were kept in, organized by school district (before unification) on which names and values were written. In the 1920s, the assessor kept large books of maps by road district on which names were written. In the 1950s, most county assessors contracted with the State Board of Equalization for board staff to draw standardized 11x17 inch maps following the provisions of Assessor Handbook 215. Maps were originally drawn on linen. By the 1980’s Assessor maps were being drawn on mylar rather than linen. In the early 1990s Napa County transitioned from drawing on mylar to creating maps in AutoCAD. When GIS arrived in Napa County in the mid-1990s, the AutoCAD images were copied over into the GIS parcel layer. Sidwell, an independent consultant, was then contracted by the Assessor’s Office to convert these APN files into the current seamless ArcGIS parcel fabric for the entire County. Beginning with the 2024-2025 assessment roll, the maps are being drawn directly in the parcel fabric layer.Parcels in the GIS parcel fabric are drawn according to the legal description using coordinate geometry (COGO) drawing tools and various reference data such as Public Lands Survey section boundaries and road centerlines. The legal descriptions are not defined by the GIS parcel fabric. Any changes made in the GIS parcel fabric via official records, filed maps, and other source documents are uploaded overnight. There is always at least a 6-month delay between when a document is recorded and when the new parcel configuration and corresponding information is available in the online parcel viewer for search or download.Parcel boundary accuracy can vary significantly, with errors ranging from a few feet to several hundred feet. These distortions are caused by several factors such as: the map projection - the error derived when a spherical coordinate system model is projected into a planar coordinate system using the local projected coordinate system; and the ground to grid conversion - the distortion between ground survey measurements and the virtual grid measurements. The aim of the parcel fabric is to construct a visual interpretation that is adequate for basic geographic understanding. This digital data is intended for illustration and demonstration purposes only and is not considered a legal resource, nor legally authoritative.

General UsagePublic users who enter the portal will land at the Parcel Search page by default. The four (4) buttons located on the top navigation bar are used to initiate searches for land parcel and tax information in the system. Note that Sales History is currently a premium feature of the Ascent Land Records Portal and be not be available every county. When the user hovers over a particular button with the mouse pointer, that button will change to the color red.If the user clicks the left mouse button while the button is red, the user will be navigated the specific search screen and will be able to enter search criteria and view the search results. A detailed explanation of each search is provided in the help topics that follow. An overview is provided below and each bullet provides a link to more detail.Parcel Search: Allows a user to locate a real estate tax parcel using one or more search criteria. A search will return the user zero or more candidate results that satisfy the search criteria. The user may then choose a specific real estate tax parcel in order to investigate it in more detail. Survey Search: A survey is an element in the Ascent Land Records System that is always related to one or more parcels. Any parcel created within the Ascent Land Records System must have an associated survey that describes what circumstances resulted in the parcel's creation. Parcels that existed prior to the county's transition to the Ascent Land Records System may not have an associated survey element.Sales History: This search provides the capability to search for property sales for a single municipality within a specified date range. It analyzes and combines data from both the county's property listing database and the county's Register of Deeds database.Plat & Condo Directory: This provides a listing of any subdivision, condominium, cemetery, and transportation plats maintained in this system by the county. Note that this information will only be available if the county department responsible for property listing records manages maintains this information in the Ascent Land Records System.

    Description

The statewide composite of parcels (cadastral) data for New Jersey was developed during the Parcels Normalization Project in 2008-2014 by the NJ Office of Information Technology, Office of GIS (NJOGIS.) The normalized parcels data are compatible with the NJ Department of the Treasury system currently used by Tax Assessors, and those records have been joined in this dataset. This composite of parcels data serves as one of the framework GIS datasets for New Jersey. Stewardship and maintenance of the data will continue to be the purview of county and municipal governments, but the statewide composite will be maintained by NJOGIS.Parcel attributes were normalized to a standard structure, specified in the NJ GIS Parcel Mapping Standard, to store parcel information and provide a PIN (parcel identification number) field that can be used to match records with suitably-processed property tax data. The standard is available for viewing and download at https://njgin.state.nj.us/oit/gis/NJ_NJGINExplorer/docs/NJGIS_ParcelMappingStandardv3.2.pdf. The PIN also can be constructed from attributes available in the MOD-IV Tax List Search table (see below). This feature class includes a large number of additional attributes from matched MOD-IV records; however, not all MOD-IV records match to a parcel, for reasons explained elsewhere in this metadata record. The statewide property tax table, including all MOD-IV records, is available as a separate download "MOD-IV Tax List Search Plus Database of New Jersey." Users who need only the parcel boundaries with limited attributes may obtain those from a separate download "Parcels Composite of New Jersey". Also available separately are countywide parcels and tables of property ownership and tax information extracted from the NJ Division of Taxation database. The polygons delineated in this dataset do not represent legal boundaries and should not be used to provide a legal determination of land ownership. Parcels are not survey data and should not be used as such. Please note that these parcel datasets are not intended for use as tax maps. They are intended to provide reasonable representations of parcel boundaries for planning and other purposes. Please see Data Quality / Process Steps for details about updates to this composite since its first publication.***NOTE*** For users who incorporate NJOGIS services into web maps and/or web applications, please sign up for the NJ Geospatial Forum discussion listserv for early notification of service changes. Description

Analysis of ‘OC Land Use 2015’ provided by Analyst-2 (analyst-2.ai), based on source dataset retrieved from https://catalog.data.gov/dataset/5e040bf7-b00a-423f-96eb-8b82b63a4874 on 28 January 2022.

--- Dataset description provided by original source is as follows ---

BY USING THIS WEBSITE OR THE CONTENT THEREIN, YOU AGREE TO THE TERMS OF USE.
A spatial representation of land use. The polygons contained in this feature class were derived from the Oakland County Tax Parcel feature class. Each parcel was categorized by its land use. When a parcel has multiple land uses, the dominant land use is shown.

Assessing records and orthophotography were the main sources used to attribute each tax parcel with land use information. The data was collected in 2015.

Key attributes are the land use and key pin (Sidwell number). Land Use stores the Land Use description for each parcel. The Key Pin is the unique Parcel Identification Number (Pin) used to link the parcel to the parcel attributes which are stored and maintained in Oakland County Land Records.

The 2015 version of land use was created using the 2014 version as a primary source. It was assumed that if the Parcel Identification Number and the Use Code were equal in both years, then the land use did not change. Thus, only the parcels where a change occured had to be assigned a land use. To ensure the quality of the land use data, however, several types of use codes were manually checked again for this update to enusre the assigned use is still accurate. Also, reference data such as the Adult Care, Public Beach, and Recreation Land feature classes the were used to locate misrepresented parcels.

The development process consists of three basic steps. First, parcels with use codes that are assumed to relate to a single land use are categorized as such. Second, parcels with a use code that is assumed to relate to more than one land use are manually classified using orthophotography and ownership as a reference. Lastly, tax parcels, right-of-way, and hydrography are unioned to create a single land use dataset.

    Assumptions:
In 2005, Oakland County Equalization and many of the local assessors have changed from using the use codes described below to property class codes. These codes were interpreted to simliar use codes for the purpose of this data. One major change is that tax exempt property is no longer recorded using the "ME, Miscellaneous Exempt" use code, but are instead usually classifed as "RV, Residential Vacant." The "Taxable" field was referenced to locate tax exempt property such as schools, churches, and governemnt-owned property during this land use update.

Any parcel classified as vacant may be an accessory use to an adjacent, commonly owned, improved parcel. In this event, the vacant parcel is reclassified as the use of the adjacent, commonly owned, improved parcel. It should be noted, however, that parcels with use codes of RV, SV, and LV, that represent a single family vacant use, are exempt from this assumption.

Parcels with an Equalization use code of RV, SV, or LV may include uses to be reclassified as Vacant or Recreation & Conservation (due to subdivision open space). These parcels are not manually checked. Queries are conducted to search for those parcels that are subdivision open space. The following strings are queried from the Owner1 and Owner2 fields: "*own*" (unknown, homeowner), "ass*" (association, ass'n, etc), and "park."

The Equalization use code BI, Business Improved includes uses that are reclassified as Commercial/Office. Uses may also fall into Public/Institutional, however, all BI parcels are not manually checked for reclassification.

The Equalization use code MM, Miscellaneous Business includes uses that are reclassified as Recreation and Conservation, Multiple Family, Commercial/Office, or Mobile Home Park.

The Equalization use code ME, Miscellaneous Exempt includes uses that are reclassified as Recreation & Conservation, Public/Institutional, Transportation, Utility & Communication, Industrial (municipal landfills), or any Single Family classification.

The Equalization use code KI, Condominium Improved includes uses that are reclassified as Multiple Family, Single Family, or Commercial/Office. Any parcel with an Equalization use code of FI, Farm Improved or FV, Farm Vacant is considered to be an active agricultural use.

Any parcel with an Equalization use code of II, Industrial Improved is considered to be an industrial use.

Any parcel with an Equalization use code of FC, Farm Conservation is considered to be a recreational/conservation use.

Any parcel with an Equalization use code of AI, Apartment Improved is considered to be a multiple family residential use.

Any parcel with an Equalization use code of UI, Utility Improved is considered to be a transportation, utility, or communication related use.

Parcels with an Equalization use code of DI, Developmental Improved are reclassified as Single Family or Vacant.

Any parcel with an Equalization use code of DV for Developmental Vacant may be reclassified as Vacant, Recreation & Conservation, (golf courses) or Industrial (mining or extractive).

Polygons in the ROW region of the parcel coverage will be classified as Recreation and Conservation, and Commercial/Office, Vacant, Road ROW, and Railroad ROW.

Because of inconsistencies in Use Code data, unique uses, and the goal of creating an accurate coverage that is not limited by its metadata, there may be exceptions from these assumptions.

    Exceptions:
There are nine isolated cases where the land use would be tremendously overstated if the whole parcel was shown in a single use. In these cases, the polygon was split to show the use of the rest of the parcel vacant. These parcels are listed below:
    01-29-451-001
    01-35-300-014

    Description

This is the land parcels (polygon) dataset for the UKCEH Land Cover Map of 2018(LCM2018) representing Great Britain. It describes Great Britain's land cover in 2018 using UKCEH Land Cover Classes, which are based on UK Biodiversity Action Plan broad habitats. This dataset was derived from the corresponding LCM2018 20m classified pixels dataset. All further LCM2018 datasets for Great Britain are derived from this land parcel product. A range of land parcel attributes are provided. These include the dominant UKCEH Land Cover Class given as an integer value, and a range of per-parcel pixel statistics to help to assess classification confidence and accuracy; for a full explanation please refer to the dataset documentation. LCM2018 represents a suite of geospatial land cover datasets (raster and polygon) describing the UK land surface in 2018. These were produced at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology by classifying satellite images from 2018. LCM2018 was simultaneously released with LCM2017 and LCM2019. These are the latest in a series of UKCEH land cover maps, which began with the 1990 Land Cover Map of Great Britain (now usually referred to as LCM1990) followed by UK-wide land cover maps LCM2000, LCM2007 and LCM2015. This work was supported by the Natural Environment Research Council award number NE/R016429/1 as part of the UK-SCAPE programme delivering National Capability. Any parcel with an Equalization use code of FI, Farm Improved or FV, Farm Vacant is considered to be an active agricultural use.Any parcel with an Equalization use code of II, Industrial Improved is considered to be an industrial use.Any parcel with an Equalization use code of FC, Farm Conservation is considered to be a recreational/conservation use.Any parcel with an Equalization use code of AI, Apartment Improved is considered to be a multiple family residential use.Any parcel with an Equalization use code of UI, Utility Improved is considered to be a transportation, utility, or communication related use.Parcels with an Equalization use code of DI, Developmental Improved are reclassified as Single Family or Vacant.Any parcel with an Equalization use code of DV for Developmental Vacant may be reclassified as Vacant, Recreation & Conservation, (golf courses) or Industrial (mining or extractive).Polygons in the ROW region of the parcel coverage will be classified as Recreation and Conservation, and Commercial/Office, Vacant, Road ROW, and Railroad ROW.Because of inconsistencies in Use Code data, unique uses, and the goal of creating an accurate coverage that is not limited by its metadata, there may be exceptions from these assumptions.Exceptions:There are nine isolated cases where the land use would be tremendously overstated if the whole parcel was shown in a single use. In these cases, the polygon was split to show the use of the rest of the parcel vacant. These parcels are listed below: 01-29-451-001 01-35-300-014 04-08-200-002 04-24-100-004 07-13-301-006 14-04-376-002 18-19-476-015 21-10-200-001 21-10-200-002

    Description

This is a 25m pixel data set representing the land surface of Great Britain, classified into 21 UKCEH land cover classes, based upon Biodiversity Action Plan broad habitats. It is a three-band raster in GeoTiff format, produced by rasterising three properties of the classified land parcels dataset. The first band gives the most likely land cover type; the second band gives the per-parcel probability of the land cover, the third band is a measure of parcel purity. The probability and purity bands (scaled 0 to 100) combine to give an indication of uncertainty. A full description of this and all UKCEH LCM2022 products are available from the LCM2022 product documentation. Description

This data set contains a shapefile of a digitized map of the land parcel information of the original properties of the Uruara colonization site, Para, Brazil, acquired from the Instituto de Colonizacao e Reforma Agraria, or the Colonization and Agrarian Reform Institute (INCRA). The Uruara settlement geometry was initially designed by INCRA, and consists of mostly 100 hectare lots (400 x 2500 meters, and 500 x 2000 meters), running north and south of the Trans-Amazon Highway, as a fine network of small, narrow rectangles. The other parcels in the landscape are the so-called glebas that range up to 3,000 hectares.

The map was in the form of a paper map without a projection (a spherical geographic coordinate system) in the South American 1969 datum (SAD 1969). This paper map was digitized in Environmental Science Research Institute (ESRI) ArcInfo 8.1 using a digitizing table, and the digital cadastral data were geo-referenced and projected to match the Universal Transverse Mercator projection (Zone 22 South, World Geodetic System 1984 datum) of Landsat imagery (Landsat.org). There is one compressed (*.zip) file with this data set.

    Description

This is the land parcels (polygon) dataset for the UKCEH Land Cover Map of 2019 (LCM2019) representing Great Britain. It describes Great Britain's land cover in 2019 using UKCEH Land Cover Classes, which are based on UK Biodiversity Action Plan broad habitats. This dataset was derived from the corresponding LCM2019 20m classified pixels dataset. All further LCM2019 datasets for Great Britain are derived from this land parcel product. A range of land parcel attributes are provided. These include the dominant UKCEH Land Cover Class given as an integer value, and a range of per-parcel pixel statistics to help to assess classification confidence and accuracy; for a full explanation please refer to the dataset documentation. LCM2019 represents a suite of geospatial land cover datasets (raster and polygon) describing the UK land surface in 2019. These were produced at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology by classifying satellite images from 2019. LCM2019 was simultaneously released with LCM2017 and LCM2018. Description

Public view of the parcel layer. This view is limited to only the attributes that can be seen by the general public. The data table includes the following fields: Shape Type (Shape), Shape.STArea() (Shape_Area), Shape.STLength() (Shape_Area), Name (APN), Created By Record (CreatedbyR), Retired By Record (RetiredbyR), Stated Area, Stated Area Unit (StatedAr_1), Calculated Area (Calculated), Misclose Ratio (MiscloseRa), Misclose Distance (MiscloseDi), Is Seed (IsSeed), Created By (created_us), Created Date (created_da), Modified By (last_edite), Modified Date (last_edi_1), Validation Status (VALIDATION), APN Dashed (APN_Dashed), Map Page (Map_Page), Municipality (Municipali), FloorOrder, HideThere are approximately 51,300 real property parcels in Napa County.
