A lookup between postcodes and postcode sectors, postcode districts and postcode areas as at March 2021 in England and Wales (File size 5MB).

Zip Codes (5-digit). The dataset polygons represent location and attributes of zip codes, created as part of the DC Geographic Information System (DC GIS) for the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and participating D.C. government agencies. Zip Codes were identified from public records (US Postal Service) and created selecting arcs from the street centerlines and vector property map.

This is the ONS Postcode Directory (ONSPD) for the United Kingdom as at February 2023 in Comma Separated Variable (CSV) and ASCII text (TXT) formats. This file contains the multi CSVs so that postcode areas can be opened in MS Excel. To download the zip file click the Download button. The ONSPD relates both current and terminated postcodes in the United Kingdom to a range of current statutory administrative, electoral, health and other area geographies. It also links postcodes to pre-2002 health areas, 1991 Census enumeration districts for England and Wales, 2001 Census Output Areas (OA) and Super Output Areas (SOA) for England and Wales, 2001 Census OAs and SOAs for Northern Ireland and 2001 Census OAs and Data Zones (DZ) for Scotland. It now contains 2021 Census OAs and SOAs for England and Wales. It helps support the production of area based statistics from postcoded data. The ONSPD is produced by ONS Geography, who provide geographic support to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and geographic services used by other organisations. The ONSPD is issued quarterly. (File size - 234 MB)NOTE: The 2022 ONSPDs included an incorrect update of the ITL field with two LA changes in Northamptonshire. This error has been corrected from the February 2023 ONSPD.NOTE: There was an issue with the originally published file where some change orders yet to be included in OS Boundary-LineÔ (including The Cumbria (Structural Changes) Order 2022, The North Yorkshire (Structural Changes) Order 2022 and The Somerset (Structural Changes) Order 2022) were mistakenly implemented for terminated postcodes. Version 2 corrects this, so that ward codes E05014171–E05014393 are not yet included. Unlike in the United States, postal codes do not allow for a geographical division of the country. The same postal code can be used for addresses in several municipalities, and a municipality may have addresses with different postal codes. For more information, see article on Wikipedia.

Very exceptionally, it may be useful to have contours, especially when a procedure is built exclusively on the entry of a postal code.

This dataset contains a polygon by postal code significantly used in the National Address Base. Each polygon is a simple convex envelope around addresses using the same postal code. The polygons overlap quite widely.

Two attributes are proposed: ‘Codepostal’ and ‘nbNumeros’ (number of addresses attached in the BAN).

Open Postcode Geo is a postcode dataset and API optimised for geocoding applications. You can use Open Postcode Geo to geocode a dataset, geocode user input, and therefore build a proximity search.

Data is derived from the ONS (Office for National Statistics) postcode database and is free to use, subject to including attributions to ONS, OS (Ordinance Survey) and Royal Mail.

Information is also provided on a range of topics, including education, health, crime, business, etc.

Postcodes can be entered at area, district, sector, and unit level - see Postcode map for the geographical relationship between these.

This dataset is based on the data provided by the Central Bureau voor de Statistiek on different statistical metrics at the postcode level.Only the 4-digit postcodes (PC4) are available, the 5-digit and 6-digit are not freely available from the Dutch authorities.Enhancements- add administrative hierarchy: Gemeenten and Provincie.

Postal Areas (POA)

Postal Areas (POAs) are designed to approximate postcode boundaries, as closely as possible. There is not a one-for-one correspondence between Australia Post postcodes and POAs, but these are a good starting point for comparison of Census data with other data collected using postcodes.

Census Postal Areas exclude non-mappable Australia Post postcodes such as:

• post office box postcodes
• some delivery route postcodes, which are also covered by other postcodes (a situation which often occurs in rural areas)
• some postcodes which, because of the application of the 'best fit' principle, do not get a Mesh Block allocated to them.

MassGIS had received quarterly updates of these data as part of its license for the HERE (Navteq) core map release (streets and related data); however, that license has expired. These ZIP Code boundaries are aligned to the street centerlines of the Q2 2018 HERE product (with a release date of April 1, 2018) and use a then-recent USPS source file.In March 2024, MassGIS modified the boundaries for all ZIP Code areas in Boston based on the U.S. Postal Service's ZIP Code Look Up by Address website. MassGIS also added polygons for ZIP Codes 02199 and 02203.Five-digit ZIP Codes were developed by the USPS and first introduced in 1963 for efficient mail delivery (the term ZIP stands for Zone Improvement Plan) but are difficult to map with complete certainty. In most cases, addresses in close proximity to each other are grouped in the same ZIP Code, which gives the appearance that ZIP Codes are defined by a clear geographic boundary. However, even when ZIP Codes appear to be geographically grouped, a clear ZIP Code boundary cannot always be drawn because ZIP Codes are only assigned to a point of delivery and not the spaces between delivery points. In areas without a regular postal route or no mail delivery, ZIP Codes may not be defined or have unclear boundaries.The USPS does not maintain an official ZIP Code map. The Census Bureau and many other commercial services will interpolate the data to create polygons to represent the approximate area covered by a ZIP code, but none of these maps are official or entirely accurate. The topographical state map 1 : 250,000 - edition with postcodes - provides an overview of all postcodes and postcode zone boundaries in the state of Brandenburg. In addition, the administrative borders from the municipality to the state border are shown on a topographical basis. This map is available in plano as a plot.

For many countries lat/lng are determined with an algorithm that searches the place names in the main geonames database using administrative divisions and numerical vicinity of the postal codes as factors in the disambiguation of place names. For postal codes and place name for which no corresponding toponym in the main geonames database could be found an average lat/lng of 'neighbouring' postal codes is calculated.
