    Description

Southeast Asian temperate vegetation develops in mountainous areas at high elevations. Due to the elevation-prone distribution pattern, the temperate forest community is officially denoted a vegetation belt, not a zone. In order to model patterns of the temperate vegetation belt, delimiting the specific upper and lower boundaries of the belt is vital. Yet there is no consensus within scientific research regarding specific elevational boundaries for tropical temperate vegetation. An extensive literature research resulted in a wide collection of elevational boundaries for temperate vegetation within the research area. Using a statistical approach a lower minimal lower boundary of 1000m was inferred.

The contiguous boundaries of the El Pilar Archaeological Reserve for Maya Flora and Fauna in Belize and Guatemala. To locate the boundaries of the El Pilar Reserve correctly one of the original boundary polygon files was edited and adjusted using the corner points and lower boundary points from the 2000 report. (CMC Dec. 2009)This polyline is the boundary of the El Pilar Archaeological Reserve for Maya Flora and Fauna based on ground survey by the El Pilar Project, using Belize Statutory Instrument 54 of 1998 (Gazetted 23rdMay 1998) identifying UTM coordinate 274023E/1908316N and 274023E/1908881N with the Stratton Lease #1879/86 (+/- 62Ha) that coincides with the 2011 National Geographic World Map used by ESRI. Boundaries of Stratton Lease are approximate.

    Description

This master thesis describes the geological mapping of an 8 km**2 area of the 300 m high elevation HEBER in Northern Germany which is part of the Rhüdener Sattel (Harzvorland). The geology consists of mesozoic rocks from Buntsandstein to Keuper; major parts are Muschelkalk, partly covered with a thin layer of Quaternary loess. The map includes measurements of strike and dip in various outcrops, drafting a scetch of the probable tectonic structure of Rühdener Sattel.

The stratigraphic problem of defining the lower boundary of the Adelaide System is discussed in relation to the geology of several critical areas in the Adelaide Geosyncline and adjacent shelf platform. The Precambrian stratigraphic succession and geological history is outlined with the aid of Rb/Sr age determinations made by W. Compston of Australian National University. It is concluded that the lower boundary of the Adelaide System is related to the collapse of older basement positive areas on which had developed a regional erosional surface. The surface is defined by the Callanna Beds, the oldest deposits of Willouran age. Willouran sedimentation began sometime between 1340m and 1490m years. Erosion of the basement rocks probably occupied a major earlier part of this time interval.

    Description

Using a standard New Keynesian model, we show that moderate side effects of zero lower bound (ZLB) policy suffice for positive lower bound (PLB) policy to pay off in terms of welfare, especially when central banks fail to commit. For given side effects of the ZLB, as the shock that makes the ZLB bind becomes larger and more persistent, the dominance of PLB policy over ZLB policy becomes more likely. The findings hold for flexible and rigid economies with both fast and slow potential output growth and low and high inflation targets.

    Description

This paper employs a zero lower bound (ZLB) consistent shadow-rate model to decompose UK nominal yields into expectation and term premium components. Compared to a standard affine term structure model, it performs relatively better in a ZLB setting by capturing the stylized facts of the yield curve. The ZLB model is then exploited to estimate inflation expectations and risk premiums. This entails jointly pricing and decomposing nominal and real UK yields. We find evidence that medium? and long-term inflation expectations are contained within narrower bounds since the early 1990s, suggesting monetary policy credibility improved after the introduction of inflation targeting.

    Description

We consider the problem of estimating the volume of a compact domain in a Euclidean space based on a uniform sample from the domain. We assume that the domain has a boundary with positive reach. We propose a data-splitting approach to correct the bias of the plug-in estimator based on the sample α-convex hull. We show that this simple estimator achieves a minimax lower bound that we derive. Some numerical experiments corroborate our theoretical findings. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.
