    Description

The repercussions of climate change in Africa profound. The effects are recorded notably on agricultural and water systems across the continent. This data brief presents historical data and the first of its kind maps of readiness of Africa to climate change adaptation. The data are technically validated through a newly developed readiness Index (ClimAdaptCap Index). The Data and maps show that readiness for climate change adaptation is driven by the intensity of climate forcing and adaptive capacity. The climate data includes precipitation and temperature for the period 1991-2016. The latter were culled from the World Bank Climate Portal. The adaptive capacity data included proxies such as poverty and literacy rates for the same historical period. These were collected from the World Bank and Macrotrends. These climate data were normalized using the normalization function to enhance interpretation, comparison/fusion into the Index. Missing poverty and literacy rate data were estimated by linear interpolation of the poverty and literacy rate data. The readiness maps and data show that North and Southern Africa are the readiest for climate change while West Africa is the least ready and Middle and East Africa are in the middle. The data shows further that, readiness has a positive correlation with literacy rates and an inverse correlation with poverty rates. The data, maps and index can be adapted in different contexts principally around Africa.

Description: Grade 3 learners responses to tests to assess their literacy level - post-test. This data set contains 34 variables and 2671 cases. Abstract: The project involved the development of assessment software referred to as TARMIIfp to help foundation phase teachers in South Africa improve their teaching. The study asked the question 'to what extent do teachers' use the software to improve their learners literacy development? The research design involved selecting 20 experimental and 20 control schools within a district in four provinces (Limpopo, Free State, North West and Mpumalanga) in South Africa. Each of the experimental schools was given a computer installed with the software. Data were collected on learners literacy achievement levels at the beginning and at the end of the 2014 academic year from a random sample of 20 learners from each of the three foundation phase grades (grades1, 2 and 3 in the selected schools). The study also collected additional data during the post-test assessment on school poverty quintile, gender of learners and in grade 3, variables describing the socioeconomic background of learners. Educational measurements Face-to-face interview Self-completion Primary schools in a selected school district from the following provinces: North West, Free State, Mpumalanga and Limpopo. All learners in grades 1 to 3. One teacher per grade in the sampled schools. The study involved experimental and control groups. Within each of the four participating districts, 20 experimental schools and 20 control schools were selected. Within each of the selected schools three teachers from grade 1, 2 and 3 were selected by the school to participate in the study. Within each of the three grades (grades 1, 2 and 3) in a school, a random sample of 20 learners participated in the pre and post test on literacy. The following was the response rate for the Grade 3 post-test evaluation: Expected sample of learners = 3200 Realised sample of learners = 2671 Response rate = 83 percent

Rotating Book Rack for Kids Market Outlook

According to our latest research, the Global Rotating Book Rack for Kids market size was valued at $412 million in 2024 and is projected to reach $729 million by 2033, expanding at a robust CAGR of 6.5% during 2024–2033. This impressive growth trajectory is primarily driven by the increasing emphasis on early childhood education and the growing demand for innovative, space-saving furniture solutions that foster reading habits among children. As parents and educators worldwide become more aware of the importance of accessible and organized reading environments, the adoption of rotating book racks for kids is gaining remarkable momentum across both developed and developing economies.

    Regional Outlook

North America currently holds the largest share of the global Rotating Book Rack for Kids market, accounting for over 35% of total revenue in 2024. This dominance is attributed to the region's mature educational infrastructure, high disposable incomes, and a strong culture of reading and literacy promotion from an early age. The United States, in particular, is a leading market due to widespread investments in home and school learning environments, as well as a well-established retail sector that supports the distribution of innovative children’s furniture. Furthermore, the presence of major manufacturers and a high rate of product innovation contribute to North America's leadership in this sector.

The Asia Pacific region is projected to witness the fastest CAGR of 8.2% during the forecast period, driven by rapid urbanization, growing middle-class populations, and heightened awareness regarding the value of early childhood education. Countries such as China, India, and Japan are seeing substantial investments in educational infrastructure and a surge in demand for child-friendly, ergonomic furniture products. The proliferation of e-commerce platforms and the expansion of organized retail in these markets are making rotating book racks more accessible to a broader consumer base. Additionally, government initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes and promoting reading among children are acting as significant catalysts for market growth in the region.

In emerging economies across Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, the adoption of rotating book racks for kids is gradually increasing, albeit from a smaller base. These regions face unique challenges, including limited purchasing power, infrastructural constraints, and lower awareness about the benefits of such products. However, localized demand is being fueled by non-profit organizations, international aid programs, and government-backed educational reforms focusing on child development. As these economies continue to develop and urbanize, and as literacy rates improve, the market for rotating book racks is expected to expand, though at a more moderate pace compared to North America and Asia Pacific.
