The boundaries available are: Generalised Clipped (BGC) - Generalised to 20m and clipped to the coastline (Mean High Water mark) and more generalised than the BFE boundaries.

This dataset is part of the Geographical repository maintained by Opendatasoft. This dataset contains data for regions in the United Kingdom.Government offices for the regions (GOR) were established across England in 1994. Reflecting a number of government departments, their aim was to work in partnership with local people and organisations in order to maximise prosperity and the quality of life within their area. In 1996 the GORs became the primary classification for the presentation of regional statistics. GORs were built up of complete counties/unitary authorities, so although they were subject to change, they always reflected administrative boundaries as at the end of the previous year. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were not subdivided into GORs but are listed with them as regions in UK-wide statistical comparisons. After the Comprehensive Spending Review, it was confirmed that the GORs would close on 31 March 2011, shifting focus away from regions to local areas. However, there is still a requirement to maintain a region-level geography for statistical purposes. To that end, the data provided for regions includes Monmouthshire within the “Welsh counties”.However, for the purposes of the 1921 Census outputs, Monmouthshire was generally included within England. In some of the printed tables, figures were given for both “England including Monmouthshire” and “England excluding Monmouthshire”, likewise for Wales. These additional breakdowns are not being included within the digitised data at this time and for the purposes of dissemination on Nomis, Monmouthshire has been included within England only to align with the majority of printed tables. As such, any user aggregated data from regions to country will not match figures given for England and for Wales on Nomis.

This is a spatial dataset which defines the regions for the Living England Phase IV habitat classification. 14 regions were created in England to balance resource requirements and scalability. The regions are based on National Character Areas which are grouped such that each region is covered by a single European Space Agency Sentinel-2 satellite orbit (with the exception of Zone 10 in the SE which is covered by two orbits), and such that the regions are approximately similar in size.
