States ranked by gender ratio, 2000 according to the U.S. government

In 2020, the male-female ratio in Mexico State remained nearly unchanged at around 94.4 men per 100 women. Over the observed period, the ratio has been subject to fluctuation.For more insights about the male-female ratio consider different countries: In 2020, in comparison to Mexico State, the ratio in Puebla was lower, while it was higher in Chiapas.

The southern state of Kerala had the highest gender ratio based on registered births, with 974 females per 1,000 males between 2018 and 2020. In contrast, Uttarakhand had a gender ratio of 844 females for every 1,000 males. India's average gender ratio was 907 during the measured time period.

Worldwide, the male population is slightly higher than the female population, although this varies by country. As of 2023, Hong Kong has the highest share of women worldwide with almost 55 percent. Moldova followed behind with 54 percent. Among the countries with the largest share of women in the total population, several were former Soviet-states or were located in Eastern Europe. As of 2024, the number of women exceeded that of men in Russia in all age categories above 30 years. The lowest female-to-male ratio was recorded among Russians between 20 and 24 years old, measuring at 932 women per 1,000 men.
