The recent decrease in births in France Despite having one of the highest fertility rate in Europe, France, like other Western countries, appears to be experiencing a decrease in its number of births in recent years. According to the source, the number of births has kept decreasing since 2011, after a period of gradual increase. The country has reached its highest number of births in 2010. In 2024, the birth rate in France reached its lowest level since 1982. Another change can be seen in the average age at childbirth among French women. In 2022, most of women in France were aged 31.1 years old at childbirth, compared to 28.8 years old in 1994.

The City Birth Trauma Scale (City BiTS-F) was developed to assess posttraumatic stress disorder following childbirth (PTSD-FC), based on the PTSD criteria of the DSM-5. Recent studies investigating the latent factor structure of PTSD-FC symptoms in women reported mixed results. Given that no validated French questionnaire exists to measure PTSD-FC symptoms, this study first aimed to validate the French version of the CBTS (City BiTS-F). Second, it aims to establish the latent factor structure of PTSD-FC.
This dataset contains data on the mental health (i.e., PTSD-CB, depression, anxiety) of 541 mothers who gave birth during the last 12 months. Sociodemegraphic data such as maternal age, marital status, educational level, parity, gravidity, weeks of gestation, type of delivery, history of traumatic childbirth, or history of traumatic event is available.
This dataset is related to: Sandoz, V., Hingray, C., Stuijfzand, S., Lacroix, A., El Hage, W., & Horsch, A. (2022). The first names file contains data on the first names attributed to children born in France since 1900. These data are available at the level of France and by department. The files available for download list births and not living people in a given year. They are available in two formats (DBASE and CSV). To use these large files, it is recommended to use a database manager or statistical software. The file at the national level can be opened from some spreadsheets. The file at the departmental level is however too large (3.8 million lines) to be consulted with a spreadsheet, so it is proposed in a lighter version with births since 2000 only. The data can be accessed in: - a national data file containing the first names attributed to children born in France between 1900 and 2022 (data before 2012 relate only to France outside Mayotte) and the numbers by sex associated with each first name; - a departmental data file containing the same information at the department of birth level; - a lighter data file that contains information at the department level of birth since the year 2000.
