DFES – ENWL Lower Level Super Output Areas (LSOA) Data

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) make available the Lower layer Super Output Areas (LSOA) dataset. The individual areas are described as comprising between 400 and 1,200 households and have a usually resident population between 1,000 and 3,000 persons.

This dataset contains the LSOA Polygons (sourced from ONS) which have been cropped to only reflect the polygons - or sections thereof, which fall within the Electricity North West Control Boundary

    Description

The Modernising Energy Data Access (MEDA) competition was set up by Innovate UK and the Modernising Energy Data group to help develop the concept of a Common Data Architecture (CDA) for the Energy Sector. One of the main goals of the Common Data Architecture is to improve data sharing across the energy sector and make data more interoperable across organisations. Energy Consumption is one of the most sought after datasets needed by the organisations that we have worked with throughout a variety of the Modernising Energy Data projects, and although getting a household level of this information comes against GDPR challenges and is therefore non-accessible for the vast majority of organisations, breaking consumption down into smaller areas can be hugely beneficial for gaining insights into how energy is consumed within the UK. We have amalgamated Gas and Electricity consumption per Lower Layer Super Output Area (LSOA) which is available to download via file transfer, or via API

This is the Lower Super Output areas for England and Wales for 2011. The digital boundaries for 2011 output areas, super output areas (LSOAs and MSOAs) and workplace zones for England and Wales are available to download. These boundaries are for users to input into their own geographical information systems to carry out spatial analysis or visualisation. Boundaries for each geography are created at full resolution, generalised (to 20 metres) and clipped to the coastline. Data sourced from ONS - http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/geography/products/census/spatial/2011/index.html Data made available Under the terms of the Open Government Licence (OGL) and UK Government Licensing Framework (launched 30 September 2010), anyone wishing to use or re-use ONS material, whether commercially or privately, may do so freely without a specific application for a licence, subject to the conditions of the OGL and the Framework. Description

Public Transport Accessibility Levels (PTAL) are aggregated at the Lower Layer Super Output Area (LSOA) level, a standard geographical unit in the UK. This dataset includes summary statistics (min, max, and mean PTAL scores) per LSOA. The aggregation is based on Access Index values of PTAL (Public Transport Accessibility Level) dataset. PTAL dataset measures accessibility to public transport services across Greater London using a 100m x 100m grid resolution. PTAL scores are derived from walking times to nearby public transport services and service frequencies. This granular dataset is aggregated to the LSOA level. The mean of PTAL is calculated based on access indices of grid centroids within each LSOA and classified into six PTAL categories again. Similarly, the minimum and maximum values are identified using grid centroids within each LSOA. The spatial boundary layer displaying LSOAs on the map sourced from Office for National Statistics licensed under the Open Government Licence v.3.0.

    Description

The publication provides detailed geographical counts, at Lower Layer Super Output Area (LSOA) and Scottish Data Zone level, of the number of families and children in families in receipt of tax credits, as at 31 August 2020.

    Introductory note

The tables in this release show the number of families benefiting from Child Tax Credit (CTC) and Working Tax Credit (WTC) in each LSOA or Data Zone and the number of children in these families.

CTC and WTC are awards for tax years, but the entitlement level can vary over the year as families’ circumstances change. These tables are based on families’ entitlements at 31 August 2020, given the family size, hours worked, childcare costs and disabilities at that date, and their latest reported incomes.

This date was selected because it is the reference date for published Child Benefit statistics - including, for England, Wales, at LSOA level and for Scotland at Data Zone level.

This data and similar geographical statistics, down to Lower Layer Super Output Area in England and Wales, Data Zones in Scotland and Output Areas in Northern Ireland, may also be available from the following sites:

DFES – ENWL Lower Level Super Output Areas (LSOA) Data

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) make available the Lower layer Super Output Areas (LSOA) dataset. The individual areas are described as comprising between 400 and 1,200 households and have a usually resident population between 1,000 and 3,000 persons.

This dataset contains the LSOA Polygons (sourced from ONS) which have been cropped to only reflect the polygons - or sections thereof, which fall within the Electricity North West Control Boundary
