This USGS data release contains 7Q10 and 30Q10 [lowest annual 7-day and 30-day average streamflow that occurs (on average) once every 10 years] statistics at 292 USGS streamgages in or adjacent to New York State excluding Long Island. all_sites_wstats.csv - includes 7Q10 and 30Q10 values for all sites and includes information on results from the trend analysis and which sites have daily exceedance probability values available. site_regulated_7day_exc_perc#.csv and site_regulated_30day_exc_perc#.csv files include daily exceedance probability values for all altered sites that were not suitable for calculating low flow statistics. R scripts used to compile and screen streamgage datasets of daily flow, perform trend analysis, and calculate the low streamflow statistics 7Q10 and 30Q10 are included in processing_scripts.zip. Users are encouraged to read the readme file in this zipped file for details on the scripts and associated files used to generate the statistics.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the Long Lake town population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Long Lake town across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of Long Lake town was 788, a 0.63% decrease year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Long Lake town population was 793, an increase of 0.38% compared to a population of 790 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Long Lake town decreased by 62. In this period, the peak population was 850 in the year 2000. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

The EcoTrends project was established in 2004 by Dr. Debra Peters (Jornada Basin LTER, USDA-ARS Jornada Experimental Range) and Dr. Ariel Lugo (Luquillo LTER, USDA-FS Luquillo Experimental Forest) to support the collection and analysis of long-term ecological datasets. The project is a large synthesis effort focused on improving the accessibility and use of long-term data. At present, there are ~50 state and federally funded research sites that are participating and contributing to the EcoTrends project, including all 26 Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites and sites funded by the USDA Agriculture Research Service (ARS), USDA Forest Service, US Department of Energy, US Geological Survey (USGS) and numerous universities. Data from the EcoTrends project are available through an exploratory web portal (http://www.ecotrends.info). This web portal enables the continuation of data compilation and accessibility by users through an interactive web application. Ongoing data compilation is updated through both manual and automatic processing as part of the LTER Provenance Aware Synthesis Tracking Architecture (PASTA). The web portal is a collaboration between the Jornada LTER and the LTER Network Office. The following dataset from Harvard Forest (HFR) contains human population (total) measurements in number units and were aggregated to a yearly timescale.

    Description

The Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) collects crime reports from more than 500 New York State police and sheriffs’ departments. DCJS compiles these reports as New York’s official crime statistics and submits them to the FBI under the National Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. UCR uses standard offense definitions to count crime in localities across America regardless of variations in crime laws from state to state. In New York State, law enforcement agencies use the UCR system to report their monthly crime totals to DCJS. The UCR reporting system collects information on seven crimes classified as Index offenses which are most commonly used to gauge overall crime volume. These include the violent crimes of murder/non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault; and the property crimes of burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. Police agencies may experience reporting problems that preclude accurate or complete reporting. The counts represent only crimes reported to the police but not total crimes that occurred.

    Description

Numbers of Sandplain Gerardia on Long Island increased to approximately 14,000 plants in 2001. In the five year period 1997-2001 numbers of plants have increased more than seven-fold. This success is due to several ongoing actions: management to maintain native grassland habitat suitable for Sandplain Gerardia, fencing to prevent browse damage due to rabbits, and moving seeds to new unoccupied locations at both existing and new population sites.

    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2018-2022 5-Year Estimates. It delineates income distributions across four age groups (Under 25 years, 25 to 44 years, 45 to 64 years, and 65 years and over) following an initial analysis and categorization. Subsequently, we adjusted these figures for inflation using the Consumer Price Index retroactive series via current methods (R-CPI-U-RS). Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset presents the distribution of median household income among distinct age brackets of householders in Suffolk County. Based on the latest 2018-2022 5-Year Estimates from the American Community Survey, it displays how income varies among householders of different ages in Suffolk County. It showcases how household incomes typically rise as the head of the household gets older. The dataset can be utilized to gain insights into age-based household income trends and explore the variations in incomes across households.

    Key observations: Insights from 2022

In terms of income distribution across age cohorts, in Suffolk County, householders within the 45 to 64 years age group have the highest median household income at $152,556, followed by those in the 25 to 44 years age group with an income of $140,317. Meanwhile householders within the 65 years and over age group report the second lowest median household income of $82,369. Notably, householders within the under 25 years age group, had the lowest median household income at $57,237.

    Content

When available, the data consists of estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2018-2022 5-Year Estimates. All incomes have been adjusting for inflation and are presented in 2023-inflation-adjusted dollars.

    Age groups classifications include:

    • Under 25 years
    • 25 to 44 years
    • 45 to 64 years
    • 65 years and over
