    Description

    In late 1996, the Dept of Conservation (DOC) surveyed state and federal agencies about the county boundary coverage they used. As a result, DOC adopted the 1:24,000 (24K) scale U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) dataset (USGS source) for their Farmland Mapping and Monitoring Program (FMMP) but with several modifications. Detailed documentation of these changes is provided by FMMP and included in the lineage section of the metadata.A dataset was made available (approximately 2004) through CALFIRE - FRAP and the California Spatial Information Library (CaSIL), with additional updates throughout subsequent years. More recently, an effort was made to improve the coastal linework by using the previous interior linework from the 24k data, but replacing the coastal linework based on NOAA's ERMA coastal dataset (which used NAIP 2010). In this dataset, all bays (plus bay islands and constructed features) are merged into the mainland, and coastal features (such as islands and constructed features) are not included, with the exception of the Channel Islands which ARE included.This service represents the latest released version, and is updated when new versions are released. As of June, 2019 it represents cnty19_1.

Some differences may occur between actual recorded boundaries and boundary placement in the tax rate area GIS map. Tax rate area boundaries are representations of taxing jurisdictions for the purpose of determining property tax assessments and should not be used to determine precise city or county boundary line locations.     This map includes change areas for city and county boundaries filed in accordance with Government Code 54900. The initial dataset was first published on October 20, 2021, and was based on the State Board of Equalization's tax rate area boundaries. As of April 1, 2024, the maintenance of this dataset is provided by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration for the purpose of determining sales and use tax jurisdictions. The boundaries are continuously being revised when areas of conflict are discovered between the original boundary provided by the California State Board of Equalization and the boundary made publicly available by local, state, and federal government. Some differences may occur between actual recorded boundaries and the boundaries used for sales and use tax purposes.     This digital map database represents the general distribution of bedrock and surficial geologic units, and related data in the Fonts Point and Seventeen Palms 7.5’ quadrangles, California. The database delineates map units that are identified by general age and lithology following the stratigraphic nomenclature of the U.S. Geological Survey. This investigation delineates the geologic framework of an area of 75 square kilometers (km2) located west of the Salton Sea in southern California. The study area encompasses the south flank of the Santa Rosa Mountains and the eastern part of the Borrego Badlands. In this study area, regionally important stratigraphic and structural elements collectively inform the late Cenozoic geologic evolution of the Anza-Borrego sector of the Salton Trough province.     Description

    The 1998 Dress Rehearsal was conducted as a prelude to the United States Census of Population and Housing, 2000, in the following locations: (1) Columbia, South Carolina, and surrounding areas, including the town of Irmo and the counties of Chester, Chesterfield, Darlington, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lee, Marlboro, Newberry, Richland, and Union, (2) Sacramento, California, and (3) Menominee County, Wisconsin, including the Menominee American Indian Reservation. This collection contains map files showing various levels of geography (in the form of Census Tract Outline Maps, Voting District/State Legislative District Outline Maps, and County Block Maps), TIGER/Line digital files, and Corner Point files for the Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal sites. The Corner Point data files contain the bounding latitude and longitude coordinates for each individual map sheet of the 1998 Dress Rehearsal Public Law (P.L.) 94-171 map products. These files include a sheet identifier, minimum and maximum longitude, minimum and maximum latitude, and the map scale (integer value) for each map sheet. The latitude and longitude coordinates are in decimal degrees and expressed as integer values with six implied decimal places. There is a separate Corner Point File for each of the three map types: County Block Map, Census Tract Outline Map, and Voting District/State Legislative District Outline Map. Each of the three map file types is provided in two formats: Portable Document Format (PDF), for viewing, and Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language (HP-GL) format, for plotting. The County Block Maps show the greatest detail and the most complete set of geographic information of all the maps. These large-scale maps depict the smallest geographic entities for which the Census Bureau presents data -- the census blocks -- by displaying the features that delineate them and the numbers that identify them. These maps show the boundaries, names, and codes for American Indian/Alaska Native areas, county subdivisions, places, census tracts, and, for this series, the geographic entities that the states delineated in Phase 2, Voting District Project, of the Redistricting Data Program. The HP-GL version of the County Block Maps is broken down into index maps and map sheets. The map sheets cover a small area, and the index maps are composed of multiple map sheets, showing the entire area. The intent of the County Block Map series is to provide a map for each county on the smallest possible number of map sheets at the maximum practical scale, dependent on the area size of the county and the density of the block pattern. The latter affects the display of block numbers and feature identifiers. The Census Tract Outline Maps show the boundaries and numbers of census tracts, and name the features underlying the boundaries. These maps also show the boundaries and names of counties, county subdivisions, and places. They identify census tracts in relation to governmental unit boundaries. The mapping unit is the county. These large-format maps are produced to support the P.L. 94-171 program and all other 1998 Dress Rehearsal data tabulations. The Voting District/State Legislative District Outline Maps show the boundaries and codes for voting districts as delineated by the states in Phase 2, Voting District Project, of the Redistricting Data Program. The features underlying the voting district boundaries are shown, as well as the names of these features. Additionally, for states that submit the information, these maps show the boundaries and codes for state legislative districts and their underlying features. These maps also show the boundaries of and names of American Indian/Alaska Native areas, counties, county subdivisions, and places. The scale of the district maps is optimized to keep the number of map sheets for each area to a minimum, but the scale and number of map sheets will vary by the area size of the county and the voting districts and state legislative districts delineated by the states. The Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal TIGER/Line Files consist of line segments representing physical features and governmental and statistical boundaries.     Description

    The California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) contracted with the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) and Aerial Information Systems (AIS) to produce an alliance-level, vegetation classification and map of Western Riverside County, California. The resulting classification and map products will be used to help establish a monitoring basis for the vegetation and habitats of the Western Riverside County Multi-Species Habitat Conservation Plan (MSHCP). The plan aims to conserve over 500,000 acres of land out of the 1.26 million acre total. This area is the largest MSHCP ever attempted and is an integral piece of the network of Southern California Habitat Conservation Plans and Natural Community Conservation Planning (Dudek 2001, Dudek 2003). Riverside County is one of the fastest growing counties in California, as well as one of the most biodiverse counties in the United States. A wide array of habitats are found within the non-developed lands in Western Riverside County, including coastal sage scrub, vernal pools, montane coniferous forest, chaparral, foothill woodland, annual grassland, and desert. In the CNPS contract, vegetation resources were assessed quantitatively through field surveys, data analysis, and final vegetation classification. Field survey data were analyzed statistically to come up with a floristically-based classification. Each vegetation type sampled was classified according to the National Vegetation Classification System to the alliance level (and association level if possible). The vegetation alliances were described floristically and environmentally in standard descriptions, and a final key was produced to differentiate among 101 alliances, 169 associations, and 3 unique stands (for final report, see http://maps.dfg.ca.gov/references/ds170 ). The physiography of the area consists of the dry lake, flanking mud and sand flats and alluvial piedmonts, and a few sharp craggy mountains. This digital geologic map database, intended for use at 1:24,000- scale, describes and portrays the rock units and surficial deposits of the El Mirage Lake area. It was prepared as part of a water-resource assessments of the area, describing and interpreting surface geology that provides information to help understand distribution and extent of deeper groundwater-bearing units. The area mapped covers the Shadow Mountains SE and parts of the Shadow Mountains, Adobe Mountain, and El Mirage 7.5-minute quadrangles.     Description

    In 2012, the CPUC ordered the development of a statewide map that is designed specifically for the purpose of identifying areas where there is an increased risk for utility associated wildfires. The development of the CPUC -sponsored fire-threat map, herein "CPUC Fire-Threat Map," started in R.08-11-005 and continued in R.15-05-006.

    A multistep process was used to develop the statewide CPUC Fire-Threat Map. The first step was to develop Fire Map 1 (FM 1), an agnostic map which depicts areas of California where there is an elevated hazard for the ignition and rapid spread of powerline fires due to strong winds, abundant dry vegetation, and other environmental conditions. These are the environmental conditions associated with the catastrophic powerline fires that burned 334 square miles of Southern California in October 2007. FM 1 was developed by CAL FIRE and adopted by the CPUC in Decision 16-05-036.

    FM 1 served as the foundation for the development of the final CPUC Fire-Threat Map. The CPUC Fire-Threat Map delineates, in part, the boundaries of a new High Fire-Threat District (HFTD) where utility infrastructure and operations will be subject to stricter fire‑safety regulations. Importantly, the CPUC Fire-Threat Map (1) incorporates the fire hazards associated with historical powerline wildfires besides the October 2007 fires in Southern California (e.g., the Butte Fire that burned 71,000 acres in Amador and Calaveras Counties in September 2015), and (2) ranks fire-threat areas based on the risks that utility-associated wildfires pose to people and property.

    Primary responsibility for the development of the CPUC Fire-Threat Map was delegated to a group of utility mapping experts known as the Peer Development Panel (PDP), with oversight from a team of independent experts known as the Independent Review Team (IRT). The members of the IRT were selected by CAL FIRE and CAL FIRE served as the Chair of the IRT. The development of CPUC Fire-Threat Map includes input from many stakeholders, including investor-owned and publicly owned electric utilities, communications infrastructure providers, public interest groups, and local public safety agencies.

    The PDP served a draft statewide CPUC Fire-Threat Map on July 31, 2017, which was subsequently reviewed by the IRT. On October 2 and October 5, 2017, the PDP filed an Initial CPUC Fire-Threat Map that reflected the results of the IRT's review through September 25, 2017. The final IRT-approved CPUC Fire-Threat Map was filed on November 17, 2017. On November 21, 2017, SED filed on behalf of the IRT a summary report detailing the production of the CPUC Fire-Threat Map(referenced at the time as Fire Map 2). Interested parties were provided opportunity to submit alternate maps, written comments on the IRT-approved map and alternate maps (if any), and motions for Evidentiary Hearings. No motions for Evidentiary Hearings or alternate map proposals were received. As such, on January 19, 2018 the CPUC adopted, via Safety and Enforcement Division's (SED) disposition of a Tier 1 Advice Letter, the final CPUC Fire-Threat Map.

    Description

    California State Lands Commission Offshore Oil Leases in the vicinity of Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Orange County.The polygons in this layer show the position of Offshore Oil Leases as documented by former State Lands Senior Boundary Determination Officer, Cris N. Perez and as reviewed and updated by GIS and Boundary staff.Background: This layer represents active offshore oil and gas agreements in California waters, which are what remain of the more than 60 originally issued. These leases were issued prior to the catastrophic 1969 oil spill from Platform A in federal waters off Santa Barbara County, and some predate the formation of the Commission. Between 2010 and 2014, the bulk of the approximately $300 million generated annually for the state's General Fund from oil and gas agreements was from these offshore leases.In 1921, the Legislature created the first tidelands oil and gas leasing program. Between 1921 and 1929, approximately 100 permits and leases were issued and over 850 wells were drilled in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. In 1929, the Legislature prohibited any new leases or permits. In 1933, however, the prohibition was partially lifted in response to an alleged theft of tidelands oil in Huntington Beach. It wasn't until 1938, and again in 1955, that the Legislature would allow new offshore oil and gas leasing. Except for limited circumstances, the Legislature has consistently placed limits on the areas that the Commission may offer for lease and in 1994, placed the entirety of California's coast off-limits to new oil and gas leases. Layer Creation Process:In 1997 Cris N. Perez, Senior Boundary Determination Officer of the Southern California Section of the State Lands Division, prepared a report on the Commission’s Offshore Oil Leases to:A. Show the position of Offshore Oil Leases. B. Produce a hard copy of 1927 NAD Coordinates for each lease. C. Discuss any problems evident after plotting the leases.Below are some of the details Cris included in the report:I have plotted the leases that were supplied to me by the Long Beach Office and computed 1927 NAD California Coordinates for each one. Where the Mean High Tide Line (MHTL) was called for and not described in the deed, I have plotted the California State Lands Commission CB Map Coordinates, from the actual field surveys of the Mean High Water Line and referenced them wherever used. Where the MHTL was called for and not described in the deed and no California State Lands Coordinates were available, I digitized the maps entitled, “Map of the Offshore Ownership Boundary of the State of California Drawn pursuant to the Supplemental Decree of the U.S. Supreme Court in the U.S. V. California, 382 U.S. 448 (1966), Scale 1:10000 Sheets 1-161.” The shore line depicted on these maps is the Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) Line as shown on the Hydrographic or Topographic Sheets for the coastline. If a better fit is needed, a field survey to position this line will need to be done.The coordinates listed in Cris’ report were retrieved through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and used to produce GIS polygons using Esri ArcGIS software. Coordinates were checked after the OCR process when producing the polygons in ArcMap to ensure accuracy. Original Coordinate systems (NAD 1927 California State Plane Zones 5 and 6) were used initially, with each zone being reprojected to NAD 83 Teale Albers Meters and merged after the review process.While Cris’ expertise and documentation were relied upon to produce this GIS Layer, certain polygons were reviewed further for any potential updates since Cris’ document and for any unusual geometry. Boundary Determination Officers addressed these issues and plotted leases currently listed as active, but not originally in Cris’ report. On December 24, 2014, the SLA boundary offshore of California was fixed (permanently immobilized) by a decree issued by the U.S. Supreme Court United States v. California, 135 S. Ct. 563 (2014). Offshore leases were clipped so as not to exceed the limits of this fixed boundary. Lease Notes:PRC 1482The “lease area” for this lease is based on the Compensatory Royalty Agreement dated 1-21-1955 as found on the CSLC Insider. The document spells out the distinction between “leased lands” and “state lands”. The leased lands are between two private companies and the agreement only makes a claim to the State’s interest as those lands as identified and surveyed per the map Tract 893, Bk 27 Pg 24. The map shows the State’s interest as being confined to the meanders of three sloughs, one of which is severed from the bay (Anaheim) by a Tideland sale. It should be noted that the actual sovereign tide and or submerged lands for this area is all those historic tide and submerged lands minus and valid tide land sales patents. The three parcels identified were also compared to what the Orange County GIS land records system has for their parcels. Shapefiles were downloaded from that site as well as two centerline monuments for 2 roads covered by the Tract 893. It corresponded well, so their GIS linework was held and clipped or extended to make a parcel.MJF Boundary Determination Officer 12/19/16PRC 3455The “lease area” for this lease is based on the Tract No. 2 Agreement, Long Beach Unit, Wilmington Oil Field, CA dated 4/01/1965 and found on the CSLC insider (also recorded March 12, 1965 in Book M 1799, Page 801).Unit Operating Agreement, Long Beach Unit recorded March 12, 1965 in Book M 1799 page 599.“City’s Portion of the Offshore Area” shall mean the undeveloped portion of the Long Beach tidelands as defined in Section 1(f) of Chapter 138, and includes Tract No. 1”“State’s Portion of the Offshore Area” shall mean that portion of the Alamitos Beach Park Lands, as defined in Chapter 138, included within the Unit Area and includes Tract No. 2.”“Alamitos Beach Park Lands” means those tidelands and submerged lands, whether filled or unfilled, described in that certain Judgment After Remittitur in The People of the State of California v. City of Long Beach, Case No. 683824 in the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Los Angeles, dated May 8, 1962, and entered on May 15, 1962 in Judgment Book 4481, at Page 76, of the Official Records of the above entitled court”*The description for Tract 2 has an EXCEPTING (statement) “therefrom that portion lying Southerly of the Southerly line of the Boundary of Subsidence Area, as shown on Long Beach Harbor Department {LBHD} Drawing No. D-98. This map could not be found in records nor via a PRA request to the LBHD directly. Some maps were located that show the extents of subsidence in this area being approximately 700 feet waterward of the MHTL as determined by SCC 683824. Although the “EXCEPTING” statement appears to exclude most of what would seem like the offshore area (out to 3 nautical miles from the MHTL which is different than the actual CA offshore boundary measured from MLLW) the 1964, ch 138 grant (pg25) seems to reference the lands lying seaward of that MHTL and ”westerly of the easterly boundary of the undeveloped portion of the Long Beach tidelands, the latter of which is the same boundary (NW) of tract 2. This appears to then indicate that the “EXCEPTING” area is not part of the Lands Granted to City of Long Beach and appears to indicate that this portion might be then the “State’s Portion of the Offshore Area” as referenced in the Grant and the Unit Operating Agreement. Section “f” in the CSLC insider document (pg 9) defines the Contract Lands: means Tract No. 2 as described in Exhibit “A” to the Unit Agreement, and as shown on Exhibit “B” to the Unit Agreement, together with all other lands within the State’s Portion of the Offshore Area.Linework has been plotted in accordance with the methods used to produce this layer, with record lines rotated to those as listed in the descriptions. The main boundaries being the MHTL(north/northeast) that appears to be fixed for most of the area (projected to the city boundary on the east/southeast); 3 nautical miles from said MHTL on the south/southwest; and the prolongation of the NWly line of Block 50 of Alamitos Bay Tract.MJF Boundary Determination Officer 12-27-16PRC 4736The “lease area” for this lease is based on the Oil and Gas Lease and Agreement as found on the CSLC insider and recorded August 17, 1973 in BK 10855 PG 432 Official Records, Orange County. The State’s Mineral Interests are confined to Parcels “B-1” and “B-2” and are referred to as “State Mineral Lands” comprising 70.00 Acres. The lessee each has a right to certain uses including but not limited to usage of utility corridors, 110 foot radius parcels surrounding well-sites and roads. The State also has access to those same roads per this agreement/lease. Those uses are allowed in what are termed “State Lands”-Parcel E and “Leased Lands” which are defined as the “South Bolsa Lease Area”-Parcel C (2 parcels) and “North Bolsa Lease Area”-Parcel D.     Description

    The data set for the Devore 7.5' quadrangle was prepared under the U.S. Geological Survey Southern California Areal Mapping Project (SCAMP) as part of an ongoing effort to develop a regional geologic framework of southern California, and to utilize a Geographical Information System (GIS) format to create regional digital geologic databases. These regional databases are being developed as contributions to the National Geologic Map Database of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program of the USGS.

    The digital geologic map database for the Devore 7.5' quadrangle has been created as a general-purpose data set that is applicable to other land-related investigations in the earth and biological sciences. For example, it can be used for groundwater studies in the San Bernardino basin, and for mineral resource evaluation studies, animal and plant habitat studies, and soil studies in the San Bernardino National Forest. The database is not suitable for site-specific geologic evaluations.

    This data set maps and describes the geology of the Devore 7.5' quadrangle, San Bernardino County, California. Created using Environmental Systems Research Institute's ARC/INFO software, the data base consists of the following items: (1) a map coverage containing geologic contacts and units, (2) attribute tables for geologic units (polygons), contacts (arcs), and site-specific data (points). In addition, the data set includes the following graphic and text products: (1) A PostScript graphic plot-file containing the geologic map, topography, cultural data, a Correlation of Map Units (CMU) diagram, a Description of Map Units (DMU), an index map, a regional geologic and structure map, and a key for point and line symbols; (2) PDF files of this Readme (including the metadata file as an appendix), Description of Map Units (DMU), and the graphic produced by the PostScript plot file.

    The Devore quadrangle straddles part of the boundary between two major physiographic provinces of California, the Transverse Ranges Province to the north and the Peninsular Ranges Province to the south. The north half of the quadrangle includes the eastern San Gabriel Mountains and a small part of the western San Bernardino Mountains, both within the east-central part of the Transverse Ranges Province. South of the Cucamonga and San Andreas Fault zones, the extensive alluviated area in the south half of the quadrangle lies within the upper Santa Ana River Valley, and represents the northernmost part of the Peninsular Ranges Province.

    There are numerous active faults within the quadrangle, including right-lateral strike-slip faults of the San Andreas Fault system, which dominate the younger structural elements, and separate the San Gabriel from the San Bernardino Mountains. The active San Jacinto Fault zone projects toward the quadrangle from the southeast, but its location is poorly constrained not only within the quadrangle, but for at least several kilometers to the southeast. As a result, the interrelation between it, the Glen Helen Fault, and the probable easternmost part of the San Gabriel Fault is intrepretive. Thrust faults of the Cucamonga Fault zone along the south margin of the San Gabriel Mountains, represent the rejuvinated eastern end of a major old fault zone that bounds the south side of the western and central Transverse Ranges (Morton and Matti, 1993). Rejuvenation of this old fault zone, including the Cucamonga Fault zone, is apparently in response to compression in the eastern San Gabriel Mountains resulting from initiation of right-lateral slip on the San Jacinto Fault zone in the Peninsular Ranges.The structural grain within the San Gabriel Mountains, as defined by basement rocks, is generally east striking. Within the Devore quadrangle, these basement rocks include a Paleozoic (?) schist, quartzite, and marble metasedimentary sequence, which occurs as discontinuous lenses and septa within Cretaceous granitic rocks. Most of the granitic rocks are of tonalitic composition, and much of them are mylonitic. South of the granitic rocks is a complex assemblage of Proterozoic (?) metamorphic rocks, at least part of which is metasedimentary. The assemblage was metamorphosed to upper amphibolite and lower granulite grade, and subsequently remetamorphosed to a lower metamorphic grade. It is also intensely deformed by mylonitization which is characterized by an east striking, north dipping foliation, and by a pronounced lineation that plunges shallowly east and west.

    East of Lytle Creek and west of the San Andreas Fault zone, the predominant basement lithology is Mesozoic Pelona Schist, which consists mostly of greenschist grade metabasalt and metagraywacke. Intruding the Pelona Schist, between Lytle Creek and Cajon Canyon, is the granodiorite of Telegraph Peak of Oligocene age (May and Walker, 1989). East of the San Andreas Fault in the San Bernardino Mountains, basement rocks consist of amphibolite grade gneiss and schist intermixed with concordant and discordant tonalitic rock and pegmatite. Tertiary conglomerate and sandstone occur in the Cucamonga Fault zone and in a zone 200 to 700 m wide between strands of the San Andreas Fault zone and localized thrust faults northeast of the San Andreas. Most of the conglomerate and sandstone within the Cucamonga Fault zone is overturned forming the north limb of an overturned syncline. Clasts in the conglomerate are not derived from any of the basement rocks in the eastern San Gabriel Mountains. Clasts in the conglomerate and sandstone northeast of the San Andreas Fault zone do not appear to be locally derived either. The south half of the quadrangle is dominated by the large symmetrical alluvial-fan emanating from the canyon of Lytle Creek, and by the complex braided stream sediments of Lytle Creek and Cajon Wash.

    The San Andreas Fault is restricted to a relatively narrow zone marked by a pronounced scarp that is especially well exposed near the east margin of the quadrangle. Two poorly exposed, closely spaced, north-dipping thrust faults northeast of the San Andreas Fault have dips that appear to range from 55? to near horizontal. These hallower dips probably are the result of rotation of initially steeper fault surfaces by downhill surface creep. Between the San Andreas and Glen Helen Fault zones, there are several faults that have north facing scarps, the largest of which are the east striking Peters Fault and the northwest striking Tokay Hill Fault. The Tokay Hill Fault is at least in part a reverse fault. Scarps along both faults are youthful appearing.

    The Glen Helen Fault zone along the west side of Cajon Creek, is well defined by a pronounced scarp from the area north of Interstate 15, south through Glen Helen Regional Park; an elongate sag pond is located within the park.

    The large fault zone along Meyers Canyon, between Penstock and Lower Lytle Ridges, is probably the eastward extension of the San Gabriel Fault zone that is deformed into a northwest orientation due to compression in the eastern San Gabriel Mountains (Morton and Matti, 1993). At the south end of Sycamore Flat, this fault zone consists of three discreet faults distributed over a width of 300 m. About 2.5 km northwest of Sycamore Flats, it consists of a 300 m wide shear zone. At the north end of Penstock Ridge, the fault zone has bifurcated into four strands, which at the northwest corner of the quadrangle are distributed over a width of about one kilometer. From the northern part of Sycamore Flat, for a distance of nearly 5 km northwestward, a northeast dipping reverse fault is located along the east side of the probable San Gabriel Fault zone. This youthful reverse fault has locally placed the Oligocene granodiorite of Telegraph Peak over detritus derived from the granodiorite.

    The Lytle Creek Fault, which is commonly considered the western splay of the San Jacinto Fault zone, is located on the west side of Lytle Creek. Lateral displacement on the Lytle Creek Fault has offset parts of the old Lytle Creek channel; this offset gravel-filled channel is best seen at Texas Hill, near the mouth of Lytle Creek, where the gravel was hydraulic mined for gold in the 1890s.

    The Cucamonga Fault zone consists of a one kilometer wide zone of northward dip-ping thrust faults. Most splays of this fault zone dip north 25 to 35.

    The geologic map database contains original U.S. Geological Survey data generated by detailed field observation and by interpretation of aerial photographs. This digital Open-File map supercedes an older analog Open-File map of the quadrangle, and includes extensive new data on the Quaternary deposits, and revises some fault and bedrock distribution within the San Gabriel Mountains. The digital map was compiled on a base-stable cronoflex copy of the Devore 7.5 deg. topographic base and then scribed. This scribe guide was used to make a 0.007 mil blackline clear-film, from which lines and point were hand digitized. Lines, points, and polygons were subsequently edited at the USGS using standard ARC/INFO commands. Digitizing and editing artifacts significant enough to display at a scale of 1:24,000 were corrected. Within the database, geologic contacts are represented as lines (arcs), geologic units as polygons, and site-specific data as points. Polygon, arc, and point attribute tables (.pat, .aat, and .pat, respectively) uniquely identify each geologic datum.

    In 2012, the CPUC ordered the development of a statewide map that is designed specifically for the purpose of identifying areas where there is an increased risk for utility associated wildfires. The development of the CPUC -sponsored fire-threat map, herein "CPUC Fire-Threat Map," started in R.08-11-005 and continued in R.15-05-006.

    A multistep process was used to develop the statewide CPUC Fire-Threat Map. The first step was to develop Fire Map 1 (FM 1), an agnostic map which depicts areas of California where there is an elevated hazard for the ignition and rapid spread of powerline fires due to strong winds, abundant dry vegetation, and other environmental conditions. These are the environmental conditions associated with the catastrophic powerline fires that burned 334 square miles of Southern California in October 2007. FM 1 was developed by CAL FIRE and adopted by the CPUC in Decision 16-05-036.

    FM 1 served as the foundation for the development of the final CPUC Fire-Threat Map. The CPUC Fire-Threat Map delineates, in part, the boundaries of a new High Fire-Threat District (HFTD) where utility infrastructure and operations will be subject to stricter fire‑safety regulations. Importantly, the CPUC Fire-Threat Map (1) incorporates the fire hazards associated with historical powerline wildfires besides the October 2007 fires in Southern California (e.g., the Butte Fire that burned 71,000 acres in Amador and Calaveras Counties in September 2015), and (2) ranks fire-threat areas based on the risks that utility-associated wildfires pose to people and property.

    Primary responsibility for the development of the CPUC Fire-Threat Map was delegated to a group of utility mapping experts known as the Peer Development Panel (PDP), with oversight from a team of independent experts known as the Independent Review Team (IRT). The members of the IRT were selected by CAL FIRE and CAL FIRE served as the Chair of the IRT. The development of CPUC Fire-Threat Map includes input from many stakeholders, including investor-owned and publicly owned electric utilities, communications infrastructure providers, public interest groups, and local public safety agencies.

    The PDP served a draft statewide CPUC Fire-Threat Map on July 31, 2017, which was subsequently reviewed by the IRT. On October 2 and October 5, 2017, the PDP filed an Initial CPUC Fire-Threat Map that reflected the results of the IRT's review through September 25, 2017. The final IRT-approved CPUC Fire-Threat Map was filed on November 17, 2017. On November 21, 2017, SED filed on behalf of the IRT a summary report detailing the production of the CPUC Fire-Threat Map(referenced at the time as Fire Map 2). Interested parties were provided opportunity to submit alternate maps, written comments on the IRT-approved map and alternate maps (if any), and motions for Evidentiary Hearings. No motions for Evidentiary Hearings or alternate map proposals were received. As such, on January 19, 2018 the CPUC adopted, via Safety and Enforcement Division's (SED) disposition of a Tier 1 Advice Letter, the final CPUC Fire-Threat Map.

    Description

    This data set maps and describes the geology of the San Bernardino Wash 7.5 minute quadrangle, Riverside County, southern California. The quadrangle, situated in Joshua Tree National Park in the eastern Transverse Ranges physiographic and structural province, encompasses parts of the northwestern Eagle Mountains, east-central Pinto Basin, and eastern Pinto Mountains. The quadrangle is underlain by a basement terrane comprising metamorphosed Proterozoic strata, Mesozoic plutonic rocks, and Jurassic and Mesozoic and (or) Cenozoic hypabyssal dikes. The basement terrane is capped by a widespread Tertiary erosion surface preserved in remnants in the Pinto and Eagle Mountains and buried beneath Cenozoic deposits in Pinto Basin. Locally, a cover of Miocene sedimentary deposits and basalt overlie the erosion surface. A sequence of at least three Quaternary pediments is planed into the north piedmont of the Eagle Mountains, each in turn overlain by successively younger residual and alluvial, surficial deposits. The Tertiary erosion surface is deformed and broken by north-northwest-trending, high-angle, dip-slip faults in the Pinto and Eagle Mountains and an east-west trending system of high-angle dip- and left-slip faults along the range fronts facing Pinto Basin. In and around the San Bernardino Wash quadrangle, faults of the north-northwest-trending set displace Miocene sedimentary rocks and basalt deposited on the Tertiary erosion surface and some of the faults may offset Pliocene and (or) Pleistocene deposits that accumulated on the oldest pediment. Faults of this system appear to be overlain by Pleistocene deposits that accumulated on younger pediments. East-west trending faults are younger than and perhaps in part coeval with faults of the northwest-trending set. The San Bernardino Wash database was created using ARCVIEW and ARC/INFO, which are geographical information system (GIS) software products of Envronmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). The database comprises five coverages: (1) a geologic layer showing the distribution of geologic contacts and units; (2) a structural layer showing the distribution of faults (arcs) and fault ornamentation data (points); (3) a layer showing the distribution of dikes (arcs); a structural point data layer showing (4) bedding and metamorphic foliation attitudes, and (5) cartographic map elements, including unit label leaders and geologic unit annotation. The dataset also includes a scanned topographic base at a scale of 1:24,000. Within the database coverages, geologic contacts , faults, and dikes are represented as lines (arcs and routes), geologic units as areas (polygons and regions), and site-specific data as points. Polygon, region, arc, route, and point attribute tables uniquely identify each geologic datum and link it to descriptive tables that provide more detailed geologic information. The digital database is accompanied by two derivative maps: (1) A portable document file (.pdf) containing a navigable graphic of the geologic map on a 1:24,000 topographic base and (2) a PostScript graphic-file containing the geologic map on a 1:24,000 topographic base. Each of these map products is accompanied by a marginal explanation consisting of a Description of Map Units (DMU), a Correlation of Map Units (CMU), and a key to point and line symbols. The database is further accompanied by three document files: (1) a readme that lists the contents of the database and describes how to access it, (2) a pamphlet file that describes the geology of the quadrangle and (3) this metadata file.
