    Description

This dataset represents the National Parks of the UK. A representative map has been included to provide an overview of the data. Most areas are tagged with the park name, although where the park is made up from a number of small polygons, only the large ones have complete attributes. This dataset was created from OS Strategi data. Data was procesed in ArcGIS to polygonise the lines and then combine the text features to add attribute information about the individual parks. OS Strategi should be acknowledged as the source when this dataset is re-used, this is in accordance with the OS OpenData licence which is Creative Commons Attribution. GIS vector data. This dataset was first accessioned in the EDINA ShareGeo Open repository on 2011-03-02 and migrated to Edinburgh DataShare on 2017-02-21.

The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park was established in July 2002 under The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Designation, Transitional and Consequential Provisions (Scotland) Order 2002. In the designation Order, the boundary is defined by the line on the deposited map. This dataset represents that line. The aim of Scotland's National Parks is to deliver better management of areas of outstanding natural and cultural heritage. They aim to: conserve and enhance the natural and cultural heritage, promote the sustainable use of natural resources of the area, promote understanding and enjoyment (including enjoyment in the form of recreation) of the special qualities of the area by the public and promote sustainable social and economic development of the communities of the area.

    Description

The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority and Natural Resources Wales have completed a joint project to ensure that the boundary of the National Park best represents the designated National Park boundary (including the variation order) produced in 1955 and 1966 respectively.

The original documents consisted of a written description and two 1 inch to 1 mile paper maps. Although these remain the legal documents, an accurate digital boundary was required to make sure that there is clarity on where the boundary line actually is in relation to the ground.

    Description

This spatial dataset is an output of the Natural England County & City Natural Capital Atlas project (July 2020). It shows variation in ecosystem service flow for habitats across England, based on indicators identified by NE in the 2018 Natural Capital Indicators project. The dataset comprises a hexagonal grid which summarises indicator values across the country (each unit = 5km²).

Natural Capital is an important aspect of current environmental policy and management. This dataset, in combination with the other project outputs, will support understanding of Natural Capital in England and serve as a valuable engagement tool to communicate concepts of the Natural Capital approach to a wide variety of stakeholders.

For full methodology and user guide see documents ‘NCAtlas_Devon’ and ‘NC-Mapping-User-Guidance’ at http://publications.naturalengland.org.uk/publication/6672365834731520.

    Description

The files linked to this reference are the geospatial data created as part of the completion of the baseline vegetation inventory project for the NPS park unit. Current format is ArcGIS file geodatabase but older formats may exist as shapefiles.

Several imagery sources were used to derive the vegetation map, primarily Light Imaging and Detection Radar (LiDAR) and aerial imagery from the National Agriculture Imagery Program. The eCognition software package and Berkley Imaging Segmentation was used to create the initial image segments and polygon map. The mean values of variable inputs were summarized for each of the training data polygons and were used to generate a predictive non-parametric model using RandomForest in the statistical program R. The model was then applied to all polygons. The resulting draft map was reviewed by experts familiar with the vegetation types of the area. The final map includes 24 classes, representing 3 land cover types and 21 alliance-based map classes. A field-based, blind random sample accuracy assessment of the map was carried out in mid-August 2011 and December 2011. A total of 175 accuracy assessment points were collected. Based on the assessment, the total map accuracy was 88.9%, exceeding the program standard of 80%.

    Description

The Unpublished Digital Surficial Geologic-GIS Map of Gateway National Recreation Area and Vicinity, New Jersey and New York is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables in a 10.1 file geodatabase (gwsf_geology.gdb), a 10.1 ArcMap (.MXD) map document (gwsf_geology.mxd), individual 10.1 layer (.LYR) files for each GIS data layer, an ancillary map information (.PDF) document (gate_geology.pdf) which contains source map unit descriptions, as well as other source map text, figures and tables, metadata in FGDC text (.TXT) and FAQ (.HTML) formats, and a GIS readme file (gwsf_gis_readme.pdf). Please read the gwsf_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the file geodatabase and other map files. To request GIS data in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format contact Stephanie O’Meara (stephanie.omeara@colostate.edu; see contact information below). The data is also available as a 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. Google Earth software is available for free at: http://www.google.com/earth/index.html. Users are encouraged to only use the Google Earth data for basic visualization, and to use the GIS data for any type of data analysis or investigation. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). Source geologic maps and data used to complete this GRI digital dataset were provided by the following: New Jersey Geological Survey and New York State Museum. Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation section(s) of this metadata record (gwsf_metadata_faq.html; available at http://nrdata.nps.gov/geology/gri_data/gis/gate/gwsf_metadata_faq.html). Users of this data are cautioned about the locational accuracy of features within this dataset. Based on the source map scale of 1:100,000 and United States National Map Accuracy Standards features are within (horizontally) 127 meters or 416.7 feet of their actual location as presented by this dataset. Users of this data should thus not assume the location of features is exactly where they are portrayed in Google Earth, ArcGIS or other software used to display this dataset. All GIS and ancillary tables were produced as per the NPS GRI Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model v. 2.3. (available at: http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/inventory/geology/GeologyGISDataModel.cfm). The GIS data projection is NAD83, UTM Zone 18N, however, for the KML/KMZ format the data is projected upon export to WGS84 Geographic, the native coordinate system used by Google Earth. The data is within the area of interest of Gateway National Recreation Area.

    Description

The Wader Zonal Map – a.k.a. Wader Sensitivity Map (WSM) and Breeding Wader Sensitivity Map – was produced by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) in partnership with the Forestry Commission and the Cairngorm National Park Authority. This layer shows the predicted relative abundance of ten species of breeding wader for each 1km square of England, Scotland and Wales. Predicted relative abundances are categorised into five strata identified by numbers under the two-letter code in the attribute table. The two-letter codes are: [cu] – Curlew [l] – Lapwing [rk] – Redshank [sn] – Snipe [oc] – Oystercatcher [gp] – Golden Plover [dn] – Dunlin [cs] – Common Sandpiper [rp] – Ringed Plover [gk] – Greenshank. Predictions were derived using statistical models (random forest regression tree) with bird data taken from the BTO/SOC/BWI Bird Atlas (which covered the period 2008 – 11) and a range of environmental data sets, including climate (temperature and precipitation), topography (elevation and slope), habitat, wind farms and roads and predation risk. While overall the predictive models performed well as assessed by correlation with empirical data, it must be emphasised that these are predictions which will not be accurate in all cases. Full details of the models, sources of data and fuller discussion of the predictive capabilities and limitations of the models are found in the associated report, O’Connell et al. 2021. This report (https://www.bto.org/our-science/publications/research-reports/sensitivity-mapping-breeding-waders-britain-towards) should be referred to when using this data. Additional attribute fields: [ONEKMREF] = the OS monad reference. [Cntry] = the GB country into which the 1km grid square falls – where a grid square is cross-border this is coded as such. Coding: 1 – England, 2- Scotland, 3 – Wales, 4 – England and Scotland, 5 – England and Wales.

    Description

Section 3 Woodland. Section 3 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1985 requires the National Park Authority to prepare a map showing areas of mountain, moor, heath, woodland, down, cliff or foreshore whose natural beauty are important to conserve. In addition to its natural beauty this area is also valuable for its ecological, archaeological and recreational importance. The map gives an overall impression of the distribution of woodland and those areas which are considered particularly important to retain. This dataset was superseded in June 2013 by a new dataset known as "Woodland of Conservation Importance".
