    The value of imported goods into Norway increased over the past decade. In 2012, Norway imported goods worth around 508 billion Norwegian kroner. 10 years later in 2022, the value peaked at 1027 billion kroner. That was around 180 billion kroner more than the year before, indicating that the year-on-year increase was huge compared to previous years.

    Most important trading partners

    Not surprisingly, Norway imports a great amount of goods from surrounding countries like Sweden, Denmark, and Germany. In 2021, however, the main import partner of Norway was China, with an import value exceeding 113 billion Norwegian kroner. In terms of exports, most goods were exported from Norway to the United Kingdom that same year, followed by Germany and the Netherlands.

    What does Norway import?

    Roughly half of all goods imported into Norway is machinery and transport equipment. Goods worth over 328 billion Norwegian kroner were imported from this commodity group in 2021. On the other hand, mineral fuels and lubricants is the most exported commodity group, followed by food and live animals. Norway is particularly known for exporting oil, natural gas, and salmon.
