NEW!: Use the new Business Account Number lookup tool. SUMMARYThis dataset includes the locations of businesses that pay taxes to the City and County of San Francisco. Each registered business may have multiple locations and each location is a single row. The Treasurer & Tax Collector’s Office collects this data through business registration applications, account update/closure forms, and taxpayer filings. Business locations marked as “Administratively Closed” have not filed or communicated with TTX for 3 years, or were marked as closed following a notification from another City and County Department. The data is collected to help enforce the Business and Tax Regulations Code including, but not limited to: Article 6, Article 12, Article 12-A, and Article 12-A-1. http://sftreasurer.org/registration.HOW TO USE THIS DATASETSystem migration in 2014: When the City transitioned to a new system in 2014, only active business accounts were migrated. The San Diego County: Active/Closed Business Listing dataset was created by merging two publicly available sources: the San Diego Business Listings (City of San Diego, n.d.), containing 159,613 businesses with information on ownership, location, industry, and operational status, and the 2020 Census Population by ZIP Code (SANDAG, n.d.), covering all 113 ZIP codes in San Diego County and including household and group-quarter populations.
Full project and notebook available on GitHub:
https://github.com/Kenier91/Business-Survival-Site-Selection-Analytics-for-San-Diego-County
The first five digits of ZIP codes were extracted into a zip5 variable to merge the datasets, linking population counts to each business record and resulting in 146,481 registered businesses associated with their ZIP code populations. The dataset was cleaned and filtered to include officially registered businesses, with an emphasis on variables suitable for predictive modeling, clustering, and geospatial analysis to identify underserved neighborhoods and high-risk areas for strategic business planning. Latitude and longitude coordinates may occasionally fall outside San Diego County; using a San Diego County shapefile can help verify locations and restrict the dataset to businesses within county boundaries.
Variables Description: - account_status: Indicates if a business is active or inactive. - date_account_creation: Date when the business account was created in the system. - ownership_type: Type of ownership (e.g., sole proprietorship, corporation). - naics_sector: High-level NAICS code representing the industry sector. - naics_description: Full textual description of the NAICS sector. - naics_code: Detailed 2–6 digit NAICS code for the specific industry. - address_city: City of the business location. - address_state: State of the business location (San Diego, CA). - zip5: ZIP code of the business location. - lat: Latitude coordinate for geospatial mapping. - lng: Longitude coordinate for geospatial mapping. - population: Number of persons in that ZIP code and population group

TwitterResident/Occupant Database
Alesco Data's Resident/Occupant Database includes over 143 million addresses and reaches virtually 100% of every U.S. household in every Zip Code throughout the country. With newly added business addresses, you now have the option to reach every postal delivery point in the country.
This address file is updated every month in conjunction with the U.S. Post Office, making it the freshest, most deliverable mailing list available. You have the ability to order addresses by Carrier Route, ZIP, County, or State.
Our Resident/Occupant Database contains names of residents on approximately 80% of the file, and they are available when requested. Otherwise, records are addressed to "Resident" or “Boxholder”. This file is ideal for saturation mailings. Each list is “walk sequenced” at the time of order and qualifies for the lowest available postage rates.
