    Description

The statistic illustrates the most traveled domestic air routes in the U.S., based on enplaned passengers from February 2015 to January 2016. The second most popular air route in the U.S. was from Los Angeles, CA to San Francisco, CA with 3.7 million enplaned passengers transported in this time period. Most traveled U.S. routes and its connecting airports Considering the geographical position of the United States and the large distance between major cities, air transportation in the U.S. is one of the most frequented methods of travel; more than 600 million passengers are traveling on domestic flights across the U.S. every year.

Some of the most traveled routes in 2015 were the ones between Chicago-New York or Chicago-Los Angeles. Chicago is the third most-populated city in the United States and one of the major hubs for leading U.S. carriers: Southwest Airlines has more than 200 daily departures from Chicago’s Midway International Airport, while O’Hare International Airport is United Airlines’ main hub. With just under 77 million passengers arriving and departing, the O’Hare International Airport generated more than 845 million U.S. dollars in revenue in the fiscal year of 2015.

Los Angeles is the second-largest city after New York City and a major hub for American Airlines. With more than 70 million passengers traveling every year, Los Angeles International Airport was the third busiest U.S. airport in 2015 and reported some 1.1 billion U.S. dollars in revenue.

New York City’s main airport, John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), is a major hub for the low-cost airline, JetBlue Airways; more than 9 million people arrive and depart on its flights every year. However, the neighboring airport, LaGuardia Airport, is the city’s leading airport in terms of domestic passenger traffic.
