Twenty-three 1:1 million topographic maps covering the Australian Antarctic Territory were published by the Division of National Mapping. Four of these maps were updated in 1987. Three additional maps were published for the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) by the Australian Surveying and Land Information Group (AUSLIG) in 1989. Two of these were updated by the AAD between 1998 and 1999.
In 2023, twenty-two updated 1:1 million topographic maps were produced by the AAD, covering from 36°E to 160°E in East Antarctica. Attached is a list of all maps and their map catalogue numbers. High-resolution files from the SCAR Map Catalogue are available from the download links below. The A4 legend for the series is included in every SCAR Map Catalogue entry for the map series.
The maps are available in the SCAR Map Catalogue:

- Symbology – font is Open Sans. Natural features = italics, human-made features = non-italics (this includes coast or land name, Island names), hydrology features = blue italic text.
- Bathymetry (metres) was derived from the GEBCO (General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans) 2021 Grid: GEBCO Compilation Group (2021) GEBCO 2021 Grid (doi:10.5285/c6612cbe-50b3-0cff-e053-6c86abc09f8f)
- Hillshade and contours were derived from The Reference Elevation Model of Antarctica version 2 (REMA 2): Howat, Ian, et al., 2022, “The Reference Elevation Model of Antarctica – Mosaics, Version 2”, https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/EBW8UC Harvard Dataverse, V1, 2022. - Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica (LIMA): Bindschadler, R., Vornberger, P., Fleming, A., Fox, A., Mullins, J., Binnie, D., Paulson, S., Granneman, B., and Gorodetzky, D., 2008, The Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica, Remote Sensing of Environment, 112, pp. 4214-4226. The LIMA mosaic is used with a 50% transparency over the Rema2 hillshade. This layer adds some depth, definition and colour and disguises some artifacts in Rema2 data. Note: Sentinel 2 Imagery were unavailable for a small portion of the final map in the series, SU 53-57. Rock data for this portion of map were sourced from the Antarctic Digital Database: https://scar.org/library-data/maps/add-digital-database

This dataset is available on Brisbane City Council’s open data website – data.brisbane.qld.gov.au. The site provides additional features for viewing and interacting with the data and for downloading the data in various formats.
Brisbane City Council detail plan areas can be used to locate the relevant Detail Plans on Brisbane Images.
The Detail Plans provide a dated record of Brisbane’s built environment in addition to contour levels. They were initially created to plan for installation of sewerage pipes across the city. The dates for the individual detail plans range from 1912 to 1973, depending on proximity to the inner city. However, the early detail plans were manually updated after the publication date on the plans. Therefore, it cannot be assumed that everything shown on the published plan was there at the date printed on the plan. Exact dates for each plan can be determined via the Index registers held by City Archives.
Detail Plans can show the outline of various buildings including land boundaries, fencing, house names and outbuildings within an area. The amount of information recorded however reduces after 1945 as the survey work required less detail and from the late 1960s the plans were mapped from aerial images. Note the original survey books which include the review dates for each plan can be viewed at the City Archives.
This dataset provides the boundary of the area for each Detail Plan and the relevant plan number for locating each plan on Brisbane images. Most Detail plan numbers are numerical. Detail Plan numbers starting with S are for the Sandgate area and starting with W are for Wynnum and Manly.
On the Map tab, a Click to Search link has been created where a Detailed Plan Number exists. Click on any plan area and use the Click to Search link to start a search on Brisbane Images.
The plans are progressively being uploaded to Brisbane Images, so if the search link for a particular Detail Plan Number on the Map tab does not retrieve a result, please contact City Archives and a staff member will upload the plan.
More information about City Archives or Historical material can be found on the Brisbane City Council website.
