    Description

The USGS National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) service from The National Map (TNM) is a comprehensive set of digital spatial data that encodes information about naturally occurring and constructed bodies of surface water (lakes, ponds, and reservoirs), paths through which water flows (canals, ditches, streams, and rivers), and related entities such as point features (springs, wells, stream gages, and dams). The information encoded about these features includes classification and other characteristics, delineation, geographic name, position and related measures, a "reach code" through which other information can be related to the NHD, and the direction of water flow. The network of reach codes delineating water and transported material flow allows users to trace movement in upstream and downstream directions. In addition to this geographic information, the dataset contains metadata that supports the exchange of future updates and improvements to the data. The NHD is available nationwide in two seamless datasets, one based on 1:24,000-scale maps and referred to as high resolution NHD, and the other based on 1:100,000-scale maps and referred to as medium resolution NHD. Additional selected areas in the United States are available based on larger scales, such as 1:5,000-scale or greater, and referred to as local resolution NHD. The NHD from The National Map supports many applications, such as making maps, geocoding observations, flow modeling, data maintenance, and stewardship. For additional information on the NHD, go to http://nhd.usgs.gov/index.html. The Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) is a companion dataset to the NHD. It defines the perimeter of drainage areas formed by the terrain and other landscape characteristics. The drainage areas are nested within each other so that a large drainage area, such as the Upper Mississippi River, will be composed of multiple smaller drainage areas, such as the Wisconsin River. Each of these smaller areas can further be subdivided into smaller and smaller drainage areas. The WBD uses six different levels in this hierarchy, with the smallest averaging about 30,000 acres. The WBD is made up of polygons nested into six levels of data respectively defined by Regions, Subregions, Basins, Subbasins, Watersheds, and Subwatersheds. For additional information on the WBD, go to http://nhd.usgs.gov/wbd.html. The National Map hydrography data is commonly combined with other data themes, such as boundaries, elevation, structures, and transportation, to produce general reference base maps. The National Map viewer allows free downloads of public domain NHD and WBD data in either Esri File or Personal Geodatabase, or Shapefile formats.

Burn severity layers are thematic images depicting severity as unburned to low, low, moderate, high, and increased greenness (increased post-fire vegetation response). The layer may also have a sixth class representing a mask for clouds, shadows, large water bodies, or other features on the landscape that erroneously affect the severity classification. This data has been prepared as part of the Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity (MTBS) project. Due to the lack of comprehensive fire reporting information and quality Landsat imagery, burn severity for all targeted MTBS fires are not available. Additionally, the availability of burn severity data for fires occurring in the current and previous calendar year is variable since these data are currently in production and released on an intermittent basis by the MTBS project. This view service provides spatial data relating to Scottish wetlands. This data set has been developed by assimilating spatial data from Scottish Natural Heritage. The whole country has not yet been surveyed and as a result the data set only displays known wetlands. The wetland inventory database comprises a number of fields that include the main WFD95 wetland type, the original habitat survey information and whether the wetland polygon is within a statutory designated site. The wetland typology (WFD95) is used as the main identifying field for each polygon in the inventory database. Generated from data supplied to SEPA by Scottish Natural Heritage. It is important to note that if there are no wetlands identified on the inventory this does not mean that there are no wetlands in that area. The inventory has been completed using available digital data for wetlands that have been surveyed. It is very likely that there are wetlands in Scotland that have not been surveyed or where the survey data is currently not available in a digital format suitable for GIS.

    Description

The USGS Transportation service from The National Map (TNM) is based on TIGER/Line data provided through U.S. Census Bureau and road data from U.S. Forest Service. Some of the TIGER/Line data includes limited corrections done by USGS. Transportation data consists of roads, railroads, trails, airports, and other features associated with the transport of people or commerce. The data include the name or route designator, classification, and location. Transportation data support general mapping and geographic information system technology analysis for applications such as traffic safety, congestion mitigation, disaster planning, and emergency response. The National Map transportation data is commonly combined with other data themes, such as boundaries, elevation, hydrography, and structures, to produce general reference base maps. The National Map Download Client allows free downloads of public domain transportation data in either Esri File Geodatabase or Shapefile formats. For additional information on the transportation data model, go to https://nationalmap.gov/transport.html.

    Description

This feature layer is designed for the purpose of assignment of waterway names (where named) to all segments within the River Environment Classification version two (REC2). This layer can also be joined to the main REC2 feature class layer via the unique joining variable called "nzsegment".The River Environment Classification (REC) is a database of catchment spatial attributes, summarised for every segment in New Zealand's network of rivers. The attributes were compiled for the purposes of river classification. Examples where the REC can be used include, catchment rainfall calculations, catchment river flows, flood forecasting, land use and catchment associations.Creationthe REC was originally created using a hydrological networking tools and a digital elevation model. In preparing The New Zealand Rivers and Names, all reasonable skill and care was exercised and the best available data and methods were used. Nevertheless, NIWA does not accept any liability, whether direct, indirect or consequential, arising out the use of this tool and its associated data and statistical information._Item Page Created: 2021-10-05 03:31 Item Page Last Modified: 2025-04-05 16:10Owner: NIWA_OpenData
